墨子（生卒年不詳，名翟（dí），東周春秋末期戰國初期宋國人，壹說魯陽人，壹說滕國人。墨子是宋國貴族目夷的後代，生前擔任宋國大夫。他是墨家學派的創始人，也是戰國時期著名的思想家、教育家、科學家、軍事家。
墨子是中國歷史上唯壹壹個農民出身的哲學家，墨子創立了墨家學說，墨家在先秦時期影響很大，與儒家並稱“顯學”。他提出了“兼愛”、“非攻”、“尚賢”、“尚同”、“天誌”、“明鬼”、“非命”、“非樂”、“節葬”、“節用”等觀點。以兼愛為核心，以節用、尚賢為支點。墨子在戰國時期創立了以幾何學、物理學、光學為突出成就的壹整套科學理論。在當時的百家爭鳴，有“非儒即墨”之稱。墨子死後，墨家分為相裏氏之墨、相夫氏之墨、鄧陵氏之墨三個學派。其弟子根據墨子生平事跡的史料，收集其語錄，完成了《墨子》壹書傳世。
