《死亡岛》将是一款第一人称视角的动作游戏，只不过玩家手里没有枪，只能依靠手边的一些简单道具（大部分时候是生活用品）来保护自己并生存下去。所以，不会有机关枪或是火箭筒，游戏试图让玩家体验更逼真的生存挑战，并感受其中的艰辛和苦痛。当然也少不了，恐惧。开发者希望以更加逼真的角度来表现生存恐怖这一主题，玩家可以拿起武器与丧尸搏斗，但不会像在《丧尸围城》里那么简单爽快。
