About A Legacy of Strength
This app is the companion app to "The Legacy of Strength" display that is a permanent fixture at UGA's Foley Field. This app and display honors UGA alumni Johnathan Taylor and Chance Veazey. This app will overlay the physical display with a virtual experience through the use of smart phones and tablets.
Johnathan Taylor and Chance Veazey are Georgia alumni who epitomize a “Legacy of Strength” and zest for life. Both of their baseball careers were cut short by life-altering accidents, and their ability to persevere serves an inspiration to all those who know them and their stories.
Chance earned the starting second baseman’s job as a Bulldog freshman in the fall of 2009. Later that semester following a study session, he left the Miller Learning Center on his scooter, and an accident happened at the intersection of South Lumpkin and Baxter Street. For Taylor, his incident came during a game at Foley Field his junior year in March of 2011. A three-year starter, he collided with a teammate in the outfield as both attempted to make a catch of a sinking line drive.
The injuries to Chance and Johnathan have left them in a wheelchair, and while their bodies were damaged, their heart and soul remain as strong as ever. They each navigated the road to recovery including returning to the dugout to be with their teammates and earning their Georgia degree. They have gone on to have successful careers and continue to support the Bulldogs. Georgia now honors their legacy at Foley Field.
