About Albany WA

Albany WA is a Travel & Tour guide for visitors that drive from Perth to Albany in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. The App provides GPS directions to numerous attractions in Albany and the many fascinating country towns and landmarks along the way. The app includes less travelled GPS routes through vast farming tracts of the Great Southern that lead to picturesque country towns, such as Narrrogin,Wagin and Katanning, Kojunup, Cranbrook to Bremer Bay on the coast. The Visitor Centres enroute are shown with GPS locations and contact information.

Visitors to Albany and the southern coast should not miss the Whale Watching season. This amazing spectacle of whales breaching the ocean occurs from the end of May to early October. Look out for whales from the shoreline - or get much closer for guaranteed sightings and photo opportunities onboard a whale-tour boat.

Closeby the City of Albany (52 kms) is Mount Barker - the administrative centre for the Shire of Plantagenet. The area is well known for its agriculture and farming, outstanding wineries, and scented sandalwood. A short drive from Mount Barker (1 hour) are excellent hiking trails in the Stirling Ranges including Bluff Knoll the highest peak in Southern W.A. The Porongurup National Park with its quaint village style townsite is on the doorstep of Mount Barker - with boutique wineries and an excellent hiking trail to Castle Rock (570m) with its world class viewing platform. Walkers are well rewarded with panoramic views to the coast.

Regional highlights include maps and information for travel to the Stirling Range and the Porongurups National Park (a Bluff Knoll Mountain weather forecast, mountain trail maps and Parks information is provided to assist walkers).There is a WA Police Bush Survival guide for those who wish to learn more of the risks and safety precautions to be taken when walking trails in W.A (Please note: the manuals are not a substitute for preparation, training and experience).

The idyllic coastal town of Denmark, with its pristine beaches and forests is just a short drive from Mount Barker or Albany. Walpole and the famous Valley of the Giants Treetop Walk is 40 minutes from Denmark.

The Albany WA app includes the GPS locations of many Historic Buildings with directions to well preserved Heritage sites. The Albany Convict Gaol and Patrick Taylor Cottage (the State's oldest surviving dwelling) are well worth a visit. The App contains ANZAC  (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) brochures to help visitors explore Albany's former military significance and strategic role during the First World War (a visit to the National ANZAC centre is highly recommended). Detailed ANZAC information includes an ANZAC Tour Guide with GPS locations to all ANZAC related landmarks.
