Women's self-defence is about self-confidence, awareness of surroundings, and simply being sensible - as well as defence. Maria's a first degree black sash in Lau Gar Kung Fu and has been teaching Women’s Self-Defence for two years. Her day job is a Unix software engineer; anyone can learn and master these techniques, without being a trained professional. You certainly don't need to become a black sash, black belt or anything remotely like that to be able to defend yourself highly effectively against someone physically much bigger than you. The techniques used here are mostly taken from the 'sets' of Lau Gar Kung Fu and uniquely adapted to suit any woman or girl wishing to defend herself.
