About Routine Plus

The main differences between this app and other routine or to-do list apps are twofold:

1. You can set a "next best" option.

When we plan, we often envision our ideal selves and decide what to do based on that image. However, there are times when external circumstances or simply not feeling up to it prevent us from following through. Once we deviate from our plan, it can be hard to find the motivation to try again, especially due to the discomfort of having already "blemished" our future. But by setting a "next best" option to account for unforeseen situations, it becomes much easier to maintain consistency and return to the ideal self we aspire to be. The "next best" option should be something very easy to accomplish. For example, if the "best" option is to write in a journal, but you find it difficult to write a full entry, you could set a "next best" option like "write just one sentence in the journal." This is much easier to accomplish, and because you don't feel like you've left a mark on your future, you can maintain the motivation to continue the next day.

2. It provides an opportunity to recognize how our limitations affect us.

The choices we make—whether to do something we want or avoid something we don't—are always made within the constraints of four key resources: "mental energy," "physical energy," "financial resources," and "time." While the specifics may vary from person to person, no one is entirely free from these constraints. We are not only influenced by these resources; our actions also impact them. This app allows you to choose which resources will be affected when you set a task.
