1.6.15 2019-05-02
Bear 1.6.14 is a small update with one big new under-the-hood feature: a revamped mobilizer for collecting web pages. Learn more about our updates and get a big bear hug of tips on our blog: https://blog.bear.app

If you enjoy using Bear, please leave a review! They really help. We’d also love to hear your thoughts and questions directly at bear@shinyfrog.net, on Twitter @BearNotesApp, on Reddit.com/r/BearApp, and Facebook/BearNotesApp

** Better saving of web articles**

Bear has grown smarter and faster when using our app extensions to collect articles from the web. Grabbing an article should be more accurate and more reliable on a wider range of web pages.

Parsing the web is a big task, though, and our new parser might still have trouble with some pages. If it does, please report these errors to us at bear.app/contact/ to help us continually improve this tool.

For those interested in the details: we previously used a tool called Mercury Parser to collect articles from the web. That tool shut down but open sourced their code. We used that as the base to create our own parser, then made a variety of changes and improvements.

---

Welcome to Bear 1.6: The Siri & Navigation Edition! We packed some great stuff in this release, including 14 new iMessage stickers!
Learn more at: blog.bear.app

**Siri Shortcuts and Search**

- Create new notes on iOS with Siri and the beautiful sound of your voice
- Use Siri any time to search your notes, without opening Bear
- Go to Settings > Siri & Search > All Shortcuts to create your own custom Siri commands for Bear (and many other apps!)
- Two new Special Search triggers: use @date and @cdate in the search box to search by modification date and creation date, respectively

**Enhanced Header Linking Super Technology**

Tap or click on any H1-H6 header for a way to link to that specific note’s section from other notes. This is great for working across multiple long notes, creating a personal wiki, and so much more!

**Sync transparency for Bear Pro**

It’s 2018, but sync can still be hard. For Bear Pro users with sync, we’re making Bear more transparent about when it last synced and if there is anything causing trouble.

Bear will try to be clearer about what’s going on if there’s an error, whether it’s a Bear Pro registration problem, iCloud is out of space or not set up properly, a poor internet connection, or a good ol’ fashioned error.

Finally, if Bear ever runs into a sync conflict, it will now display affected notes in a “Conflicted” section in the Sidebar.

**Lots of Other Goodies**

- Bear now saves your scroll and cursor position when switching notes
- Dark Mode support
- One new free theme for all users: Dark Graphite
- One new theme for Bear Pro customers: Duotone Heat, Inspired by Base2Tone Heath Light by Bram de Haan
- 16 new TagCons! Including world, prize, doctor, and various religions
- 14 new iMessage stickers from our amazing designer, Vic Bell, a.k.a. @vic_bell on Twitter

Let us know what you think of Bear 1.6 or how your latest writing project is going!

* (Mac) We finally—FINALLY—fixed the rare but annoying “Window Buttons Collide With the Search Box” bug (shout out to @MoltenMuffins on Twitter for helping us get to the bottom of it!)
* Fixed some instances where sketch actions could not be undone and, in some cases, caused a crash
* A 3D Touch on Bear’s icon on iPhone now properly opens the app directly to a search
* Fixed some autocomplete UI bugs
* Added an Internet Access Policy on Mac to explain why Bear checks for links in your clipboard (we do not collect that information, it’s to anonymously grab the title of the link in case you paste it into a note). For more information, visit: https://obdev.at/iap/index.html
* Congratulations, you unlocked header links working properly on iOS once again! Er, _cough_ we fixed them
* Improved copy and paste to and from Google Docs
* A few other crashes fixed

# Bear 1.5.2: The Sidebar Edition
Welcome to Bear 1.5.2 for iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch! Visit our Notes & Prose blog for more information, tips, occasional GIFs, and news:
blog.bear-writer.com

** Set Your Own TagCons ** One of our largest requests ever! You can now set your own TagCons for all tags! Don’t like one of our defaults? Change it! Pick from our library of 169 TagCons (80 of them brand new in 1.5!). Yes, we’ll add more soon. :)

Also: When you select a tag on iPhone and iPad, Bear now displays its TagCon (if assigned) in the Notes List header to remind you of the current tag you’re viewing.

** Hide Notes You Don’t Need ** This was another big request. Deleting old notes is sometimes too... delete-ish. But it also feels... analog-y to print them out. Now you can archive them! Archived notes disappear from the Notes List, but are still searchable in the Sidebar’s new Archive section.

** Find Notes You DO Need ** Find notes faster with new Sidebar sections like Untagged, ToDo, Today, and Archive.

** Export All Notes in a Tag ** You can now export all notes from a specific tag. If you have sub-tags, they’ll become subfolders.

** Publish That Novel ** Alongside exporting all notes in a tag, free and Bear Pro users can now export notes into EPUB format—perfect for publishing your next great novel. Just remember us little people when you embark on that international book tour.

** Pull to Do Stuff ** On iPhone and iPad, you can now pull down to search notes and close preferences. We like this gesture, so we’re tinkering with more ways to use it.

** One and a Half New Themes for Bear Pro users ** By popular request, our iPhone-X-optimized theme, Dieci, is now available on the Mac (tip: Dieci is Italian for ‘ten!’). We also have a beautiful new theme for all devices, Ayu, based on the same theme created by Ike Ku.

Note that these, and many other themes, are part of Bear Pro. Learn more about Bear Pro at: bear-writer.com/faq

** Pretty Colors for More Code Languages ** We added new syntax coloring support for AppleScript, YAML, Diff, Fountain, Dart, and Clojure.

** Mac Only: Note Windows Can Float Down Here ** Mac users can toggle individual note windows to float on top of all others. (Tip: Double-click a note in the Notes List to open it in a dedicated, floating window!)

**Introducing Autocomplete for Tags, Notes, and Code!**

We are _delighted_ to release Autocomplete, but we didn’t stop at #tags—it’s for notes and code, too!

* Start typing a #tag, and Bear will suggest existing tag names.
* Many popular tags now have icons in the Bear Sidebar so they are more identifiable!
* Link other notes or build a wiki by typing double brackets: [[ and then the name of a note. Bear will suggest notes for you to instantly link.
* Start a code block, and Bear now autocompletes commands from over 20 programming languages.

**A couple final goodies in Bear 1.4**

* Effortlessly swipe left and right on the Editor to hide and show the Sidebar and Note List.
* Two new themes for Bear Pro customers: DuoTone Light and Snow.
* Printing notes from Bear now uses a darker text color for easier reading.
* A standard round of bug extermination to help Bear purr even better for you.

- Highlighting: Give important parts of your notes that that special neon glow they deserve
- Quick Time/Date Formatting: We added new shortcuts for inserting the current date/hours in various formats, such as “4 Jul 2017, 10:21” and “4 Jul 2017” and “04/07/2017, 10:21”
- More Special Searches: Find all notes modified on the current day and the day before with new search modifiers: @today and @yesterday
- Remove a Tag From a Note: Sometimes you just need to part ways with a tag, though hopefully it’s amicable and you can remain friends on Facebook. Select the tag in the sidebar, then: Right-click the note and choose “Remove tag (X)”
- Innovative New ‘Open Notes in Their Own Windows’ Technology: Bear continues to blaze UI trails by allowing you to open notes in their own windows. Just double-click ‘em
