Blink 18.7.0
Three of Blink's core systems — the session engine, the layout manager and the appearance system — were rebuilt from the ground up. Everything should feel faster and far more predictable, and it lays the groundwork for what's coming next.
BEFORE YOU UPDATE
- Your running sessions will not be restored, for the first time in ten years— the session format changed. Please terminate any mosh-server processes on your remotes before updating, or you will leave them orphaned.
NEW
- Post-quantum SSH. Updated to LibSSH 0.12 and OpenSSL 3.0, adding support for
post-quantum key exchange. SetEnv is now supported in SSH config and on the
command line.
- Fonts and themes. A new Appearance section: import fonts and themes from your device or straight from a URL, pick any monospaced font installed on your system, and assign an alternative theme that kicks in automatically in dark mode — or flip it live with the switchTheme shortcut.
- A new Display section to separate features that pertain to layout.
- A new session engine. Your workspace is now owned by a single engine that decides when sessions suspend, restore and stop. Day to day you may not notice a thing, and that is the point.
- Smarter layouts. Cover, Fit and Fill were rebuilt with better math for every screen. Cover now properly covers the bottom of the terminal, Fit always respects the Status Bar, and the layout locks in place instead of being pulled around by the keyboard.
- Pragmata updated to 903 with better symbols.

AFTER YOU UPDATE
Check your connections. We have been testing for months, but moving to LibSSH 0.12 and OpenSSL 3.0 touches every connection Blink makes. We will be prioritizing any Issues related to connections.
mosh1, ssh2 and x-callback-url have been removed. The first two depended on
libssh2 — use mosh and ssh instead. A new Commands system is on the way to
replace x-callback-url; if that breaks a workflow you depend on, please get in
touch.
External displays. On A-series devices, projecting a terminal to an external
display is now opt-in: turn it on in Settings > External Display. Apple Silicon
devices drive external displays natively and no longer can use projection.

New Prompt Mode & Snips Enhancements (1077, 2212)
- We have a new Prompt Mode for composing AI prompts, with voice input, text controls with enhanced editing capabilities and auto-submit once you are done. You can start it from the Snip's Scratch mode and select Prompt.
- You can now also start Snips or Scratch mode from the Smart Keys bar or with keyboard shortcuts.
- The Pin feature on Snips persists the interface after sending. So you can work on the next command, resend again, etc...
- Passthrough mode during editing: you can now scroll while editing Snips or creating your prompt.
Mouse Drag (395). We implemented mouse drag trying to replicate the "mode" you usually have with the keyboard, so you can have more precise cursor positioning, for both touch and the trackpad.
- Trackpad: Cmd+click to start drag mode, move cursor while holding Cmd, release to stop.
- Touch: Long press to start drag mode and place the cursor, then start a drag to move cursor and release to stop.
- Remember you can use the keyboard while you drag.

Happy New Year!
This is a set of fixes for iOS26 issues and small improvements in the app:
- The Host password field now has a toggle to visualize the stored password. (Issue #2191)
- SCP/SFTP command now process the source and will exit with an error if there are no files matching. (Issue #2095)
- SCP/SFTP command now has autocompletion. (Issue #2192).
- Blinking cursor on bottom of the screen (Issue #2152). The cursor will only appear when using IME mode or tapping the screen / starting a selection. The cursor should disappear immediately afterwards.
- Shell Blank on return from background and other cases (Issue #2177). Not just that but the shells should be more responsive on switch, etc...
- Space between keyboard and terminal (Issue #2181). redraws are now improved as a result of the previous issue.
- Cmd key would get stuck after calling settings with "Cmd-,". This was a regression on 18.4. (Issue #2193)

When calling SSH URLs, Blink will use the URL given by the system. The URL percentage encoded components at the Host or User may contain special control characters. Although those characters may not be allowed on host or user, the decoded characters can make it down to the shell. Blink will warn the user before executing links, but a malicious link may hide this behavior within markdown or even a QR code.
This fixes the issue by rejecting sequences containing control characters before sending them to the terminal. Additionally, we are supporting proper SSH URI forms to connect additional parameters later on.

- **Replacing link-files**: Bookmarks streamline workflows by replacing the old `link-files` command with a simpler and more reliable approach.
- **Easy to set up**: Add bookmarks via **Settings > Bookmarks**, select a location in Files.app, and give the symlink a name. Navigate to your bookmarks directly from the shell.
### **General Improvements and Fixes**
- **Custom key support**: Added support for `Function keys`, `Home`, `End`, `PgUp`, and `PgDown`, along with combinations like `Alt-Home` and `Alt-End` to better match your workflows. Thanks to namatoj and Karl.

Don't let the new features fool you. This update is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, where a lot of work happened behind the scenes. We left this release in the oven for a while to squash even the weirdest bugs and misbehaviors. Going Back to the Basics, the next releases will be focused on Shell functionality. Let's get started:
- Agent keys to Forward: You can now configure what keys you want to forward automatically when connected to a specific Host. There is no standard way to provide this through .ssh/config yet, so we added it as part of our Host Configuration. #1779 & #1293
- Agent Forward Prompt per Host: Forwarding keys automatically can be dangerous. Blink can now ask for user confirmation before sending a key to a remote. And because our agent works at the Host level, you will always know "what" key is being requested, and "who" is requesting it. #1779 & #1293
- ssh-add with Confirmation: If you add a key through the manual ssh-add, you still have access to the confirmation prompt by adding the new -c flag.

- Introducing the Blink+Build plan, the most complete dev toolbox on iOS with Shell, Build and Code. To make it even better, we are offering a 1-week free trial, and $9.99/month after that.
- We are phasing out our Free version in favor of the new Blink+Build trial. We learnt the hard way that the metered paywall was perceived as an obstacle to the overall experience. We believe the new Blink+Build plan is a more honest offering, allowing everyone to try all you can do in Blink, and after the trial by providing all the value we can as a paid user.
- If you’re currently using the Free plan and want to keep using Blink every day, we wanted to do something special. We are doing our first ever Blink+ promo for just $14.99 the first year, $19.99 thereafter. If not, you still can use the Free plan until March 31st to decide, with no metered paywalls.
- Please note we still continue to offer our Community and Open Source versions for those who want to contribute in a different way.
Other updates include:
- Found root cause for Files.app blocking in some cases at the root container or after a few downloads. Kudos to @rrgeorge for the extra help.
- Fixes for our Files.app extension, that could provoke hangs in the connection when keeping its state alive longer than the extension itself.
- Fixed bug on right click contextual menus in the terminal (Issue #1593). And we made the menu cooler too, so you can control parts of the terminal from it instead of doing three finger taps.
- Multiple fixes from TestFlight reports. Thanks to our Community testers!

This release is about one single thing. Our Blink Code implementation should now be at full speed. There are no restrictions on Code Server instances or on the plugins you are able to install, as we just got our browser entitlement!! Here is what you should notice:
- You should be able to access your own Code Server instances directly, without starting a tunnel, just doing code URL.
- We should now support GitPod, Code-Server, Azure Code and any others without restrictions as well. Please let us know if you find any issues with a specific service or implementation.
- Plug-ins that before were causing “Worker Service” issues or “App-bound domain” restriction errors should now work perfectly.
