Big news: Introducing Brave Today, a completely private feed of the top stories from leading publishers. Updated throughout the day.
Also in this release we are changing how Brave Rewards works on iOS. To comply with Apple’s guidelines 3.1.1 and 3.2.2 this release will:
- Remove Tipping
- Change how Rewards works for iOS.
Existing Rewards users who have accumulated BAT can withdraw their BAT using the QR code functionality on the Desktop version of Brave. Please upgrade to the latest version of Brave on Desktop and iOS (1.22) to enable this functionality.
Going forward, Brave Rewards users will no longer be rewarded for viewing (opt-in) Brave Ads. Instead Brave will contribute to the verified (websites) publishers as you browse the web. Please check out our Blog for more info around these changes.
Finally, you can now make Brave your default web browser. To do this:
- Launch the iOS Settings app,

Hello all you wonderful people, here’s a little update with some little fixes and a big Shields feature.
Here’s what we updated:
- Cookie Control is back! You can now block all cookies. This was one of the things we had to basically rebuild from scratch when we switched browser engines to WKWebView back in December. So it’s all very new and shiny and modern and new we would appreciate it if you didn’t scratch the paintwork.
- Bookmarks are easier to use.
- Everyone hates it when Brave crashes, so we made that happen less. It’s more complicated than it sounds.
- iPads are supposed to look big and beautiful, but we weren’t looking as beautiful as we wanted. A little UI self-care and we’re pretty as ever.
- Our translations needed a whole lot of love. Now they only need a lot of love. We’re trying, we promise!

Happy Holidays everyone! Just a small update to fix some bugs with v1.7 release. Thanks very much to everyone who reported these!
Here’s what we updated:
- The New Tab/New Private Tab buttons were missing the long press context menu, so we added that to this release.
- We were blocking links in Bing search results. We’ve fixed that now.
- After upgrading to v1.7, some people saw that their private tabs had opened. We have fixed this bug and will make sure this won’t happen again.

This is a really big release for us. We’ve changed out a bunch of stuff under the hood and rebuilt a lot of other stuff from scratch. Hopefully the only thing you’ll notice is that everything’s smoother and more reliable.
Highlights:
- We’ve changed out the browser engine for WKWebView — that’s the part of the browser which fetches and renders sites. That’s a pretty important, piece, so this is a big upgrade for us.
- We now support even more of the new stuff in iOS 12. We’re really excited about Password AutoFill. If you’re not using a password-manager, there’s never been a better time to start. Seriously, use a password manager. You can enable AutoFill in the Settings app > Passwords & Accounts > AutoFill Passwords.
This new version of Brave works on devices running iOS 12 and beyond. If you’re still on iOS 11 please upgrade. It doesn’t take long, and it makes a big difference.

This one’s just a small update with a couple of tweaks for some popular sites, and newer devices. We also have a handful of under-the-hood changes which should make things generally faster, smoother, and more reliable.
Highlights:
- We’ve been tracking down a crash bug on YouTube and think we might finally have this one taken care of. Fingers crossed.
- iOS looks quite different on new iPhones. We needed to catch up. This release has a bunch of little tweaks to how things look on the iPhone XS and XR.
