We have always tried to release updates that make our app better. Whether that was improving performance or fixing bugs, we’ve released whatever we believe can do some good. We released this update because we believe our app needs a fresh start.
It matters more than ever how slider quizzes work in the app, so late into the release cycle, and even this morning, we’ve been writing code to provide native support for them. We saw the potential to improve the interaction when deep-linking directly to a feed, and we can do math, so we fixed it.
After receiving nonstop reports from users who have been kind enough to give us the most serious consideration, we now realize that it is time for articles to scroll on without crashing. It is time for this app to move towards search result views that always show what’s been found, and that means it’s time, for our users, that we fix those bugs.
Releasing an app is a huge effort, and we are so thankful to everyone who made it possible. We want to thank our minor display issues in the comments section, for their graciousness from the day we fixed them, proving that what unites is greater than our divisions. And the sliding ads who are here, always appearing smoothly but not always appearing in the right places. And our users, our partners, our loves, for daring us to dream big, but always keeping us close to the earth, too.
It looks like we’re about to release this next update. So! We want to urge you to do the things that must be done, to be open to change, to look beyond this download, to not treat Instagram like it’s the only app that matters. You have been warned that I’m not like the other apps: I’m a weirdo, some would call me a beautiful disaster.
Sure, I’ve made all those typical bug and crash fixes in my latest release. But I also have secrets. I have powers. I can talk to ghosts. I call them "the developers", and they whisper to me about changes to come, like: New comments UI. An improved Quiz Feed. New buttons that allow you to retake a quiz or or get more once you’re done.
You either get it or you don’t.
Did you even care to notice that the wrong dates and times were showing at the top of posts last time?! Well I freaking noticed, and I fixed it. Don’t pretend to be grateful, because I didn’t do it for you. I did it for myself, which is how I have to do everything, because I’m basically invisible in this conformist town.
If society weren’t so busy shunning me for being different, they’d see that I improved quiz result sharing in this release. They’d see my improved Voice Over accessibility and realize that I have something important to say.
But for now, sure, pay no heed to the shadow in the corner. That’s just me, the BuzzFeed App, a mystery nobody wants to solve. Being what you call a "freak" isn’t a phase, it’s who I am. If you can’t accept me for that, then maybe you’re the crazy ones.
