Camera M - Pro Manual Camera 7.3.1 Update
2024-01-17
• Haptic Touch EXIF Preview (NEW)
So you just captured a shot, but you want to quickly double-check on the basic settings? Now you can when you Haptic Touch on the last photo button. You get a preview of the shot as usual, but now you get a strip at the bottom with the basic EXIF metadata information. This contains — focal length, aperture, ISO, exposure duration, and most importantly, the image format.

You can simply use Haptic Touch to preview this information and touch-up to make it go away. Also, this new EXIF strip fades away and gets out of the way after a few seconds.

This is also possible from the Camera M photo library grid screen with any photo or video. Please remember that this is just a summary, for a full representation of EXIF metadata, you can always open the photo and view our full representation of EXIF at any time.

Of course, with every new update or implementation of a function on Camera M, accessibility is a huge focus for us. So this new EXIF metadata strip is compatible with Dark and Light modes, Dynamic Type, Reduce Transparency and other accessibility settings on your device.

These small quality-of-life type of improvements are the implementations we are very proud of working on. We would love to hear your thoughts.

• Depth Blur Preview
We took out the depth blur preview a few years ago due to performance issues — now it is back! We worked on it to make it better, and to use less energy. You will see the ‘Depth Preview’ setting is back to opt-out from this function if needed.

• Bug Fixes
Fixed the issue where volume button actions would not work in certain landscape orientations. Made performance improvements to the Highlight & Shadow Alert filter and Focus Peaking filter.

Please check www.camera-m.com/updates for more comprehensive details on this update.

We are truly a small, two-person, developer team without a huge advertising budget; Therefore, if you love Camera M, please free to spread the word and it would mean a lot to us!

We hope you capture incredible photos with Camera M!

• Action Button
For iPhone 15 Pro users, we are excited to bring this new feature — Now with the Action Button, you can toggle through available back cameras.

– Setup Action Button to trigger a Shortcut and select 'Switch Cameras' from Camera M App Shortcuts. That is it!
– Now, when you are using Camera M, you can press and hold the Action Button to switch to the next camera.

We spent a lot of time figuring out the best way to implement this feature, and we believe toggling through the cameras is the best use for the Action Button since you might be using the volume buttons to trigger the capture. Since the camera choice picker is at all the way at the other side of the screen, you can easily change cameras and capture without moving your hand.

• App Shortcuts
We also included other App Shortcuts for your convenience, and all of them are available on the Shortcuts app without any setup required. You can also search for Camera M Shortcuts on Spotlight Search.

• New Camera Picker
Quickly selecting the correct camera has become more important than ever. We believe this is a great solution that takes away the regular two-step process.

– Simply drag the picker to the desired choice without a second step needed.
– Press and hold on the current camera selection to display Camera Profiles.
– Optionally, press on the top or bottom side of the selected camera to switch to the next corresponding choice, without the need to drag.

• 48 MP Photo Setting
We have moved this setting to the main Settings from the camera selector to maintain a cleaner main interface.

• 48 MP Indicator
We have been getting an overwhelming amount of positive feedback on this feature. Since we moved the 48MP Photo Setting to main Settings, we made improvements to the 48 MP Indicator to make it more useful.

– 48 MP Indicator is ON: 48 MP Photo Setting is on. The current state allows for 48 MP photos.
– 48 MP Indicator is DIM: 48 MP Photo Setting is on. The current state does not allow for 48MP photos, photos will be in 12MP resolution.
– 48 MP Indicator is OFF: 48 MP Photo Setting is off. Photos will be in 12 MP resolution

7.0 2023-10-12
Welcome to Camera M version 7! Our biggest update yet.

• COMPLETELY REDESIGNED MANUAL CAMERA CONTROLS
We decided to take Camera M's manual camera controls to the next level - by redesigning the control gauges from the ground up while keeping the gesture-based control mechanism the same. The biggest design change is that the adjustment value position stays static, making it easier to read.

Responds to Touch
This new design beautifully animates to your touch. It expands and moves toward the center of the screen while you are making adjustments, and tucks away when you are not. And yes, they do have ProMotion 120Hz support.

Fine-Tuning Feature
Simply drag away from the gauge while making adjustments to use the 'Fine-Tuning' feature. This will slow down your adjustment, making it easier to make granular changes. Otherwise, simply press and hold to reset back to auto.

Standard Presets
We introduced the Standard Presets feature last year, which snaps the controls to the nearest standard value, depending on the control. For example, adjusting to 193 ISO results in snapping to 200 ISO. These new controls still behave the same way with this setting turned on.

Accessibility
These new gauges conform to Dynamic Text, Bold Text, High Contrast, and other Accessibility settings making Camera M a comprehensively accessible manual camera.

• iOS 17 OPTIMIZATIONS
We made extensive performance upgrades to the photo capture process. We adopted the new zero lag capture feature available in iOS 17. Now there is no lag between the time you press the shutter button to capturing the shot. The subsequent adoption is the responsive capture feature which enables the next capture possible while the previously captured shot is still processing. Meanwhile, Our ultra-fast burst mode got even faster this time. All these adoptions bring incredible improvements to the photo capture process.

HDR Photo Viewing
Now in iOS 17, Camera M displays photos in full dynamic range. ProRAW photos captured in the past and many other formats captured with the new iPhones contain extended dynamic range data which was not displayed before - such as bright specular highlights. Now, when you first view a photo, you will notice the gradual transformation to the HDR mode, if the photo contains the data.

TipKit
With iOS 17, we bring helpful tips to reveal certain Camera M features that you might have missed.

Widgets
We updated all our widgets to work in new places, such as MacOS, along with updated animations which are new in iOS 17.

StandBy Mode
We added a smaller version of our Golden Hour widget for StandBy mode, which also looks great with the new Night Mode. This is by popular demand.

• iPhone 15 & iPhone 15 Pro OPTIMIZATIONS
iPhone 15 users can now capture HEIF, JPEG, TIFF, and PNG in 48MP with the 1x camera. 2x Camera also comes to iPhone 15 with full manual controls. Camera M is now optimized for the new 5x telephoto camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Overall, we made sure Camera M takes full advantage of the new iPhone hardware.

We are still dedicated to only using native APIs with Camera M, making it a significantly efficient and responsive camera app with a small binary size.

Please check www.camera-m.com/updates for more comprehensive details on this update.

We hope you capture incredible photos with Camera M!

Phone 14 Pro Update II

• 2x Camera for iPhone 14 Pro
With our second update for iPhone 14 Pro, we are delighted to bring the 2x Camera to Camera M with full manual controls!

The quad-pixel sensor on iPhone 14 Pro allows beyond the three fixed lenses of the Pro camera system to create an additional 2x Telephoto. Which expands your camera options to 0.5x, 1x, 2x, and 3x. This new 2x Telephoto uses the middle 12 megapixels of the quad-pixel sensor to deliver full-resolution photos with no digital zoom. With its popular 48 mm focal length and great resolution, 2x is the perfect framing choice for many scenarios, especially with the large f/1.78 aperture.

This camera has full manual controls as follows:
– Manual focus
– Manual exposure
– Manual white balance

It can shoot Apple ProRAW and works in Portrait, Bracket, Live Photo, and Burst modes.

CAMERA PROFILES UPDATE
A pro way to select the best camera to help you capture the absolutely perfect moment.

Back in 2017, with Camera M version 1.0, we introduced 'Camera Specifications' — A simple way to view essential information about each camera your device includes. With this significant update, we decided to bring that information to the forefront with a new camera switcher panel.

A long press on the camera choice button will open the usual camera picker, but now, there is a new 'More Info' button, which opens the Camera Profiles panel. You can swipe between pages to change your camera selection or swipe down to dismiss. You can also pin this if you want to open this panel each time you want to switch cameras.

Now, let us talk about the glanceable information displayed on this new panel:
We put a lot of effort into what information should be displayed and how. First, you get a single line of specifications that we thought was crucial when making a camera choice. The zoom factor, focal length, lens aperture, and image resolution are included, but we went the extra mile of including the field of view (FOV) for each camera.

The following section covers the focus, exposure, and white balance capabilities. Again, the minimum focus distance is another unique specification we are proud to include.

Then last but not least, we indicate if the camera is capable of capturing RAW and ProRAW.

Camera Profiles is available on both iPhone and iPad, which includes all devices that Camera M is currently compatible with.

Have Siri show it for you — you can also enable a Siri Shortcut from Camera M Settings, which would allow you to invoke Camera Profiles by just using ‘Hey Siri’, hands-free.

ACCESSIBILITY CAMERA
For Camera M 5.3.1, we were finally able to include our extensive improvements to make Camera M more accessible. Camera M now adheres to Dynamic Type and Bold Text settings throughout the app, including the new Camera Profiles, manual control adjustment labels, and also our great Home Screen Widgets. The Increase Contrast accessibility setting now makes the camera grid and the levels become more prominent along with more interface elements becoming less transparent. Also, the Reduce Transparency setting makes semi-transparent interface elements more opaque. We will be focusing heavily on adding and improving accessibility settings for the next several updates.

LIGHT MODE
With the 5.3.3 update, Camera Roll and Settings in Camera M will adhere to system appearance.

For more information, please visit www.camera-m.com/updates.

We hope you enjoy this update and helps you capture amazing photos.

Manual Controls Update
We hope you enjoyed our last update on Darkroom integration. We decided to focus mainly on UI/UX related to manual controls with this significant update:

NEW ADJUSTMENT PRESETS
We introduced a new setting, ‘Standard Presets,’ allowing exposure bias, ISO, exposure duration, and white balance temperature adjustments to snap into half-stop values. This has been a very popular request from our users.

For example, when this setting is on, you can adjust ISO value to 730, let go, and it will snap to 800. This makes adjusting to standard exposure stops incredibly easy.

MANUAL CONTROL ADJUSTER GAUGES
We made visual changes to manual control adjuster gauges to be easier to read and less intrusive on the camera preview. Also, this is a callback to what we had on Camera M version 1.0.

NEW DEFAULT SCREEN
Till now, Camera M launched into a screen that allowed just exposure bias adjustment. So we decided to make the exposure screen the new default screen. Pressing the exposure button now takes you to ISO and Exposure Screen, our favorite manual control screen. We believe this change makes navigation much cleaner.

GOLDEN HOUR WIDGET
We made visual improvements to Golden Hour Widget. Now it surfaces to the top around Golden Hour, if placed within a stack.

OTHER CHANGES
- The magnifier loupe now keeps memory of its location and visibility status within the focus screen.
- Fixed the incorrect rotation of Haptic Touch previews.

DARKROOM INTEGRATION
We are pleased to welcome you to Camera M 5.1 update — Darkroom Integration.

Darkroom is an award-winning and the most popular photo and video editor for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. We have had countless requests in the past from our users for this feature, and we were fortunate enough to collaborate with Darkroom to bring this workflow to our users.

Now you can capture in Camera M and quickly edit in Darkroom with ease!

SO, HOW DOES THIS WORKFLOW WORK?
While viewing a photo from your library in Camera M, simply tap on the Darkroom button to open that specific item in Darkroom. Any image format type, from ProRAW to TIFF or even videos, will immediately be available to be altered to your desire.

We included this special button in a couple of other places: In the haptic touch menu for the most recent thumbnail on the main interface and the haptic touch menu for the library photo grid.

From Darkroom, you can also launch Camera M with a single tap. Press and hold the camera button on the top left and select Camera M as the preferred camera app to set this up initially.

Our special thanks go to the Darkroom team for this making collaboration possible.

Please note: Darkroom version 5.8.4 or later is required.

5.0.6 2021-12-21
– Minor bug fixes
5.0 2021-10-15
Welcome to Camera M 5! We are delighted to show you what we have been working on during the summer.

• MACRO & MANUAL FOCUS
We have made some extensive improvements to manual focus for macro captures. When the lens is in the closest focus distance, Camera M now displays minimum focus distance in centimeters, providing you a better idea of how far the camera lens should be positioned. Minimum focus distance reporting is also present within Focus Quick Change Menu. This feature is available on all devices, on all cameras capable of manual focus, running iOS 15. In addition, after popular demand, we added values to manual focus adjustments for better reference.

We believe Camera M is your ultimate tool for capturing amazing-looking macro images with incredible detail — providing you with incredibly smooth and accurate manual focus adjustment, a movable 4x magnifier loupe, and focus peaking in fullscreen or within the magnifier!

• USER INTERFACE CHANGES
We have made the most significant user interface change for users of iPhones with Home Indicator! We moved all the buttons that appeared inside the camera preview area down to the control panel, closer to your fingers. This change cleans up the camera preview area while making the button locations more ergonomic.

• NEW DEVICE SUPPORT
Camera M is now fully optimized for iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and the new iPad Mini. Now you can manually focus down to 2 centimeters with the ultra-wide camera on iPhone Pro. Regular RAW is also present for that particular ultra-wide camera; however, we imagine ProRAW would be your preferred choice here.

• ProMotion 120Hz SUPPORT
We were highly excited for 120Hz ProMotion support for the first time on iPhone! We opted in for 120Hz for all the important animations. As a result, the main manual controls feel extremely smooth and more accurate, while the rest of the interface feels more responsive.

• iOS 15
Camera M is fully optimized for iOS 15. We optimized the code to make Camera M more efficient, and the download size is even smaller than before. Camera M is still exclusively powered by native APIs, without any dependency on outside sources.

Apple Watch Series 7 SUPPORT
Camera M is now compatible with the new screen sizes 41mm and 45mm of the Apple Watch Series 7.

• OTHER
We improved localization and region support for main control labels, especially for the German language and region.

We temporarily removed the depth blur preview, and it will be back in a future update. We also made numerous minor bug fixes and improvements throughout the app.

We hope you capture incredible photos with Camera M!

4.3.7 2018-12-19
- Optimized for new M1 iPads — We made improvements to take advantage of the power of M1 on the new iPads. For example, histogram animations render faster, and Dual Photo capture is quicker.
- Other bug fixes and improvements.
4.1.1 2018-12-19
The next level of pro photography is here! We want to welcome you to Apple ProRAW format!

With iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, now capture full 12-bit Linear DNG format images with additional dynamic range.

• What is Apple ProRAW?
Apple ProRAW brings the power of iOS computational photography to RAW. It provides benefits of multi-frame image processing and computational photography, like Deep Fusion and Smart HDR, and combines them with the depth and flexibility of a RAW format. Files are approximately 25MB in file size.

• What makes capturing Apple ProRAW so great with Camera M?
Shoot with fluid gesture-based full manual controls, including focus, exposure, and white balance. Shoot up to 1 second long exposures or manually set ISO to the lowest setting. Have access to the full arsenal of professional tools: movable magnifier loupe, focus peaking, live RGB histograms, highlight and shadow alerts, grey card white balance, and much more.

ProRAW uses Max Image Processing to apply Deep Fusion and Smart HDR, and other computational photography features, ensuring you are getting the absolute best image quality.

We made sure that Sensor-shift stabilization for Wide Camera on iPhone 12 Pro Max and lens stabilization in all other instances are fully utilized to give you the sharpest image possible. Hand-held one-second long exposures are now within reach.

ProRAW is available with the ultra-wide camera! Yes, you read it right.

• Bracket with ProRAW
Dynamic-range-warriors can now capture 3-shot brackets in Apple ProRAW format. Use the default -2EV, 0EV, +2EV bracket, or manually configure with three movable exposure points.

• ProRAW + HEIF
Capture ProRAW with a processed HEIF file alongside or capture ProRAW by itself. When ProRAW + HEIF combination is shared within Camera Roll, you will see the choice to share each format separately.

• Standard RAW
You still have the option to capture standard RAW (Bayer RAW) without any additional processing.

iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 14.3 is required for Apple ProRAW capture.

OTHER CHANGES
We decided to go through all of Camera M and tweak the user interface elements. Icons are rescaled, polished, and the spacing on certain elements are altered to have a cleaner, more professional presentation.

For iPhones with Home Indicator, we rearranged the control center elements to be more ergonomic. This has been the first time such changes were made since the inception of Camera M back in 2017. We hope you all like the changes and would love to hear your thoughts.

For instances where Camera M captures more than one image, we included a badge within the Camera Roll button to indicate the number of shots.

We included additional links within Settings to access the full user manual and app update information quickly.

For any feedback, please do not hesitate to reach us at contact@camera-m.com or @camera.m.ios

2.2.2 2018-12-03
This version includes numerous performance improvements and addresses minor issues. It also marks the start of Camera-M’s transition to a more streamlined interface on the iPad and iPad Pro.

■ Updated iPad interface with improved layout and better legibility. In some ways, this is a temporary state of things, since one of the next immediate updates will contain the full implementation of what we have been working on.

■ Support of OIS during demanding custom exposure settings.* This allows Camera-M to produce sharper results in situations where, for instance, the exposure duration had been set to a maximum value — such as the iPhone XR’s 1.0 second. Starting with this update, Camera-M will default to Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) on supported devices.

■ Addressed a rare issue where photos taken with custom exposure settings would be saved with an incorrect exposure duration value.

■ Addressed a rare issue with Depth Mode causing Camera-M to behave unexpectedly during a capture session.

■ Apple Watch support with Digital Crown integration

2.2.1 2018-11-20
Taking incredible photos with Camera-M just got even better. This release introduces the long-awaited support for Apple Watch, includes substantial design improvements for the latest iPhone models, full support for the new iPad Pro, and addresses minor issues.

■ Apple Watch support. We think you will find what we have done here to be quite useful. Instead of just simply throwing in a shutter button and, maybe, a timer or two — we wanted to create something that takes advantage of the fantastic tactile feel offered by the Digital Crown. You can now make precise control adjustments for focus, exposure and white balance using your Apple Watch. Just tap the icon next to the Digital Crown to enable this. In situations where your iPhone has to be perfectly still, such as when using a tripod for macro or landscape photography, this feature becomes incredibly helpful in making precise adjustments before capturing the perfect shot.

■ Improved UI for iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. For this update we took another look at how we utilized the space around the notch. After trying numerous options, we realized that placing icons that represent selected formats and shooting modes around the notch created a better all-around experience when using Camera-M.

■ Full support for the amazing new iPad Pro models. We cannot get over just how absolutely stunning the displays on these powerhouses are. And with this release, we have made the necessary adjustments and improvements to ensure that Camera-M performs even better on the new iPad Pro.

■ Various improvements and fixes for minor issues.

Version 2.1

■ Siri Shortcuts for iOS 12. We took a carefully weighed approach to implementing this powerful feature. Besides offering practical shortcuts to expedite your workflow, when staging or capturing your photos — we also wanted to make sure that the process of accessing and enabling these shortcuts was as straightforward, as possible. There is no need to leave Camera-M to add or edit a shortcut.

Version 2.0

■ Those of you, who are fortunate enough to own the new iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max, will be happy to know that Camera-M has added full support for those gorgeous displays. Everything works just as it should!

■ Fully optimized for iOS 12. As always, Camera-M continues to adhere exclusively to native APIs and Frameworks. And for this version, we have gone the extra mile to ensure that absolutely everything is up to par — from code written entirely in latest Swift syntax — to making countless minute optimizations, in order to take full advantage of improved system performance — courtesy of iOS 12. And of course, with this update, Camera-M continues to launch incredibly quickly, even with the more responsive controls.

■ Updated UI for iOS 12. Numerous icons and UI elements have been updated to better fit the overall look and feel of iOS 12 and the new iPhone models. We hope you like these new pixel-perfect iterations, as much as we do.

■ Improved Focus Tracking. Camera-M now provides a noticeably smoother and more responsive user experience, when following a subject of interest with Focus Tracking.

■ Portrait Effects Matte for Depth Mode.* This will blow your mind. The very moment you see your photos taken with Portrait Effects Matte. This feature is automatically activated in Depth Mode, when your device detects a face, as the subject of interest. Photos taken with PEM contain a much higher resolution depth map, which produces a beautifully detailed segmentation mask. Combined with our custom background blur — up to the simulated f/1.0 — your photos will have a stunning level of detail between the subject and the background bokeh.

Portrait Effects Matte map is saved along with the standard image depth map information for editing outside of Camera-M.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know at contact@camera-m.com.

HIGHLIGHT AND SHADOW ALERTS
Camera-M now supports live preview of over and under exposed areas. Clipped highlights are shown with a red overlay, while clipped shadows are marked in blue.
This instant visual reference provides an additional insight into setting up properly exposed shots. We think you will find this new feature to be incredibly powerful and practical, and a worthy addition to the already included exposure tools, such as the exposure offset gauge and live histograms.

FULLSCREEN FOCUS PEAKING
Focus Peaking is now vastly improved. The addition of a fullscreen option provides a more informative and accurate overview for scene focusing. The option to display Focus Peaking inside of just the Magnifier, which now renders at higher frame rates, remains available. Simply tap on the Magnifier, while it is in use, to turn its Focus Peaking on or off.

DEPTH PHOTO SAVING OPTIONS
Camera-M now offers more options for saving Depth Photo image files. As many of you have requested, there are now separate options for saving a processed Depth Photo and an unprocessed version with Depth Map attachment. Both of these saving methods can be enabled simultaneously.

SIRI INTEGRATION
Quickly and conveniently launch Camera-M by telling Siri “Launch Camera M”. No need to pronounce the “dash” in Camera-M’s name, when speaking to Siri.

OTHER CHANGES
– Even shorter launches times
– Overall efficiency improvements
– Numerous visual enhancements
– Minor bug fixes
