Cold WXR Altitude Correction Description
Cold Weather Altitude Correction is a tool for visualizing and calculating approaches at low temperatures.
In addition you will find a decoder for METAR RWY Reports.

The calculation is based on ICAO PANS OPS Doc 8168.
It uses a more accurate method as the well-known 4 per correction, which becomes imprecise for temperatures below -15°C.

Conventional tools are calculating only a list of temperature corrected altitudes. This tool is designed more closely to a real approach. Corrected altitudes are presented in a graphical interface. A table of distances with related corrected altitudes can be calculated.

With only field elevation and temperature a graphic layout will be shown:
- glide path down to the runway
- corrected MSA
- corrected MDA
- corrected GPA
- corrected custom ALT
Moving a yellow dot along the glide path down to the runway will show any corrected altitudes with their related distances to threshold or to a DME station.

Distance - Altitude Table:
A table with distance and corrected altitude can be calculated.
This table is similar to the distance / altitude tables known from instrument approach charts, but it will show corrected altitudes.
You can choose between an approach type based on "distance to threshold" (GPS) or based on a defined DME station.

A handbook is included in the app itself.
For night operations you can switch to dark mode.

3.1.1 2024-02-15
The number of whole DME values displayed in a split view table has been increased.
Display improvements for the IPAD Mini 6.
3.1.0 2023-11-03
- Adapted to iPadOS 17.
- Fixed a small bug that caused the 'DME station button' to become enabled after the view was locked and unlocked.
- After entering an additional ALT (green box), a button appears that automatically adjusts the range and position of the yellow point to show the intersection of the glide path from the entered (green) ALT.
- Improved error handling.
- Minor display improvements.
- Minor accuracy improvements.

Split View, Slide Over And Screen Rotation
The app has been rewritten from scratch to support multitasking and different screen sizes, including portrait and square windows.
For small window sizes the graphical interface is replaced by a simple table with corrected values.
It has also been adapted to current and future iOS specifications.
2.1.0 2019-09-28
iOS 13 adjustments.
Minor keyboard improvements.
2.0.1 2019-08-12
Elevation Range
- max elevation increased from 9999 ft to 15000 ft
- depending on elevation MDA/DA and ALT entries will be limited to 4 or 5 digits
- limits of OAT, MDA/DA and ALT will be checked after elevation change

OAT Range
- changed for elevations >7500 ft to avoid negative corrections
- allowed temperature range will be shifted to lower temperatures

Vertical Profile on DME DIST Page
- position adjusted to fit different iPad sizes

More Accurate Calculation Method
According ICAO PANS OPS Doc 8168 a correction of 4 per cent height increase for every 10°C below standard temperature is safe for all altimeter settings for temperatures above -15°C.
For temperatures of -15°C or below a more accurate tabulated correction or its underlying equation should be used.
The calculation of all corrected altitudes is changed to the more accurate equation, regardless of the temperature.

Additional Altitude, DIST To THR or DME
An additional altitude may be entered to show its corrected value.
The corrected altitude will be shown as a green horizontal line and/or a green dot on the vertical profile.
Instead of an altitude you can also enter a "distance to threshold" respectively DME value.

Adjustments To Different Screen Sizes
Increased the number of entries in the distance-altitude table:
- by 1 entry for iPad Pro 10.5 and iPad Air 3rd gen.
- by 2 entires for iPad Pro 11.0
- by 3 entries for iPad Pro 12.9
1.2.0 2015-05-13
Dark Mode for night operation added. iPad Pro 10,5 and 12,9 adjustments for large displays. Navigation elements added to main views. Color pattern modernized. Text changes and clarifications. Minor design improvements. Adjustments to latest iOS.
