About CoreCalc

CoreCalc is an iPhone mathematics application for Calculus I students. It highlights common errors in five categories: Precalculus, Limits, Derivatives, Optimization & Related Rates, and Antiderivatives. Students are presented questions in each category that focus on common errors and misconceptions which, if not addressed, lead to student failure in calculus. Students have the option to visit basic reference material before they begin the questions. Detailed solutions accompany each question. These questions are the result of a research project in which student errors on thousands of test pages were tagged and analyzed.

This app will help any student in high school or college who is taking Calculus I or preparing for Calculus II. Calculus instructors will also find it a useful resource for their classes.

This project was supported in part by two NSF grants and a Hewlett-Packard Teaching-with-Technology grant. It was also supported by the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the School of Computing at Clemson University.
