《曼谷暴雨》是流言侦探系列一代《流言侦探——活着的死者》的番外篇，接续一代时间线，玩家将听到主角N讲述五年前他在曼谷发生的故事。
游戏在继承一代玩法的基础上优化了UI和部分细节，同时增加了3首原创主题音乐，剧情方面保留了一代对主角N的设定，并增设了全新的角色推动情节发展。
故事主要讲一代结束后N带领玩家回忆五年前他在曼谷进行的一次任务。这次，玩家将和N一起通过对一个家庭深入了解和惊心动魄的经历挖掘事件背后真相。与一代不同，番外篇中的N因特殊情况而更加需要玩家的鼓励与支持，玩家可以通过关键性对话影响现在的N，让他选择自己对五年前事件的处理方式，从而影响结局。
另外，部分一代角色将回归，玩家可以与他们进行对话了解他们在一代结束后的生活。
