DEVONthink To Go

This is (one of) the last maintenance update(s) for DEVONthink To Go 2. It prepares the data store for version 3.0, which has been in the works for a while and will become available as a separate app in the App Store in due course. A welcome screen will inform you about the arrival of DEVONthink To Go 3.0. The update to 2.7.8 also brings those bug fixes over from version 3 that don't depend on larger changes to the database or app structure, or would make the app incompatible to iOS 11 and 12. And finally, we've updated the PDF library and MultiMarkdown support as well as brought the sync submodule on part with DEVONthink 3.6 for Mac and the upcoming DEVONthink To Go 3.0.

This maintenance release allows you to merge floating toolbars with the top toolbar to move them out of the way, and increases the size of preview images. Version 2.7.7 also improves the performance when handling PDFs, better avoids reindexing metadata unnecessarily, and fixes a number of bugs and glitches.

This maintenance release improves the reliability and performance when synchronizing via iCloud and updates the integrated Dropbox support. It also launches DEVONthink To Go explicitly in light mode to avoid issues with text being hardly readable while we're preparing full dark mode support.

This maintenance release improves "Clip to DEVONthink" on iOS 13 as well as the item selection handling. The update also fixes a number of issues and crashes, the most prominent ones being a crash on launch on older iOS devices and a crash related to the memory management of the PDF viewer.

This maintenance release improves iCloud upload monitoring. It also fixes issues with self-closing popovers on iPad, missing Edit buttons for sheets, and a crash when adding photo animations to PDFs. Finally, we've tweaked some some slightly off animations.

This mainenance release fixes issues related to the contextual menu of PDF documents, synchronizing with DEVONthink 2, and creating preview images.

With this maintenance release we're focusing again also on DEVONthink To Go. Version 2.7.2 brings its sync mechanism on par with its Mac counterpart, reintroduces the sync status sheet, and updates its PDF library. It also improves the reliability and performance of items list and the grid view, and makes handling of indexed items consistent to DEVONthink 3 on the Mac. Bugs fixed by this update include issues related to large number of images in the Files app, memory management, and more.

This maintenance release fixes a crash during indexing PDF documents. Version 2.7.1 deletes temporary data as soon as it's fully uploaded to iCloud and prefers IPv6 for direct connections. It also improves the overall robustness of the app.

Version 2.7 adds push notifications for the synchronisation, a PDF outline view, and an option to sort by date added. It also improves the handling of tags when groups or documents are moved to the trash, the keyboard handling when searching, and the reliability of automatic PDF double spread mode. Imported email messages receive the original message's creation date. The update also adds an warning for when you change the encryption key of a sync store, and makes the automatic sync intervals shorter.

NOTE:

Starting with version 2.7 DEVONthink To Go uses a server provided by DEVONtechnologies for providing push notification. For this service to work it needs to keep track of devices and which sync stores and databases they are interested in. Therefore we are extending our privacy policy with the following information:

"For providing synchronization push notifications DEVONtechnologies maintains a list of records consisting of an anonymized device identifier (UID), the unique identifier (UUID) of a sync store, the UUID of a databases in that sync store, information about the app edition and beta status, as well as a timestamp. Nether the UID nor the sync store and database UUIDs can be backtraced by DEVONtechnologies to a named user. We're collecting the app edition and beta status to send the data to the correct server at Apple and the timestamp to delete records that haven't been used in a while. The actual push notification is sent via the Apple Push Notification service."

This maintenance release indexes items without searchable text locally, e.g. email synchronized from DEVONthink Pro, and enhances the way it handles the keyboard when searching. It also improves the reliability of retrieving web page thumbnails, the progress indication when verifying and cleaning sync stores, and the overall reliability and performance of the synchronization.

Version 2.6.5 no longer comes with sync location templates for MagentaCLOUD (unreliable) and Box.com (will drop WebDAV support on January 1st, 2019). This doesn't affect existing sync stores but migrating to other services soon is highly recommended.

This maintenance release brings improvements, fixes, and changes for iOS 12 and the iPhone XS Max. It also improves the workflow when creating, grouping, or searching for items. DEVONthink To Go now uses the easier-to-read San Francisco font for documents and improves the legibility of headers in item lists. Finally, version 2.6.4 makes more consistent the interplay of enabling incoming Bonjour connections and shallowly synchronized databases.

This maintenance release focuses on improving reliability and fixing minor bugs and glitches.

This maintenance release fixes another crash on iOS 9 as well as issues related to the Files app integration, searching, and the unread status of groups. It also removes a path name extension from document names when importing them, e.g., via the Files app.

This maintenance release fixes crashes on iOS 9. In addition it allows setting flags and labels when creating documents via URL commands and improves saving through the file provider extension.

This feature release adds iCloud synchronization as well as synchronizing in the background. Sync locations can now be manually deactivated like on the Mac, and the Help screen shows the last synchronization and background refresh dates. The sync toolbar icon is used for the synchronization progress again while more detailed information is still available in the background activity info at the end of item lists.

In addition, version 2.6 allows you to search directly from the database list on the home screen. Item lists show up to three lines for the title and three lines for the details of each item, and an app-wide setting allows keeping groups sorted to the top. Two new global smart groups list office and text documents. Finally, the "update" URL command allows changing an item's color label as well as its flagged and unread status.

This maintenance release enhances Clip to DEVONthink and the app security introduced with version 2.5. It makes synchronizing via sync stores more reliable and checks the available disk space before importing databases from remote locations. Background tasks are handled more reliable and providing indexed text to Spotlight has less impact on performance and battery life. The update also fixes a number of bugs and glitches.

Version 2.5 adds passcode and Touch ID or Face ID security to DEVONthink To Go to protect it from prying eyes. The update also extends the automation options with new URL commands and adds up to 16 KB of text content to Spotlight. It also improves Bonjour sync reliability and fixes issues related to Files.app and third-party app integration as well as other glitches.

This maintenance release enables editing existing PDF annotations without switching to edit mode. It also fixes issues related to rotating the device, swiping databases, and the PDF annotation toolbar.

This maintenance release is all about synchronization. Version 2.4.3 adds synchronizing automatically when DEVONthink To Go is being put into the background and improves the reliability of the sync status indication. Downloading shallowly synchronized documents is more reliable, and DEVONthink To Go is more compatible to some WebDAV services. Further enhancements include basic authentification for bookmarks, better performance, and reduced memory usage.

This maintenance release updates the PDF library with bug fixes and improves the way informative notifications are presented. It also fixes issues related to, e.g., the progress status, the file item provider, Photos library access, and the localization.

This maintenance release enables iOS 11 drag-and-drop on the iPhone and improves the way HTML and Markdown documents load local resources. Version 2.4.1 also corrects a number of issues related to PDF annotating, HTML and Markdown handling, and indexing.

This update adds support for the iPhone X, new editors, and workflow improvements. PDF pages can be rearranged and rotated and sheets with table-like data can not only be viewed but now also created and edited. The "Info" sheet can change flags and labels for more than one document at once, e.g., for quickly marking multiple items as read. DEVONthink To Go captures office documents from web pages and imports multiple databases from sync stores at the same time. This makes adding all relevant databases to a new device more comfortable. Finally, version 2.4 uses clipboard content for new documents only on demand and comes with more reliably Files app support. The update improves the overall performance, too, and fixes a number of bugs and glitches.

This update is dedicated to iOS 11 and its enhancements but also comes with improvements for earlier versions of iOS. It adds drag-and-drop inside DEVONthink To Go as well as to and from other apps. You can use your database through the new "Files" app and create notes or search for documents with Siri. A new "Favorites" smart group lists groups marked inside DEVONthink To Go as favorites as well as the favorites from Files. Finally, version 2.3 allows to verify and clean sync locations and mark items as read or unread with a new swipe action. The update improves the overall performance, too, and fixes a number of bugs and glitches.

This update adds Spotlight support and unifies the activity display for all background tasks including the synchronization. Maintenance tasks now run concurrently and no longer block the user interface. In addition, tags can be pasted into the "Info" sheet, and sharing apps from the App Store creates formatted notes. This maintenance release fixes issues related to the "Clip to DEVONthink" sharing extension.

This release optionally shows the contents of databases and smart groups in grid view and allows to reference local resources in Markdown or HTML documents with absolute paths. In addition, DEVONthink To Go 2.1.5 switches to the latest Dropbox backend.

This release adds support for directly sending scans from Readdle Scanner Pro to DEVONthink To Go. Version 2.1.4 features a completely rewritten "Action" menu for sharing documents and makes scrolling vertically through long PDFs much more comfortable. Markdown documents can use local CSS stylesheets, too, and the document provider extension is available on iOS 9 now.

This release adds new settings for PDFs, allows to copy and use a database's item link, and extends its URL command set with new commands and x-callback-url support. A new smart group lists all items that have comments, and email attachments are now listed separately, can be viewed and shared. The Apple Pencil support for PDF annotations has been improved too.

This release adds options for enabling or disabling iOS backups of the databases, shows item counts for databases, and lists the real amount of used disk space. Item lists can be sorted by creation, modification, or access date, and multiple selected documents can be shared, e.g., to send them by email or iMessage.

The "Download: Always/On demand" setting for groups can now be removed so that the group again uses the setting of the enclosing group. DEVONthink To Go 2.1.2 also increases the contrast of lists with items not downloaded and lets Markdown and HTML document use local images and link to documents using relative paths. In addition, the release fixes multiple bugs and glitches.

This maintenance release fixes an issue introduced with version 2.1 where DEVONthink To Go claims that the database couldn't be moved to its new location. In addition it improves the overall performance and adds new hidden commands and settings for customer support purposes.
