About E-AHPBA 2017

Be up to date with this application regarding the scientific programme, including all invited speakers as well as abstract authors, information about Mainz and surroundings and also sponsors and exhibitors.
The 12th International Congress of the European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association will take place in Mainz from 23 to 26 May, 2017.
The organizing committee in cooperation with the E-AHPBA put greatest effort in the creation of an exciting scientific programme: in addition to state-of-the-art lectures and interdisciplinary symposia the meeting will give clinicians and scientists from Europe and all over the world the opportunity to present and exchange their HPB experience with particular emphasis on the integration of young scientists. The main programme will contain 31 symposia, 24 special, 6 key-note and two update lectures in addition to a very high-level scientific programme.

For those, who are interested in specializing in HPB surgery, the UEMS HPB surgery can also be taken during the congress. One of the scopes of the EAHPBA is education and training in HPB surgery. Traditionally, the biennial E-AHPBA meeting includes a postgraduate course during which experts in the respective field present deep insight into a specific topic of HPB diseases. Moreover, this course offers the unique potential for personal discussions with these experts.
Since the European Boards of Surgical Qualification (EBSQ) are organized by the association to award surgeons with exceptional experience in the field of HPB surgery, the association has decided to provide a two-year curriculum based on postgraduate courses which expose participants to the most actual data on the respective topics of HPB surgery.
The 2017 Postgraduate Course will be held on May 23 on the Topic “Surgery for Pancreatic Diseases”. International experts in the field of pancreas surgery will present standards and specials in pancreas surgery. A particular emphasis will be set on management of surgical complications.

Furthermore the 2017 meeting will contain the ”10th anniversary of ALPPS” meeting in addition to a fascinating scientific programme. The 10th Anniversary of ALPPS will be celebrated on 23rd May 2017. Ten years ago, the first “in-situ” split has been performed by the Schlitt group in Regensburg, which induces maximal liver regeneration within a few days from surgery. Since its first publication in the Annals of Surgery 2012, this procedure has gained maximal enthusiasm among liver surgeons and has been considered a revolution in liver surgery. In order to differentiate it from liver (split) transplantation it has been renamed ALPPS (Associating Liver Partition and Portal vein Ligation for Staged hepatectomy) procedure in 2012. After the initial hype on this procedure, several adaptions have been published following reports on morbidity and mortality of this procedure. A consequent registry has been founded in order to collect maximal information about the ALPPS procedure. Current analyses of this registry reveal controversial results. This meeting is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the first ALPPS procedure. During the meeting, participants will learn about the idea and development of the first ALPPS procedures, and experts will present most actual developments, scientific background and results.
Taking place every day from 7:00 am to 8:00 am, Meet the Professor Sessions will also play an important role in the congress programme, providing a forum for interactive discussions based upon a specific topic on which the chosen professors are leaders in their fields. They are first class and one-of-a-kind learning opportunity.
We have received over 760 abstracts for oral, poster and video presentations and are impressed by the extremely high quality of the submitted research from European centers and from abroad.
The scientific programme of the 12th EAHPBA-meeting in Mainz will include oral presentations, poster presentations and video presentations.
