About FieldScout GreenIndex+

Use the FieldScout GreenIndex+ app to measure the chlorophyll content of your plants and compute nitrogen application recommendations to maximize your production. GreenIndex+ determines the DGCI (Dark Green Color Index) of plant leaves. DGCI is a number between 0 and 1, related to the chlorophyll content. You must use the app with specific green and yellow color standards on a pink target board in order for the DGCI to be computed accurately.

It’s as easy as:

1. Using GreenIndex+, take a picture of a leaf lying across the target board.

2. On the screen, tap the green and yellow disks and the leaf to identify the areas to be analyzed. Move and resize the leaf’s circle to analyze the exact portion you want.

3. Read the results: DGCI, and for corn, a SPAD equivalent and nitrogen application recommendations based on university research when using high-Nitrogen reference strips.

Results are logged with time stamps and GPS information (if Location Services are enabled), and can be emailed for further analysis with other programs.

Averaging combines multiple samples into a single computation, or optionally related readings can be grouped while maintaining the separate data values.

Use the White Balance Lock feature to improve accuracy in low or artificial light environments.

Requires a rear-camera-equipped iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, running iOS 8.0 or later. For DGCI calculations to be accurate, pictures must be taken with the leaves in front of a pink background board with specific green and yellow standard color disks. GreenIndex+ Boards are available from www.SpecMeters.com/GreenIndex.

v2.1
Performance improvements
This version requires iOS 8.0 or later.

v2.0
The first time the app is run, a screen tour will introduce settings and the measurement process. The tour can be rerun later from the Info screen.

The Results screen has been redesigned to make averaging multiple readings easier for greater accuracy. (Tapping 'End Average' on each reading provides a no-average option.) Selecting Log Individual Readings groups multiple readings without averaging. This replaces the Compare Indexes feature in the previous version.

Logged records now default to local time, with UTC as an option. Column headers accompany all values in the Log file. The Log file names now include date and time to avoid accidentally overwriting previous files, and the extension has been changed to '.csv' to enable double-click opening in Excel.

Metric units are now supported.

The 'Corn Nitrogen Level' calculation has been replaced with the well-known Penn State and Iowa State methods for computing Nitrogen recommendations using high-Nitrogen reference strips.

IMPORTANT: To protect your logged results, be sure to email them before updating GreenIndex+.

Choose between General or Corn in Settings to display crop-specific results. Upgrades from previous versions will initially default to Corn. New installations will default to General.

Column headers are now included in the emailed log file.

Use the pinch gesture to zoom the image so the target board fills the screen/image.

The White Balance Lock is now a single button which indicates whether the camera is in automatic or locked mode. Mid-screen text makes it easier to see that the white balance is unlocked.

This version requires iOS 5.0 or later.

Added ability to lock White Balancing in the camera. This improves accuracy in low or artificial light environments.

Added the ability to save images to the camera roll.

Added warnings for situations that would cause computation errors, such as identifying the yellow disk as green and the green as yellow.

SPAD equivalent values are now logged.

Bug fixes.
