New lessons! Police Encounter: Multi-lesson
This module expands on the previous police encounter experiences and allows the Coach to choose from an array of targeted behaviors, select level of difficulty and adjust the language based on whether the Learner would be perceived as an adult or a minor. In addition to answering questions posed by police officers, the Learner is asked to demonstrate behaviors that may be asked by a police officer. These behaviors include: following directions, showing identification, sitting & waiting, and combinations of these skills. Furthermore, there is one path in which the Learner may practice self-disclosing any relevant health information (such as autism) if he or she so chooses. (Sometimes, when there is an encounter with police, someone who is experiencing communication difficulties can help adjust an officer's expectations by disclosing this information; however, it should be recognized that it is completely the choice of the Learner whether to disclose this information or not.)\n\nThe police officer speaks sternly at times and is more friendly at other times depending on the level of difficulty that the Coach chooses. In this module, there is more specific prompting dialogue available that the Coach may have the officer say to the Learner. The officer's language is often different for someone who might be perceived as an adult as opposed to someone who might be perceived as a minor.

You'll notice a new series of lessons designed to help students practice prosocial skills in the classroom. The first Learning Card gives the Learner an opportunity to acclimate to an unpopulated classroom. The student can make observations, make predictions or practice calming strategies as needed. In the subsequent Learning Cards, the student has opportunities to notice the behaviors of other students in the classroom; select a seatmate, finish a conversation when the teacher starts class, direct attention to the teacher, raise hand to answer a question, refrain from calling out answers without being called on, refrain from correcting other students in the classroom, ask for a repetition of a teacher‘s question as needed.
