《药师经》，全名《药师琉璃光如来本愿功德经》，和《地藏经》一样，是赞叹药师佛行愿的佛经。《药师经》是中国佛教宗派中显教和密宗共同尊奉的一部重要大乘佛教经典，在佛教史上具有广泛的影响。
阐明药师琉璃佛在因地行菩萨道时所发的十二大愿，他给予众生所需要的一切：衣食、健康、娱乐、教育乃至未来的幸福。药师佛法是一种无价的精神修持法，从有情现世利益出发，贫困的给予衣食，缺陷的令其完整，这种深奥的精神修持可以启动世间众生本身具有的治疗力量，使之爆发出来。不仅可以自行治愈某些身体上的疾病，同时还可以救治因为贪欲导致的心理疾病，从而令人类达到和乐生存的境地，所以众生有困难之时总要念药师如来。
