Positional information (geographical coordinates, course, speed, etc.) is sent from a device to the server of a tracking system where it is stored. On this basis, one can generate tabular reports (trips/stops, visits to geofences, intervals of connection loss, etc.), build routes on the map, and receive notifications about various kinds of events.
Apart from positional data, text messages and images can be sent from a mobile device to the server, which means you can hold a conversation with an operator/dispatcher.
In the mobile device, your location can be visualized on the map.
Note: continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
