HALIDE 2.1.1: THE PRORAW UPDATE (UPDATE)
In this small patch to our big update, we've fixed a bug where RAW context menu sometimes doesn't work. ProRAW you say? That's right, ProRAW is now available in Halide!
If you’re on iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, we’re excited to not only bring you this game-changing feature, but the added control and smart features you’ve come to expect from Halide.
We didn’t just add ProRAW and call it a day. This update makes Halide the most flexible ProRAW camera around.
There’s more capture settings now. Halide 2.1 lets ProRAW-capable iPhones shoot ProRAW+, ProRAW, RAW+, and RAW. All of these shooting options have their own benefits, so you might want to switch between them more frequently. To enable this, we’ve added a context menu to the toolbar. Just long-press on the “RAW” button to choose your bit-depth and preferred RAW. You can also access them alongside the rest of of Capture Settings, of course.
What’s that about bit depth?
Well… ProRAW files are big. ProRAWs average around 25mb, but they can go all the way up to 40mb. Halide allows you to choose a lower bit-depth and skip the processed version, reducing file size by over 50%. Again, we make it easier to fiddle with these settings: just long-press on the ‘RAW’ (or ‘PRO’) icon in your Quick Bar.
Inside the photo gallery, our metadata panel now exposes deep information about ProRAWs. With our exclusive DNG tools, we can dig into low-level details about the file to reveal its bit depth, and whether it’s a Linear RAW (the technical term for ProRAW).
As a reminder, ProRAW is only available on iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, running iOS 14.3. Unfortunately, this is a hardware limitation, as these devices have twice the other memory as models. If you’re running a 12 Pro device and don’t see ProRAW options, please make sure you’ve updated to iOS 14.3.
For all other iPhones that do not get ProRAW, don’t fret: Halide offers its Smart RAW logic for the best possbile RAW exposures and Instant RAW to get a great image out of them right away. Give it a go!
Thank you all for supporting Halide. If you have any bug reports or suggestions, don’t hestitate to reach out via our support email, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. If you dig this update, consider rating us or leaving a review. They go a long way.
Finally, don’t forget to tag your #ShotWithHalide. We plan to feature the best ProRAW shots on our Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Thanks for using Halide! Last week we released an update with official support for the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. We've collected your feedback (and bug reports), and decided to put out this small update.
You may notice we've improved responsiveness when adjusting manual exposure. Let's just say we're preparing Halide for some exciting new iPhone camera features.
We've also heard from a lot of folks who received Halide Mark II as a free upgrade, but would still like a "Pay Once" option to ensure they receive Mark II updates far into the future. If you go to Settings, and "Member Center," we now have a button to pay once.
This update includes all the features of our last update, which we'll recap:
THE IPHONE 12 MINI AND IPHONE 12 PRO MAX UPDATE
It’s been an exciting few weeks for iPhone users. First, we released Halide Mark II, a total redesign of our app with over 50+ new features, for free for all our existing users. Then Apple released the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. And now, Apple and Lux bring you some extra treats: the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max, which go great with this new update: Halide 2.0.4.
Halide 2.0.4 brings compatibility for the new tiny iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max, allowing the best camera app on the App Store to let you unlock the power of the massive new camera sensor, in-body sensor-shift stabilization and 65mm telephoto lens on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the stunning f/1.6 Wide camera on the iPhone 12 mini.
Here's a few of the things we've done: We've updated the Technical Readout to support the latest iPhones. We've added new frame lines, tweaked controls, layout and design, and optimized the app. On iPhone 12 Pro Max, we now capture the most detailed, low-noise RAW files that have ever been shot on any iPhone. And we're just getting started!
This update also brings a number of performance improvements and layout fixes for all of our users, from the iPhone SE to the iPhone 11. Sharing RAW files works better. Things somehow look and feel even better!
As a reminder, Halide Mark II is a free update for all existing Halide 1 users. If you loved the update, please consider getting a Membership to support us in the Settings. As a reward, you will unlock some special icons.
We're listening to feedback and bug reports, so if you have any requests, please reach out to support@lux.camera and we'll get right on it. You can also reach out to @halidecamera on Twitter. We're a small, three person team, but we'll try to get back to you as soon as possible.
Finally if you enjoy Halide Mark II, please consider leaving a rating. It goes a long way.

Thank you so much for your support of Mark II. Over the last two weeks we've been collecting feedback (and fixing bugs) and today we're launching our first batch of improvements.
As a reminder, Halide Mark II is a free update for all existing Halide 1 users. Some folks were confused because they tapped the "Restore Purchases" button and it seemed like nothing was happening. It works, but sometimes it can be slow due to a bad network connection, or the App Store just acting weird. We now show a progress indicator after you tap that "Restore" button so you know that it's chugging away.
We've updated the Technical Readout to properly label all the iPhone 12 models, and show appropriate icons.
We've fixed layout issues around our membership screens that could pop up on home-button iPhones, and especially around longer languages. Sorry Germany! We will have work ahead, but you'll find this update way better.
We fixed our most common crashes. If you're on an iPhone SE (2nd Generation), we fixed a potential crash when taking a depth-photo on the front facing camera. We also fixed a crash that could occur if you immediately return to the home screen while the app is still loading.
There's also tons of small improvements that are too numerous to get into. Like we fixed that mispelling of "Flourescent."
We're listening to feedback and bug reports, so if you have any requests, please reach out to support@lux.camera and we'll get right on it. You can also reach out to @halidecamera on Twitter. We're a small, three person team, but we'll try to get back to you as soon as possible.

After 18 months of work, today we're excited to launch Halide Mark II — Not just Halide's biggest update yet, but a whole new app.
If you already bought Halide 1, we have great news: you're getting Mark II for free!
We have a lot to talk about and limited space in release notes, so for the full details check out our announcement at blog.halide.cam
A LEAP FORWARD IN DESIGN
Halide has been completely redesigned. We've taken years of lessons and advancements from Halide to inform its new design. Our new interface is simplified, yet more powerful — thanks to new gestures and thoughtful details throughout. It is even more polished than before. Of course, everything is still in easy reach with one hand — even on phones with a home button: iPhone SE users rejoice!
COVERAGE AND INSTANT RAW
Everyone wants to shoot RAW. It's powerful — but where do you start?
When you take a photo with the built-in camera app, it makes a ton of decisions on your behalf. That's great for most, but your involvement in development is part of the artistic process, similar to how photographers would choose a specific film stock and processing to achieve a specific look.
Aspiring photographers learning to process RAW face three big challenges. 1) Unprocessed images start out looking worse than you expect, 2) the iPhone cannot perform advanced computational photography, such as Smart HDR and Deep Fusion, while capturing RAW, and 3) Many popular photo filter apps don't support RAW.
All these problems leave aspiring photographers thinking: "Do I want to take a photo that's ready to share, or jump through all these hoops for maximum power when editing?"
Until today.
Introducing two new features: Halide Mark II is the first camera to capture both RAW and computational photos in one burst, in a feature we call COVERAGE. Now you can take amazing photos that leverage all the advanced photography of the latest iPhones, while having a RAW in your back pocket in case you think you can do better.
We're making it easier to edit a RAW with a feature we call INSTANT RAW. Think of as midway between a completely unedited RAW, and a totally processed JPEG. It's really meant for editing, but sometimes you'll be amazed by the results. It's one tap in our brand new reviewer.
PRO TOOLS XDR
Mark II bursts with new tools to help with focus and exposure. First we revamped our existing Luminance and Color histograms. You can now keep them tiny and out of the way if you want your full attention on your photo, or enlarge them to obsess over fine details.
But our groundbreaking change is the addition of a third type of visualization, the Waveform. Up to now, this powerful tool was only used in high-end motion picture work, and we're the first app to bring it to photography. In short, this tool horizontally scans over your image to expose which color channels are clipped.
You may be familiar with Zebra Stripes, stripes appear when parts of your images are clipped. However, we've advanced the concept of Zebras to include details on which individual channels are clipped. We call them Color Zebras.
These are the most advanced tools for an iPhone camera yet: All of these features use something we call Extended Dynamic Range (XDR). We are the the first camera app to provide full, 14-bit RAW data powered exposure tools in realtime.
INTRODUCING: MEMBERSHIP
As a Halide owner, you own all of its core features. It is not going away. However, we are offering a separate, *completely optional* membership so we can offer services with ongoing cost, and premium, ongoing content. Subscribe today for an exclusive new icon.
THANK YOU
Halide is made by a small team of three. It wouldn't be possible to ship a massive project like this without support from folks like you, a person who cares enough to read to the bottom of crazy long release notes. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support! If you love it, leave us a review!

Surprise, Manual Photogs! If you're upgrading to iOS 14, this update should fix an issue where the status bar won't go away after reviewing your photos. It also fixes an issue related to setting photo access permission to "Limited."
We apologize if you run into an issue running Halide for the first time after upgrading; you may be shown the user manual on launch, and then prompted for photo library permissions. The surprise release of iOS 14 caught us a bit off guard, and that bug fix didn't make the cut. We promise to do a better job planning around these surprises in the future.
Just a heads up, there's nothing new in this release, but we do have exciting things around the corner. Make sure you're following @halidecamera on Twitter for some exciting announcements in the next few weeks! #HalideMKII

In this update, we've improved flash behavior when shooting manually, which is especially awesome if you have a third-party 'Made for iPhone' flash! We've also squashed a few bugs, and fixed a few crashes.
MANUAL FLASH
Truth me told, most of you aren't using the built-in flash, and we're proud of you. But on-camera flash can be useful in a few rare situations, such as when you need a fill light to compliment your key light. Recently the iPhone added support for third-party external flashes that plug into your lightening port, opening the door to even more advanced lighting techniques.
Unfortunately, when taking photos on an iPhone with Flash enabled, iOS really wants to pick your ISO and shutter speed settings for you. This is great if you want to just point and shoot, but frustrating if you've dialed in specific exposure settings only to have them thrown out.
In this update, when you shoot a photo with manual exposure settings, we manage the flash ourselves rather than allowing iOS to control it.
FIXES GALORE
As always, we're adding fixes to every update. We discovered an edge case where Halide would fail to cleanup backup files, which could cause it to slowly consume disk space. This is fixed, and the next time you launch Halide, it should clean up any of these temporary files lying around.
We've also fixed our top three crashes. Over 99% of all Halide sessions were already crash-free, but every fraction of a percent counts!

Hot on the heels of our last update, we have Halide 1.16.1 with with some new features and improvements.
RAW POWER INTEGRATION
We've added an integration with the photo editor RAW Power. Created by the former director of Apple's Aperture photo editor app, RAW power features tools familiar to former Aperture users.
The RAW Power integration works similar to our previous (and still loved) integration with Darkroom. If you have RAW Power installed on your device, you'll see an icon in the Halide photo reviewer to load the current asset in the app. If you have both RAW Power and Darkroom installed, just long press on the editor icon to choose your preferred editor, and we'll remember that in the future.
As we add more integrations, we’d love to hear what apps you’d like us to integrate with next. Send us an email through our support channel with any suggestions!
FIXES AROUND MANUAL EXPOSURE
After iOS 13, we heard reports that sometimes photos didn't match the manual settings they specified. For example, you might set the shutter to 1/100, only to find the final photo metadata say 1/120. This was really bizarre to us, and we double and triple checked we were doing things correctly on our end.
After much experimentation, we found Smart Processing (Smart HDR, Deep Fusion) might override manual settings. With this update, if you capture in manual exposure mode, we will opt-out of Smart Processing for that shot. If you're shooting in automatic exposure mode, smart processing will remain on. (Unless, of course, you turned it off in advanced settings.)
FEEDBACK
If you have any bug reports, feedback, or suggestion for another editor to support, we'd love to hear it. You can reach us through our support link below, or send us a message on Twitter at @halidecamera. Thank you for your continued support!

Halide 1.16: BETTER RAW, THREE WAYS
In our first big update of 2020, we're releasing new groundwork for better RAWs, a safer shooting experience, and other little things that make your life better.
RESCUE
Sometimes things happen outside your control, like you're shooting at 5% battery and the phone shuts down, losing a photo. Even if these things rarely happen, we want to avoid the slightest chance of losing a photo. That's why we're introducing Rescue.
After you take a photo, we now create a backup copy before save it to your photo library. We only delete that backup once we detect that photo in your library.
If you think you've lost a photo, it's easy to check Rescue. Open the photo reviewer, tap the grid icon in the upper left, and then tap the life preserver icon in the upper right.
SMART RAW IS SMARTER
Based on our research into iOS 13 metering characteristics, we've updated Smart RAW to improve highlight recovery during the data.
FLAT RAW PREVIEWS
Unedited RAWs look a bit dull to the untrained observer. That's why iOS normally post-processes RAWs before presenting them on screen, to add contrast and liveliness. However, this will get in the way of photographers, who are more interested in seeing those unedited pixels! In this update, we render RAWs "Flat", so you can quickly judge the exposure of your photo without having to jump into an editor.
OTHER GROUNDWORK
After taking a photo, we now throttle our system to get your pictured into your camera roll as quickly as possible. This reduces the window where bad things can happen.
We've also significantly reduced peak memory usage in depth mode. This should prevent crashes, and just make us a better iPhone citizen.
FEEDBACK
Thank you for supporting Halide. If you have any issues or general feedback, you can reach out to us via support or just send a message to @halidecamera on Twitter.

We're excited to bring you our Deep Fusion and Smartest Processing update! Deep Fusion will automatically become available when it launches with a future version of iOS. Smartest Processing is available today on iOS 13.1.
Our option to enable Smartest Processing will allow you to shoot with the highest possible quality image processing. This means extra dynamic range and quality when shooting with Smart HDR on iPhone XS or newer.
Note that our new Smartest Processing option requires an iPhone XS or newer, and Deep Fusion requires iPhone 11 or 11 Pro.
Unfortunately, iOS does not allow shooting with both RAW and this extensive image processing. Remember, if you want to shoot in HEIC or JPG, simply off RAW in the QuickBar by tapping the RAW icon.
If you'd like to shoot faster, or this processing just isn't your thing, you can always disable it in "Advanced Settings." This won't affect Halide's own Smart RAW.
What else is new? We have something for everyone: We've fixed issues with depth capture that appeared alongside iOS 13. With this update, we cut down its memory usage to avoid crashes, and tracked down when iOS fails to capture a depth photo altogether. That means faster Depth shots for all iPhones with Depth support and a more stable app. Hooray!
Thank you for supporting us. If you dig this update, consider leaving a review. If you have any issues or feedback, you can reach out to us at support@halide.cam, or ping us on Twitter at @halidecamera and we'll see what we can do. Don't forget to tag your photos #ShotWithHalide to be featured.

THE BIG IPHONE 11 UPDATE
This update takes full advantage of iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.
IPHONE 11 PRO: A TACTILE LENS SWITCHER
We've come up with a fast, intuitive way to switch between the Wide, Ultra Wide, and Telephoto cameras on the iPhone Pro. Of course you can just tap on the lens button in the lower right to cycle through your options, as you've done before. Now you can also Haptic-Touch the button to bring up your choices.
What makes our switcher really unique is that once you're familiar with the menu, you can press-and-flick from the lens button to quickly change lenses. We think this is a fast, natural way to switch lenses, and you'll dig how it feels.
Try swiping up from the switcher to go directly to the 2x lens, or swipe left to get that ultra-wide view on iPhone 11 Pro.
IPHONE 11 PRO: LENS GUIDES
With three cameras, you have even more composition options than ever. With this freedom comes more choices, and our lens guides are here to help you out.
When you tap and hold to open our lens switcher, we show guides in the viewfinder to help you visualize what would get cropped at each focal length.
WIDE ANGLE DEPTH
On both iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, you can now capture depth with the wide angle lens! Just tap the depth button, and then tap the lens button as before.
SMART RAW GOES TO 11
This update features our first version of Smart RAW for iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. Expect us to tweak this in the future to get even better RAW files from these amazing cameras.
NOTE:
You may notice that the ultra wide camera does not support manual focus or RAW capture. This is not a bug. The ultra wide camera has fixed focus. At this time, iOS does not support RAW on that camera. If that changes in the future, we'll absolutely update Halide to support it.
AND MUCH MORE (ALSO FOR NON-IPHONE 11!)
Don’t fret, non-upgraders: we have you covered too. This update brings minor fixes and enhancements for all phones including a whopping speed increase for viewing RAW files in the reviewer.
If you have any feedback about Halide or run into bugs, we're always listening and ready to help. The best way to contact us is support@halide.cam — comments, questions and praise are always welcome.

You may notice that the ultra wide camera does support manual focus or RAW capture.

CUTTING EDGE USERS REJOICE
We’ve been working around the clock to get you this update as soon as we could!

We really appreciate your feedback and comments, so if you run into any issues, please let us know at support@halide.cam, and we'll get right on it.
This is a huge month for us and for iPhones, so stay tuned for exciting bigger updates soon — to support all the shiny new iPhones!

1.12.2

This update makes a ton of small improvements. Highlights include:
* Added Siri Voice Shortcut configuration directly in Halide. Go to "Advanced Settings," and tap "Setup Siri Shortcuts."
* Added a Siri Voice Shortcut to open the reviewer
* Added a Siri Voice Shortcut to launch in selfie mode
* Added a 3D Touch shortcut to open Halide in selfie mode
* Fixed a clipping issue in the Apple Watch app
* Fixed the location setting switch not taking effect right away
Finally, we've cut our download size by 50%. Eight megabytes may not seem like much, but that could fit all of Windows 3.1.
Thank you for supporting Halide! If you like what we're doing, got an issue fixed in this update, or just love the app, consider leaving a review! It helps a lot.
If you have any issues or feedback, please let us know at support@chromanoir.com, and we'll see what we can do.

Halide 1.12 helps you capture better photos with two big improvements.
Smart RAW is now even smarter. We use machine learning to optimize exposure in Auto mode to improve the dynamic range and further reduce noise. We call it Smart RAW v1.5.
We've added a color histogram, to help identify when a single color channel is about to be clipped. No more muddy, washed out roses! To toggle between color and luminance, just tap the histogram. If you want to read more about this and how histograms work, be sure to check our latest post at blog.halide.cam.
Finally, if you love Halide, we're excited to say we're launching another app later this month. Be sure to follow @halidecamera on Twitter for the news. And don't forget to tag your photos #ShotWithHalide. Seeing what you make is the best part of our job.

In Halide 1.11.1, we've fixed an issue with Portrait Effects Matte and improved the AR viewer.
Halide 1.11 is a special update for iPhone XR. Now you you can apply portrait mode to pets and other objects! Just tap 'Depth' to turn on Depth Capture; a portrait blur effect will be applied after you take your photo. You can fine-tune portrait effects in the Photos app.
iPhone XR users also benefit from the Smart RAW feature we release for iPhone XS. When shooting with auto-exposure, we optimize RAW capture for the lowest noise and best dynamic range.
Tag your photos #HalideOnXR and we may feature them!
If you don't have an XR, you'll still benefit from the bug fixes and improvements we made along the way.
Thanks for using Halide, if you enjoy the app, please help us out by rating us on the App Store.

This update fixes a few bugs in HALIDE 1.10: A SPECIAL IPHONE XS UPDATE
In Halide 1.10, we’re launching a new feature called Smart RAW for iPhone XS. After extensively testing the new iPhone in the field in the last few weeks, we’ve built a new automatic logic for exposing and getting the best RAW shots out of the iPhone XS, enabling more detail than ever out of any iPhone camera.
There’s nothing to enable. Just shoot in auto exposure you’ll notice lower noise and better highlight recovery in all your RAW shots. Check out some incredible examples on Instagram by searching for the #SmartRAW hashtag.
VIEW RAW AND JPG PAIRS: Inside our reviewer, we’ve added the option to compare the system JPEG with the RAW.
WATCH APP UPDATES: We’ve updated our watch app to take advantage of the larger screen on the Apple Watch Series 4.
OUR THINNEST APP YET: Finally, we did a little cleaning and cut our app size in half.
Previously, on Halide Season 1:
PORTRAIT EFFECTS MATTE
We're excited to support the new Portrait Effects Matte (PEM). When shooting photos with depth, PEM generate a crisp black-and-white matte alongside the depth data. This dramatically improves background effects, like portrait blur. It has to be seen to be believed, and it's easy! After taking a depth photo, tap the portrait icon to see the black-and-white matte. You'll be amazed by the fine details it captures, like hair.
SIGNATURE HALIDE PORTRAIT BLUR
With the help of Portrait Effects Matte, we've developed our own custom blur, unique from the iOS camera's portrait effect. It adds the lush bokeh you expect from a traditional camera.
SUPERCHARGED PERFORMANCE
Our viewfinder is now powered entirely by Apple's latest graphics technology, Metal. This will save battery, and pave the way for exciting new features in the works. And since our last major update, we've cut memory by as much as 80%. This speeds up launches and make your whole phone feel faster.
SIRI SHORTCUTS AND VOICE TRIGGER
Halide 1.9 integrates with Siri Shortcuts. Take a lot of photos at sunset? Siri will learn this and start suggesting Halide in search and on your lock screen.
But we're really excited about the Siri powered Voice Trigger. Take a shot by saying, "Hey Siri, fire the shutter." This is great for remote shots, like group photos. You can enable this feature in Settings.
TECHNICAL READOUT
Curious about the nitty gritty details of your phone's cameras? We now give you a report of system-level information. Access Technical Readout in Settings.
SUPPORT FOR NEW IPHONES
Halide is ready to be used with your new phone out of the gate, with a tweaked landscape UI, extra-large last shot thumbnail and its entire user interface easily reachable with just one hand. And check out Technical Readout section to see how much it's improved!
AND BEYOND IOS 12:
Wide Color Rendering – When using depth mode or focus peaking, you'll notice vibrant, richer color. While we've always supported wide-color photos, what you see in the viewfinder will now more accurately represent the final image.
Smart Inversion – We invest in accessibility with every release. In this update we support smart-inversion, which inverts the colors of an app to help the visually impaired.
If you enjoy this update, consider rating us. If you run into any issues, we're always listening at support@halide.cam.

1.8.5
2018-07-26
This update fixes a few bugs when using the volume buttons to capture a photo. We've also improved the accuracy of the live histogram; it better calculates luminosity, and takes into account gamma compression. Finally, we've fixed our top crash.
Is there a bug still bothering you? Just have some feedback? Let us know support@halide.cam.

HALIDE 1.8: IT’S ABOUT TIME
This big update adds an Apple Watch companion app to remotely preview and take shots, a self-timer, and a completely redesigned photo review that makes it easy to go back in time. We also did a ton of work on accessibility to make our app usable for more people.
APPLE WATCH
You can now use your watch as a remote trigger— with a live preview! Whether you want to be in a group photo or want to avoid camera shake during a long exposure, Halide is now available from your wrist. To use, just open Halide on your phone and then open the Halide Apple Watch app. It's really that easy.
SELF-TIMER
If you don’t have an Apple Watch, use the self-timer to take a photo with a delay. To help with group photos, the LED on the back of your iPhone flashes as it counts down. Look for a timer icon in the Quick Bar as well as the shutter button countdown. Forgot the timer was on? Just tap on the shutter again to cancel.
REDESIGNED REVIEWER
We’re adding a grid-view option in our photo reviewer, similar to the built in photos app. We’ve also changed things so swiping horizontally changes photos. Despite this added view, you can still get back to your camera with a swipe; just swipe down to get back to the viewfinder instantly. Finally, we’ve sped things up for users with gigantic libraries.
ACCESSIBILITY
We care a lot about accessibility, and in previous updates we already did a lot to make Halide more usable to everyone. This update is our biggest accessibility push yet, with support for Dynamic Type, VoiceOver improvements and much more. Our camera, photo reviewer, and settings reflect the font size you’ve set in iOS Settings. We’ve also improved how things look when “bold text” is enabled in system settings. As always, this update includes small UI improvements (we keep polishing this gem!) and bug fixes.
If you love Halide, be sure to rate us! We don’t prompt for reviews, so every bit helps, and good reviews really help us a ton.
Til next time!

1.8.4
2018-07-13
We've significantly improved performance by using less memory. This fixes a crash in Depth Mode, and if you use Halide regularly you'll see it open faster! We've also fixed a bug in image loading, and a few other odds and ends.
Is there a bug still bothering you? Just have some feedback? Email support@halide.cam and we'll look right into it.

On iOS 11.3, you can now capture RAW photos with flash. We've also fixed a rare crashing issue, and random failures when taking depth photos.
HALIDE 1.7: THE DEPTH UPDATE
This update turns Halide into a revolutionary depth camera. It now features portrait mode, realtime depth previews, a robust depth reviewer, and an amazing AR viewer. Let's dive in!
I. BUILT-IN PORTRAIT MODE
We now include Portrait Mode directly within Halide! We preserve the original, un-blurred photo in your camera roll as well, so you can always apply your own effects.
II. TRUE DEPTH CAMERA SUPPORT
Thanks to recent updates in iOS, we can now fully support the True Depth camera. The wait was worth it, because the results are amazing.
III. NEW DEPTH VISUALIZATIONS
Shooting depth can be tricky, which makes realtime visualizations invaluable. In addition to "Depth Peaking," we've added two new options! To visualize portrait-mode photos, we've added "Portrait Preview." For difficult situations where you need to see gritty details, we now have a live Depth Map view.
IV. ROBUST DEPTH REVIEW
We’ve revamped our photo reviewer. You can now toggle the portrait effect on or off, view the depth-map, and even export the Depth Map as a PNG you can load in an image editor.
V. AR REVIEW
Depth shots are essentially 3D captures. Through the power of AR, we now have a perfect 3D viewing experience. Trust us, it’s very cool. If you get some cool screen recordings of your shots in this mode, we’d love to see them, so do share!
BONUS: DARKROOM INTEGRATION
Within the reviewer, you can now open a photo in Darkroom with a single tap. In Darkroom, there’s now a top-level button that sends you to Halide.
LITTLE THINGS
As always, we've included tons of small improvements and bug fixes. The screen no longer sleeps while you're shooting, you can send DNGs to the DropBox app, and check out a few new animations.
THANK YOU
We hope you love Halide as much as we love making it. If you like this update, consider rating us. We never prompt for reviews, so every rating helps!

HALIDE 1.6: THE SPEED UPDATE
Our latest update is about speed. We’ve added shortcuts, snap photos faster, and taken the guesswork out of files and formats to make you more efficient. Let’s dive in!
LOCK SCREEN AND 3D TOUCH SHORTCUTS
By popular demand, we’ve added a lock screen widget to launch Halide with one tap. We’ve added 3D shortcuts to launch the app in either Manual or Auto mode.
FASTER CAPTURE
Everything feels a lot more responsive, as we’ve cut down the time between hitting the capture button and the new photo appearing. Now you immediately know when you’ve captured the perfect shot.
RAW WITHOUT COMPROMISE
When you open a RAW image in an app that can’t read RAW, the image looks blurry. We can’t fix those apps, but we’re improving the situation. Apps that aren’t compatible will now fall-back to a processed image we save alongside your RAW. You can turn this off within Advanced Settings.
RAW ALBUM
After a day full of shooting, we know it’s annoying to sort through your camera roll to find the favorite photos you want to edit. To speed things up, RAW photos are now added to a “RAW” album in your camera roll.
ADVANCED FORMAT OPTIONS AND TIFF CAPTURE
By popular demand, we’ve added a few advanced format options within Settings. If you’re worried about compatibility with HEIC, switch from “Most Efficient” to “Most Compatible” and Halide will use JPEG.
In situations where Halide can’t shoot RAW, we offer MAX mode, which saves a HEIC or JPEG in the highest quality setting. We now also have TIFF! It’s lossless, but uses 3x the storage.
ACCESSIBILITY
Halide is the first manual camera app to support VoiceOver, Apple’s assistive technology for the visually impaired. If you or anyone you know relies on VoiceOver, we’d appreciate your feedback, and we’d love to hear how you’re using the app. Please email us at support@halide.cam.
ERGONOMIC IMPROVEMENTS ON IPHONE X
We've fine-tuned the placement of controls on iPhone X, to improve thumb access. You probably can't see it, but it makes a big difference.
FEEDBACK? QUESTIONS?
If you enjoy Halide, consider leaving a review. We don’t prompt for reviews in the app, so every little bit helps. If you have any issues or questions, just email support@halide.cam and we’ll get right on it. Thanks for your support!
1.5.2
2017-11-18
This update fixes a few bugs and crashes. If you still have problems, please email support@halide.cam, and we'll get right on it!
This update includes all the features from 1.5.0, including a completely new UI for iPhone X. All camera controls now sit within thumb’s reach, letting you easily shoot with just one hand. This new design uses every pixel of the new edge-to-edge screen, so nothing obstructs the viewfinder, giving you a uniquely unobstructed look at your subject. Every screen was further polished and designed from scratch for the iPhone X.
Under the hood, we ensured Halide works perfectly with the new cameras on iPhone X. Halide 1.5 captures Depth, letting you apply Portrait effects to your captured photos in the Photos app, and manual focus lets you see the new f/2.4 aperture on the iPhone X telephoto lens in all its glory.
We’ve made several improvements on older iPhones, too, to provide a more ergonomic experience.
1.5.1
2017-11-08
We've worked around some issues with RAW in iOS 11.1, and improved the overall stability of the app.
If you're on a beta version of iOS, and you're having issues, please let us know at support@halide.cam. Unfortunately, we can't fix beta issues yet, but we'll make sure it's fixed when we can!
