Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck 2.9 introduces a control bar that more aligns with your workflow. You no longer need to switch first between the Terminal Charts View and the Enroute View before you interact with the information you need most. The integrated design of the control bar provides you with direct access to your terminal charts for the active flight, as well as identifies the enroute theme that will display when you switch to the enroute map by tapping the button.

The refreshed design also includes a new location of the Present Position button which is now on the enroute map itself. As always, tapping the Present Position button re-centers the map over your aircraft position whenever you have panned away.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck is highly recommended for iPad 2 and later. If you are using iPad 1 with this application, it is highly recommended that the terrain data layer be turned off within the application filters for optimal use.

✈ Smaller Application Download. In previous versions, worldwide terrain and cultural data were bundled with the application increasing the size of the initial download to 700MB. Now, there is only a small subset available in the initial download to support the DEMO mode. Worldwide terrain and cultural data will be downloaded initially and when an update is available when checking for Updates.

✈ Cancel button added when downloading data. The Cancel button allows you to cancel your download if you think the update will take too long for your current availability. You will then be able to continue using the data that is already installed. The Cancel button will only be available if you are updating already existing data. The Cancel button will not be available if this is the first time downloading the data (an initial download), if required data is missing from the app, or if you are in the unpacking stage of the install process.

✈ View mid-cycle terminal chart changes 24 hours before the effective time. The expired chart will still be available for viewing up to 24 hours after it is expired. Terminal charts that have a mid-cycle change will display "2>" in the terminal charts list where you can select the chart you want to view. An alert sash will display on the terminal chart if you are viewing a chart that is not effective.

✈ Display an upcoming enroute cycle by going to the Updates window, and tapping the "2>" to display the slide-out window. An alert sash will display on the enroute chart if you are viewing an enroute database that is not effective.

✈ Terminal Charts: Zoom level is persistent between sessions. Chart zoom levels are now persisted within a session and when the app is force quit. Their state is maintained along with the rotation and highlighting information. It resets to the default zoom level when the chart changes from a Terminal Chart update.

✈ Updated the terminal chart categories. Terminal Chart Categories were updated to match those of customer feedback.

✈ Downloading Individual Weather Types. In the weather pop-up, there are selection buttons available allowing you to choose the types of weather you want to download.

v 2.0
Nov 7, 2012
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do not download right before a flight until you have had proper time to review the changes and new workflow. Performance of weather is reduced on iPad 1. Application is recommended for iPad 2 and later.

New Capabilities
➣ New Framework. The application received a face-lift in response to customer feedback, and making room for new capabilities, such as weather. You are urged to spend some time with the new framework before flying.

➣ Optimized for iOS6 and high-resolution Retina display.

➣ Weather. With an Internet connection, the application can download Icing, Echo Tops, Lightning, Surface Observations, Turbulence and Winds Aloft.

➣ Display Route Mileage. Total flight distance is seen in the route drawer when a route is created.

➣ Night Theme. A true night theme was added to reduce the brightness of your screen. The setting is accessible on the brightness control.

➣ JeppFD v2.0 supports standard SID / STARs - ones that have a transition point as part of the SID / STAR. At this time JeppFD does not support, in general, any SID or STAR such as a Vector SID or some RNAV STARs that do not have a transition into or out of an airport.

➣ Navigate to Airport Diagram from the Airport Object Details. From the airport properties on the enroute chart, a selection was added to view the airport 10-9 chart immediately without having to do a search on the terminal charts view.

➣ In the Terminal Charts View, new chart selection were added to help you find your charts and set up your chart clip more quickly and efficiently than the previous 'favorites' model.

➣ Charts are filtered by "Recently Viewed" to help you find the charts that you access often.

➣ Rotate a Terminal Chart. A toolbar was added to the terminal charts view allowing you to rotate the viewed terminal chart by 90 degrees. The rotated chart will stay rotated through a force quit and restart.

➣ Highlighting on Terminal Charts. A highlight capability was added to the terminal charts view. Highlights are saved until an update is downloaded that changes the chart in some manner. Highlights are supported in Night Mode. Highlights are rotated with the chart.

➣ Import your active MyFlitePlan Online routes.

➣ WIFI flight plan to/from Aspen Avionics. JeppFD will communicate through Aspen Avionic’s WiFi systems allowing JeppFD to send routes back and forth to the panel mounted GPS that the Aspen unit talks to, and also gets the GPS location information from the GPS. In order for this feature to work, you need the following hardware:
✈ An iPad running JeppFD v2.0, which sends wireless requests to the GC100
✈ An Aspen CG100 wireless receiver, which receives the requests and passes them along to the Aspen EFD
✈ An Aspen EFD (1, 2, or 3 units) which validates the request, and sends or retrieves information from the panel mounted GPS
✈ A GPS (such as a Garmin 430/530) which contains routes, and has the current aircraft position.

Improvements
➣ Improved the terminal chart image quality.
➣ Updated the FIR/UIR/Comm sector altitudes for object details
➣ Runways of Approach charts now organized by runway

What is coming next? We have lots of plans for next year to improve upon the features and functionality of Jeppesen FD. We want to include more weather selections such as Nexrad, SIGMETS and AIRMETS. We are also researching additional weather providers to help make our application a more robust system. Some other capabilities include: VFR enroute theme, VFR manuals, ADS-B, TFR's and much more.
