Through prayer a Jew pours out his heart to his Creator thanking Him for His many kindnesses and asking Him for help in his daily tasks. One of the main goals of prayer is to remember Jerusalem daily and ask for it to be rebuilt. That's why wherever a Jew finds himself he has to pray facing Jerusalem as "Jerusalem is the light of the whole world".
