This major upgrade introduces direct video file streaming to TV, a new user interface making the app easier to use and more efficient, and a number of new features.
1. Play video files directly on TV
If you are playing a video file and don't actually need Mac screen mirroring, streaming the file directly is a better option than playing it on Mac and mirroring the screen, for the following reasons:
•The file playback is likely to be more stable, have no interruptions. This is because a file is not a live source, while the computer screen is. Thus file streaming is much more tolerant to the local network speed and reliability, as well as to the computer CPU load.
•The CPU load is much lower when streaming a video file, because the application doesn't need to perform real-time video encoding.
•If your file has a standard 16:9 aspect ratio, it will fill perfectly the TV screen. When playing it on a Mac screen first, the apect ratio changes, and black borders appear on the TV (or the image must be stretched).
The majority of the common video file formats are supported.
2. The new user interface
We have completely redesigned the application user interface. The new modern user interface provides a better look and feel, and easier and faster access to all the settings.
3. Mirror any window instead of the full screen
You can now mirror any open application window to the TV, instead of the full computer screen. Even if this window is hidden, minimised to the Dock, or resides on a different Mission Control space. This enables you to use the computer and the TV screens for different purposes at the same time.
4. Scale the display to fill the TV screen
Because the screen aspect ratios are different, the application normally adds black borders when mirroring the Mac screen to the TV screen. Now you have the option to stretch the computer screen instead.
