Money Up! - Build Life Skills Description
Looking for an ACCESSIBLE app to teach or reinforce how to use money in real life situations? Money Up is the perfect app for children learning to handle money, kids, teens and adults with developmental disabilities as well as for therapists who work with stroke survivors, those in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, and more.

Money Up was designed by teachers and therapists as a way for people to practice working out how much money they have, if they have enough to purchase the items they need and how much money to give a cashier, all without requiring them to count change. The app’s goal is to help children, teens and adults to acquire or maintain a life skill they need in order to foster independence.

The app currently supports the following currencies:

• Australian dollar
• Canadian dollar
• U.S. dollar
• British Pound
• Euro
• New Zealand dollar
• Singaporean dollar

In addition to teaching the ‘Dollar Up’ technique, seven games provide the user with practice using it in the following situations:

• Identifying notes and coins
• How much to pay when shown a price total
• How much to pay when told a price total
• Checking how much money they have
• Working out how much money to hand over
• Paying for items
• Calculating if they have enough money to pay for items

For those who plan to use Money Up in an educational or therapeutic context, we have included many desirable features in the app including:

• Supports iPad Accessibility!
• Support for multiple students or clients
• The ability to customize the app to suit each user’s needs
• Data tracking, including reports that can be shared via email
• For children (or adults!) who want or need a fun break there are two mini games included in the app
• Support for students who's vision is impaired, through the use of high contrast backgrounds (selectable for each student).
• A complete grocery list editor. Choose your own groceries that suit your school.
• Add groceries from the camera roll, or the web via a paste operation.
• Add groceries using the built-in iPad camera.
• Five friendly characters with which to interact!
• Support for both English and Spanish languages

All aspects of Money Up have been designed to make it as accessible as possible and initial feedback from parents, teachers and therapists has been extremely positive:

"The lesson content is the important thing. It really has been useful for us. One student on the money program went from getting nowhere to almost mastering it in a fortnight, and when I asked her, she had been playing it in her free time."

"My [autistic] 16 year old just learned the method in 2 goes. I'm showing his teacher next week!!"

"Smooth design, no glitching, no need for a manual as I was able to get it started and working with the kids in minutes."

Rated at 4.5 Stars by The iMums who think that "Money Up! is a valuable tool to have for those who want to teach their student the dollar up method and help them become more independent".

When someone writes to ask for a new feature, I listen. When I can add the new feature I do.

Today I was asked for a new option to disable the "error" sound so that some students who don't react well to such sounds can turn them off without affecting the rest of the app.

This update adds that option!

If you like Money Up and it's helpful to you, please let me know via email, or even better, via a review in the App Store. Let others know how much it has helped!

* A new name! Money Up! is for everyone, not just people that use the "Dollar" as a currency. Money Up has always supported multiple currencies and it was time to make that more obvious.

* A new look! Money Up! has been completely revamped with new artwork to freshen the look of the app, make it simpler to use and hopefully help you learn.

* New voices and new characters! Now, you can choose from 5 bright new characters, each with their own voice and personality to help you with your lessons.

* Updated help documentation, all within the app!

* Bug fixes; yes, like everyone else, we have bugs too.

If you love the new Money Up, and I hope you do, please take a few minutes to post a review and rate it in the App Store; this helps other people discover the app.

ACCESSIBILITY! YES, you asked for it, and now it's here!

Dollar Up is now fully accessible, supporting the iPad's wonderful VoiceOver and Switch Control API as completely as possible.

We've even reworked the Balloon Pop reward game to be accessible.

While we've been at it, we've also fixed a few minor issues relating to the default student profile.

There was also a funny bug in the 4th lesson that prevented help being shown if sound was turned off.

All lessons are enabled by default now.

In lessons 5 and 6 you can now tap on coins and notes to return them to the bottom of the screen. You don't have to clear the entire answer anymore! Yay!

Major update providing lots of new options and features:

• There is now a second page to the student profile that accommodates a number of new options.
• NEW STUDENT OPTION: That allows you to use taps instead of drags in lessons to select notes/coins.
• NEW STUDENT OPTION: That allows you to place labels underneath all of the most important buttons in the app.
• NEW STUDENT OPTION: That will cause the value of a note or coin to be spoken when it is selected in several of the lessons.
• NEW STUDENT OPTION: That will slow both of the reward games down by about 50%, making them easier to play for some students.
• NEW STUDENT OPTION: You can now change to one of three alternate backgrounds that provide a better contrast to the various buttons and visual components of Dollar Up.
• NEW STUDENT OPTION: When "Show prices on screen" is enabled, you can also specify that the price be the amount only, and not the spoken sentence.
• The main menu screen has been reworked significantly to emphasise the most important buttons.
• The "Help" button has been redesigned to be more intuitive.
• When you edit the default student, a notice is shown to highlight and explain this.
• Notices can now be swiped away.
• Lots of changes to make the transitions between scenes in the app smoother.

If you like Dollar Up, please take the time to give us a nice review; it really helps.
