About Monuments Project

The Monuments Project app rewards you for visiting the places associated with World War One service members, including their burial sites at Suresnes American Cemetery in France. Learn the untold stories of World War One, collect points, and redeem them for discounted entry into the Musée de la Grande Guerre.

The Monuments Project is an attempt to crowdsource the research of and storytelling about World War One service members buried in American cemeteries abroad. Where did these individuals come from? Where did they serve? What did they experience? How can we tell their stories better and what can we learn about the time period by looking at that period through their lens?

The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) maintains these cemeteries. Many of the commemorated individuals' stories remain untold. The Monuments Project will engage students from around the world in this challenge, utilizing local and digital archives to find what evidence they can and share it with the world.

How the Monuments Project App Works
Point collection and redemption requires internet connectivity – either via cellular or Wi-Fi connection.

Create an Account
Creating an account allows you to collect and redeem points.

Explore
The Explore button takes you to a map, which has pins indicating places of interest where you can collect points. Clicking on each pin on the map gives you more information about that location.

Collect Points
Locations are assigned a point value, which can be collected when you are within GPS range of a location and have a connection to the internet. Pushing the “Collect Points” button while physically visiting a location will add the location’s points to your point total. To keep earning points, explore more locations. You can track your point total on your Account page.

Redeem Rewards
Once you collect enough points, those points can be redeemed for rewards at Rewards Locations. Hitting the “Redeem Rewards” button while physically at a Rewards Location will bring up a key pad for a member of staff to enter a code to deduct points from your point total in exchange for your reward. You must have an internet connection in order to redeem points.

Share with Friends
Find a place you want to let others know about? The Share button on each location’s page allows you to share information about that place via your social media channels.
