Just washing the windows and waxing the floors (both things I've never done in a literal sense but spend a great deal of time doing in a figurative one).

I miss you Branden. Everything that is new in this update would undoubtedly have been better with you in the pilot seat. To our users: if you like this app enough to review it, aim some kind words in Branden's direction. Because he is likely responsible for the stuff you like.

With that, some datapoints:
- We now support multiple stores in the app. Select which one you want to order from at the top of the menu.
- We also added support for promo codes in the app.

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, woah hold up what happened to version 4.13? You're thinking, did I saunter past an invisible black hole, causing time to move more slowly for me than for Mt. Joy and resulting in my having missed an entire app update?

In New York City (and possibly other places too, but I speak from personal experience), if someone tells you to take the elevator to the 13th floor of a building, there's a reasonable chance you are the victim of a prank. Because many of the elevators in the city have no 13 button in them at all.

Why is that, you ask? Once you figure that out, you may also know why we went from 4.12 to 4.14.

As I scoured my brain for something meaningful to say here, it occurred to me that this note has already been written. In fact, every update note I'll ever write, word for word, has already been written. And it gets weirder: every note I've ever written, including this one, has been published online for some time now. Don't believe me? I can prove it:

https://mtjoy.com/woah

Woah is right. And if you're still here, 'this is another under-the-hood update' is what I'm trying to say.

Dear Future Teammate,

One of the challenges of being a company's sole engineer is remembering to build with empathy for those who will one day inherit your code. In truth, this is something most of us struggle with regardless of the size of our team, but it's much easier to overlook when you're alone.

Since Mt. Joy's first popup in October 2022, I have been able to go fast - sometimes too fast - because I've never had to explain how any of this works to anyone. But soon we will open our first location, I will add my first teammate, and this technology organization will transition from infancy to adolescence. In preparation, I am combing through this codebase to make it easy, safe, and - dare I say - fun to work with.

So while our users may not see anything new in this version, this is how we ensure they get all the new stuff in the future.

Warmest regards,
Justin

There should be two "What's New" fields: one for first-time users and another for updaters. Because if you're a first-timer, everything in this version is new to you, and "bug fixes" is the wrong red carpet to roll out. Arguably, it is the wrong messaging regardless of who you are. But I digress. All I can tell you is this version might just make your wildest dreams come true.

When I was younger and less refined, I used to do this "card trick" when I found myself with a new group of people. The trick went like this: I'd ask someone to place their hand on the deck and think of a card and then I'd tell them what their card was (the deck was really just a prop).

How did it work? Simple: it didn't. To be more precise, it only worked ~1 in 52 times, because I was just guessing. But this one time, I actually guessed correctly and stunned everyone in the room.

And that's sort of how it feels when I release an update to this app ahead of each pop-up event we do. So if you haven't been stunned yet, this release introduces a Live Activity for tracking your order status on the day of the event that is engineered to stun.

The year is 1999. The event, a high school talent show. On to the stage wanders a timid boy with his guitar. He closes his eyes and performs Crash by Dave Matthews Band. As the song ends, he slowly lifts his eyelids to reveal an audience on its feet, hands clapping. He walks off the stage experiencing - perhaps for the first time in his life - what confidence feels like.

At least that's how I remember it. I do sometimes wonder what specific feedback the audience might have given me if they'd had a way to offer it.

I also wonder what feedback our guests might have given us if our feedback link worked after our popup event had ended. While I may never know what the audience really thought of my DMB cover, this update ensures I will never have to wonder what customers thought about their Mt. Joy experience going forward.

There's a crack in everything; that's how the light gets in. Nevertheless, I continue to try to fill the cracks. This update fills a crack where customers who placed multiple orders were only seeing one in the order status view.

I have to say, these app updates notes are my favorite social media app. No likes, no comments; almost certainly no viewers. I believe such a thing was once known as a diary. Anyhoo, now you have additional flexibility for updating your reservation slot.

Sometimes I wonder how bad the cover must have been on the book that gave rose to the expression "don't judge a book by its cover." Pretty bad I imagine. In any case, you're welcome to judge this app by its new icon, because it looks delicious.

Have you seen that episode of The Bear where the ticket printer is blowing up? This update fixes bugs to avoid that happening for us.

You know who I'd bet had no bugs in their code? Hammurabi, that's who. Especially not a bug where tax is incorrectly displayed, as I have fixed here in this update.
1.7 2022-10-12
You know it's not the same as it was. As it was contained a bug we found; as it is only contains bugs we've not.

This update - which fixes bugs during checkout - is made possible by my incredible wife. Without her help this week, none of these updates would be possible.

As the bugs appear, we continue to squash. That's what this update is all about.
