About Nature Passport
Nature Passport helps kids, families and classes play, explore, and learn outdoors. Research shows that time spent outdoors improves mental and physical health , learning and memory, and reduces stress. The app can be used by families and by teachers interested in taking classroom learning outdoors.
Designed by experts in outdoor play and experiential education, the app uses simple games and lessons to encourage kids to think, move, observe, collaborate and create in nature.
Nature Passport was designed for children ages 7 to 10, but can be enjoyed by adults and children of any age. It can be used in any environment, from backyards to city parks to beaches and woods.
Highlights include:
* Dozens of Outdoor Play, Exploration, and Learning Activities: The app contains team-based activities with interactive widgets that allow users to record their experiences and observations. Activities can be filtered by type of environment, season, duration, and difficulty.
* Safari Function to Promote Discovery of Nearby Nature: This feature encourages users to look for nature around them and record observations.
* A Journal that Catalogs Memories: The Journal keeps a timeline of every completed activity and Safari. It automatically records participants, badges earned, and any photos, videos, notes, or measurements captured.
Nature Passport was created by two nonprofits: IslandWood, from Washington State, and Nature Play WA, from Western Australia.
