On the whole, the 2.4.x line of releases hasn't been our most stable yet. Sorry for the inconvenience of constant updates, but we're trying to work hard on making the app stable before we all go on a Christmas break :)

It took us a while, but we are finally going across the finish line today.

# Feature Shortlist

• BLE Peripheral Client and Server: you can now setup your device not only to Advertise, but also to respond with Services, Characteristic(s) and Descriptor(s), which you can also Indicate or Notify back to any connected Central(s).

• Import XML (Peripheral) Server(s)

• UI Changes throughout the app
• Copy Characteristic/Descriptor Value

• Much Better On-screen Keyboard Handling

2.3.2 2020-07-24
We are ready to begin working on new features. But first, we made efforts to work on something one can never have enough of: speed and efficiency!!

# Feature Shortlist

• Internal State Data Changes Are Now Compressed on iOS 13 and newer (smaller compressed data, less to write, more time to do other things or save battery)
• Fixed the List of “Logs” seen when choosing a file to perform a DFU update (these were old nRF Connect 1.x files)

2.3.1 2020-07-09
We worked so hard and made so many changes in version 2.3 that the amount and cause of crash reports plus errors caused by the new soft dependency on Online Resources was not to our liking. So we worked hard to refine version 2.3.1, and bring it back up to the standards you expect from us.

# Feature Shortlist
• Online Resources Settings Section
• Reworked (yet Again) ‘What’s New’ Dialog, now loosening an external dependency for a Markdown parser.

2.3 2020-06-23
You asked for them! You asked for them so much, that we dedicated a full release just for it. Logging is back !

# Feature Shortlist

• Logs
• Export Logs; this allows you to export Advertising Data or RSSI Data of a device you’ve scanned.
• Scanner Device Selection: in RSSI, on an iPhone, tapping on a Device selects it, rather than open it. You can now do the same from the Scanner tab by tapping on a Device’s icon.
• Native iPad Mouse/Trackpad Support (requires iOS 13.4)
• Redesigned Scanner Filter User Interface.
• New “Exclusive” Scanner Filters: old Filters are now named ‘Inclusive’, because they decide which devices are added, whereas Exclusive filters decide which ones to remove.
• DFU McuMgr Swap Time Setting.

• Online UUID Repository: Check https://github.com/NordicSemiconductor/bluetooth-numbers-database if you’d like to add GATT Attributes to the online Database nRF Connect queries on startup.

2.2.1 2020-04-24
nRF Connect for iOS 2.2.1

To keep you entertained until our next major release, here's a, not-so-minor, release :) Stay safe!

Features
• Redesigned Device Details: Rather than using custom animations and transitions, we've opted to rely on iOS' standard modal transitions, which means that in small devices, the User Interface has a lot more space to breathe.
• Support for Imported Folders: In the previous version, our Imported Files UI only allowed you to see top-level items and folders. Now you can see files within sub-folders without any limits.
• New Default Scanner Setting: On new installations and resets, the Scanner will not stop when opening Device Details.

As usual, there are a myriad of other smaller changes, fixes and details that make nRF Connect easier and more comfortable to use. These are no less important than our headline features, but you can read about them better in our What's New screen. You can open it up at anytime by going to Settings and tapping on the Version Number cell.

nRF Connect for iOS 2.2

Yes, we're late. We know. In our defense though, this version is so jam-packed with features, fixes and changes that we think you'll find it hard to complain indeed!

Features

• New nRF Connect DFU Support: Some Nordic-based devices use a new platform for their software, which we didn't support yet to perform Device Firmware Update (DFU) operations. Now we do.
• DFU File Drag & Drop Support: Tired of plugging in your device to a Mac and manually copying multiple files into it? Us, too. So now, you can drag & drop multiple DFU files from your iPad's files app into nRF Connect. Try it!
• DFU File Management: Tired too, of having to connect to a device capable of receiving a DFU update to check what files have imported? Not anymore! Check out the new Imported Files option under Settings -> General.
• DFU File Deletion: You can now delete any of the imported ZIP files used to perform Device Firmware Update(s). Try it out the next time you find yourself seeing the list of imported DFU packages :)
• System Icons: You might've noticed that in the past we've used our custom set of icons to represent ZIP package files and so on. Now we use iOS' system icons, making nRF Connect feel a lot more integrated with the rest of the apps in your device.
• What's New Screen: No need to check Release Notes in the App Store anymore to see how your favorite iOS BLE Scanner tool evolves version after version.

As usual, there are a myriad of big changes, fixes and details that make nRF Connect easier and more comfortable to use. These are no less important than our headline features, but you can read about them better in our What's New screen.

2.1.2 2020-01-23
We are getting ready to perform big changes to nRF Connect for the coming year. However, before we get into those, we’d like to improve the current stability of version 2.1.1, so here’s a small update.

# Features
• DFU - Selection of Number of Packages Received before sending Notification: Before 2.1.1, it was only possible to enable or disable PRNs. Now you can set them yourself.
• Internal nRF Connect Logic persistence is now under full device encryption - i.e. protected!
• Check out our nRF Connect Blog from the About Section in Settings! We write a lot of cool stuff!

# Fixes

• Crash: The highest cause for crashes in 2.1.1 concerned an open ServiceSelection Dialog after rotation, at which point its underlying Advertiser was removed from the internal state logic, therefore causing a crash. We’ve reworked our code and also strengthened our tests in this area.
• Fix: Much better usability on small devices for the write Characteristic or Descriptor Dialog.
• Fix: Write Without Response Setting was previously not respected when writing to a Characteristic or Descriptor.
• Fix: You can now safely rotate your device with an open Advertiser Service Selection Dialog.
• Fix: All Dialogs now react better to screen rotation, keeping their bounds within the screen’s dimensions.
• Fix: It is now safe to rotate nRF Connect with an open Settings Dialog. Before, the Dialog would be cleared and its state lost.

• Fix: 'Colored Advertising Indicators' Setting was not respected by the Scanner's RSSI indicator in each cell.

2.1.1 2019-12-10
Christmas and the New Year are approaching very, very fast. So to top-off this incredible year for nRF Connect, we're preparing a small, but sweet update.

# Features
• Order-of-Magnitude Improvement When Switching to Graph Tab: Before 2.1.1, switching from a different tab back to the Graph, especially when the Scanner has been going on for a few seconds or there are many devices, would take a large amount of seconds to populate the graph. Now it’s much, much faster.
• Enabled Cross-Transport Key Derivation under iOS 13

• Device Names shown to the user now also read from the Device’s Advertised Appearance.

• In iOS 13, we now also use SF Symbols for switching between devices
• The ‘Scanner State’ and ‘Advertiser State’ Sections no longer feature a ‘Copy to Clipboard’ button but instead use the new ‘Share’ Button on the top-right corner.

# Fixes

• Crash: Inconsistent selected device indexes received by the Device Switcher Bar causing an out-of-bounds access and its corresponding stack trace.
• Crash: RSSI Graph could be set with an upper bound lower than its lower bound when refreshing / beginning a scan.
• Fix: Switching between devices now causes the DFU Screen’s Root ViewController to update. Previously, this was not happening. How embarrassing!
• Fix: Enabled DFU Support for Devices with Service ‘8E400001-F315-4F60-9FB8-838830DAEA50’
• Fix: Added Missing DFU Service UUIDs.
• Fix: DFU Progress Reporting is now a lot more consistent (no more ‘back to zero progress’ when switching parts)
• Fix: With Bluetooth Scanning turned Off, changing the Scanner’s Filter did not cause the UI to reflect the newly filtered/unfiltered devices.
• Fix: The String for each Characteristic Property was misaligned with its corresponding String, so the text that appeared on-screen did not reflect the correct property.

2.1 2019-11-15
Here it is! The big release you were waiting for with… roll of drums please… DARK MODE !

# Features

• Full Adoption of iOS 13’s new Dark Mode across the app
• Refined the Scanner’s color palette under iOS 13 to use Apple’s new system colors
• Improved design of the Settings Screen in iOS 13 (use of inset_grouped style)
• Introduced Apple’s new SF Symbols when running under iOS 13
• Redesigned Settings’ Screen under iOS 13
• Automatic Advertiser Naming
• Added an extra ‘Configuration’ Section in the Advertiser’s Screen to inform the user that the Advertiser’s AdvInterval and TxPower levels cannot be set manually, and that iOS promises to advertise in a ‘best effort’ manner.
• Service Characteristic Descriptors are now scanned, parsed and shown to the user.
• Added Support for Properly Parsing all four Eddystone Frame Types (UID, URL, TLM and EID) and Eddystone UUIDs.
• The “Package Selection” DFU Screen now detects Folders, and orders the list of shown elements prioritizing ZIP files.
• The “Ready to Upload” DFU Screen’s now pipes the DFU process logs into its Text Element.
• The “Ready to Upload” DFU Screen now allows Sharing/Exporting the contents of the DFU Log.
• New “Error” State added as part of the DFU pipeline, allowing the user to see the logs of the DFU Update if it fails.
• Device Beacon Data is now parsed instead of computed on-the-fly, so it can now be seen as part of the Scanner State (Settings -> Privacy -> Scanner State)

# Fixes

• Logic: The Device Switcher UI just above the TabBar was not switching properly between all of the selected devices.
• Logic: If the same Label and Image UI Component was shown multiple times, it’d throw off the Animation’s timing.
• Crash Fix: If a DFU Update failed and the user toggled the visibility of the Device Details pane, it would previously leave the App in an inconsistent state regarding the selected device, causing a crash.
• UI: The colors you saw in the lists of scanned devices in both the Scanner and Graph tabs were "supposed" to look random, but weren't.
• UI: When Disconnecting from a Device, the Action Buttons now Disappear.
• UI: More things that don't fit here!
• Performance: Drastically improved battery consumption of the Graph Tab (50% reduction)
• Performance: Unified Threading Pipelines for the Event, Filesystem and BLE subsystems, freeing up the Events pipeline to listen to the user faster as well as greatly reducing the chances for the app to cause a Thread Explosion.
• Performance: Disk writes of the App’s state-changes have now been removed from the main Event queue and passed on to the Filesystem queue, making the app perform faster since all State and Logic changes can be performed without waiting for disk writes.

That's it for this week, folks! We’re working hard already on our next release. See you then ;)

2.0.3 2019-09-27
Whoa, that’s another huge merge into our master branch! I think it’s time we tell you what we’ve been up to these past couple of weeks. So let’s dive in, shall we?

## Small Features & Improvements
• Added switches inside DFU Settings for “Allow Resume” and “Alternative Advertising Name”: these are features requested by you in order to better debug the DFU issues you’ve been having. We hope this alleviates your issues until we can get around to building proper user-visible logging.
• Fully reworked Graph screen. Check our Nordic DevZone Blog Post for more juicy details.
• In “tablet mode”, selecting a device from the Graph tab, means you’ll find it open, too, if you switch back to the Scanner tab.
• In iOS 13, we use the new RelativeDateFormatter APIs in a couple of spots, such as the Scanner Timeout strings and the User Actions Privacy screen.

## Fixes
• Remember how we told you in 2.0.2 that SpriteKit was a source of crashes for us in devices running iOS 9? Well, it turns out we didn’t properly fix it - it still crashed after the first startup of the app. Should be better now :)
• Have you ever found yourself in the Scanner tab with an empty screen, and wonder ‘what happened here?’ Well, it finally happened to us, too, and we think we improved things. Let us know if that didn’t happen for you.
• In 2.0.2, if you tap to select a device with filtering enabled, and it disappears due to the RSSI filter doing its thing, the app crashed.
• It shouldn’t be possible now for Settings to push multiple copies of the screen currently open into its Navigation Stack.
• When switching between the Graph and Scanner tabs in tablet mode, the title for the Details pane should be set.
• Some of you discovered our ‘Developer Mode’ too easily :O It should be harder for you to enable it now.

That's it for this week, folks! We’re working hard already on our next release. See you then ;)

2.0.2 2019-09-03
This is going to be a long list, but I promise you it's going to be worth it ^^

## Small Features & Improvements
• When a device's appearance changes, we trigger a Scanner layout to try to keep the UITableViewCell(s) neat and tidy.
• Added 'HID' and 'UART' to the list of Service Filters.
• Eddystone devices are now classified as being of the 'Eddystone' type, rather than just 'Beacon'(s)
• Improved readability of available filters ('Manufacturer' is 'Data' and 'Advertising' is now 'Services'.
• Added Support for Importing files from External Sources ("Copy to nRF Connect")
• Introduced caching for internal UUID Mapping Lists (UUID to User-Readable Description)
• Introduced DFU Settings for Packet Receipt Notifications, Force DFU and Experimental Buttonless DFU Features.
• All Advertiser User Actions are now performed synchronously (faster!) rather than asynchronously.
• List of Services in Device Details now clears after dismissing Device Details pane, not immediately after disconnecting from a device.
• Added Support for advertising with missing 'Apple' and 'micro:bit' Services.

2.0.1 2019-08-26
Here it is - the first of many, many releases as part of the 2.0 bloodline. We hope you enjoy its enhanced stability and improved performance !

## A Note about Logging in nRF Connect 2.0
• We have taken note of how important this feature is for you, and we want to bring it back, bigger and better, as soon as possible. However, our focus now is to stabilise 2.0 and to bring it up to par with the changes iOS 13 is bringing, so we need a little bit more time.

## Refinements
• The Scanning Animation has been completely re-written from scratch. It now makes use of CADisplayLink to synchronise with your screen's refresh rate, as well as providing a much smoother animation that isn't designed to be removed within the first second of play, as the previous version was.
• Opening the User Actions screen in Settings was PAINFULLY SLOW if the app ran in a crowded environment with lots of devices. It's a lot faster now ;)
• If a user attempts to deselect a connected device, we show them an error.

## Fixes
• Fix: ServicesViewController has readable Section Headers in .dualPane mode
• Fix: “Discover Services” now uses DeviceState.discoveredServices Action instead of “refreshScannerList”
• Fix for RootSettingsViewController's tableViewHeader in .dualPane
• Fix: Re-Selecting the Currently Open Settings Page closes it in .dualPane
• Fix: Don't allow users to dismiss NewAdvertiserViewController() by sliding down in iOS 13
• Fix for Device Details' NavBar in iOS 13
• Added-in some more Company Images
• Updated iOSDFULibrary to version 4.5.1
• Bug-Fix: ChartData's addData(from:) now checks index range before attempting to draw more values
• Fix: ScannedDevicesDataSource no longer delays synchronising actions in mainQueue
• Fixed nil-pickedDeviceCursor when closing Device Details Crash
• Fix: Advertiser UITableView now mirrors "Edit Advertiser”’s margins
• Fix: All selected devices remain selected upon Rotation
• Updated icon (will probably be changed again)
• Bug-Fix for 2.0#1656 nil cache.object(forKey: key) crash when opening new Tab
• iOS 13 Navigation Bar Color Fix
• Fix: Multiple didSelectRowAt() selectors were being set for the same AdvertiserTableViewCell
• Fix: Double-Tap on Scanner in .dualPane now deselects all devices (except connected ones)
• Fix: Previously, we'd keep all Selected Devices as Selected Rows in .dualPane Mode
• Bug Fix: On Rotation, DeviceDetails' Title is empty
• Fix: Heart Rate Monitor was previously showing "device.type.hrm" as Text
• Small UI Fix: Increased the space between "extended information" string and the device's title
• Fix: Renamed "Cycling" as "Fitness" Device Appearance
• Fix: "HID" and "Clock" now have higher-priority regarding the Appearance shown for a Device
• Modified Company Name for Devices with 0xFFFF (65545) Company ID Value
• Locked nRF Connect to Light Mode on iOS 13
• Bug Fix: If the Scanner is Off, RSSI Graph doesn't react to Scanning Filter changes
• Bumped iOS Target Version to 12.4
• Fix: Pull-to-Refresh color for RSSI List in .singlePane mode is now white
• The Most Important Change In The World: Corrected Bundle Name to "nRF Connect" (removed the hyphen)
