Nystagmus Oscillopsia Sim VR Description
Nystagmus is an eye movement disorder whereby the sufferer's eyes move involuntarily. Oscillopsia is the symptom of perceiving the world to be in constant motion as a result of the eye motion. People who develop nystagmus early in life mostly adapt to the eye movements and do not experience oscillopsia, however others have to live with the debilitating effects of oscillopsia continuously. This app uses real eye tracking data from nystagmus patients and recreates the eye movements in virtual reality.
The app has been produced to help raise awareness of the condition and to help people with nystagmus (and oscillopsia) communicate its debilitating nature.

The app's development was funded by Sheffield Hospitals Charity. If you would like to support this research and the charity please donate using the following link:
www.sheffieldhospitalscharity.org.uk/eyeresearch

The app allows the user to select a type of nystagmus (horizontal, vertical, pendular) from the main menu and subsequently experience the nystagmus within one of 4 scenes. The Google Cardboard button/trigger must be pressed in order to make selections.

Requires Google Cardboard headset.
