About OmniPlan 3

OmniPlan: Project planning made painless. Free 2-week trial.

OmniPlan is designed to help you visualize, maintain, and simplify your projects. Break down tasks, optimize the required resources, and monitor your entire plan—all at a glance. Visualize your project’s tasks in a Gantt chart or Network diagram. Automatically sync projects across multiple personal devices or collaborate with your colleagues and share every detail. Run Monte Carlo simulations to forecast milestone completion dates with varying levels of confidence. OmniPlan helps you manage projects that are as simple or complex as you need them to be—without the complexity.

FREE TRIAL

With the free two week trial, you can try all of the features of Standard and Pro without buying anything. After the trial, you can continue to use OmniPlan to view documents for free.

STANDARD FEATURES (AVAILABLE VIA IN-APP PURCHASE)

• Gantt Chart — Add groups, tasks, and milestones to your project and watch OmniPlan transform the timeline of your project into a beautiful Gantt chart. The project Gantt chart graphically shows task durations, start and stop times, dependencies, resources, or resource usage by task, all on a timeline. You can visually edit tasks and create dependencies by connecting them in the Gantt view.
• Network Diagram View — An elegant and easy way to rapidly prototype and visualize your project’s flow as a network diagram of nodes connected by dependencies.
• Resource Leveling — Identify bottlenecks in your project and distribute workloads fairly and efficiently with OmniPlan’s resource management.
• Leveling Priority — Define leveling priority for tasks in your project.
• Violation Resolution — If your schedule has a logical impossibility, OmniPlan will find it and suggest the best course of action to restore order.
• Catch-Up and Reschedule — If everything is going as planned, bring the completion percentage of every task (or just the selected tasks) in your project up to today’s date. If you have tasks which were planned to be complete by now, but aren’t, quickly reschedule them.
• Meeting Task Type — Specify if multiple resources need to work on a task independently or simultaneously.
• Unlinked Duration and Effort — Set different values for a task’s effort and duration, then let OmniPlan crunch the numbers for your resource assignment percentage.
• Multiple Baselines — Take snapshots of your schedule, then compare them as your project progresses to make sure you're still on track.
• Critical Path — Flip a switch to highlight tasks that have the biggest impact on your deadline.
• Display Off-Hours — Display all off-hours, holidays, and weekends in the Gantt chart.
• Change Tracking — Keep tabs on and review the changes you've made in your project so far.

PRO FEATURES (AVAILABLE VIA IN-APP PURCHASE):

• Microsoft Project Import/Export — Open Microsoft Project® 2016 or earlier documents directly in OmniPlan and export to Project 2013.
• Monte Carlo Simulation — Run multiple simulations in seconds to forecast milestone completion dates with varying levels of confidence.
• Publish & Subscribe: Sync your entire project to the Omni Sync Server or to your own WebDAV server. Make changes to your project and sync to see those from your collaborators.
• Change Tracking: Keep tabs on and review the changes you've made in your project so far. If you're syncing, use change tracking to review, browse, and then accept or reject changes task by task or en masse from your collaborators.

OmniPlan 3.12 for iOS introduces support for new features in iOS 13 and iPadOS and adopts Apple's standard iOS file browser.

• Document Browser — OmniPlan now uses Apple’s built-in iOS file browser for document management. With Apple's file browser, you can store and sync your projects using iCloud Drive or a third-party solution, or you can continue to sync your projects via OmniPresence.
• OmniPresence — Downloaded files synced via OmniPresence are now stored locally in a subfolder of the OmniPlan folder on your device. By default, OmniPresence does not download larger synced files automatically; tap the OmniPresence icon in the file browser toolbar to open the download manager and choose files to download.
• Thumbnail Previews — Preview images are generated and saved as part of the file when a project is edited. Existing projects will not display a preview in the file browser until they are edited.
• Context Menus — Quickly perform common actions in a project via context menus, accessed via 3D Touch or the touch and hold gesture.
• Dark Mode — When your iOS device’s Appearance is set to Dark, OmniPlan’s interface will now automatically switch to Dark Mode. (Specifying the Dark or Light theme on a per-project basis is no longer supported.)
• Multitasking — Work with two OmniPlan projects simultaneously in Split View, or open several projects in multiple spaces on iPadOS.
• Omni Automation [PRO] — We've made a number of improvements to Omni Automation, including support for input dialogs and file output. For more details, see the Omni Automation Release Notes (which can be found in the API Reference documentation).

3.7
Sep 19, 2017
OmniPlan 3.7 for iOS introduces support for Drag & Drop and integration with the iOS 11 Files app. This release also includes a handful of updates to OmniPlan’s interface and bug fixes.

OmniPlan 3.7 for iOS requires iOS 11.

• Drag and Drop Within OmniPlan — You can now drag tasks within or between OmniPlan projects. Tasks can be dragged out of the Gantt chart or Network diagram and dropped onto the Gantt chart (dropping isn’t currently supported in the Network Diagram). To drag multiple tasks at once, start dragging the first of your tasks, then tap the other tasks you’d like to include. When dropping multiple tasks at once they take the order in which they were added to the drag (this is also a quick way to reorder tasks in a project). To cancel a drag in progress, drag all the way to the edge of the screen.
• Drag and Drop Between Other Apps — On iPad you can drag tasks from OmniPlan to any app that supports dropping text or calendar events. Dragging calendar events, reminders, plain text, or OmniFocus tasks into OmniPlan creates new tasks.
• Drag and Drop in the Document Picker — The Document Picker supports Drag and Drop to make document management even easier. Drag files in to quickly import them, drag them out to copy them elsewhere, or pick up a group of documents and add them to a folder in the Document Browser to keep all your projects organized.
• Files App Integration & iCloud Support — OmniPlan 3 now supports file management and iCloud Drive sync via the iOS 11 Files app. Local OmniPlan project files now appear in the iOS 11 Files app, and OmniPlan projects saved to iCloud Drive will open in place for editing. At this point in time we do not recommend syncing OmniPlan files with third party sync services other than iCloud, as many of these sync services do not support OmniPlan’s file package format.
• Icons — We’ve updated OmniPlan with bolder, more colorful icons.
• Microsoft Project Import — OmniPlan no longer performs a destructive import of Microsoft Project files. The original .mpp Microsoft Project file is now left in its original location, and the imported OmniPlan .oplx project file is copied into OmniPlan’s Local Documents. (In previous versions of OmniPlan, the imported .oplx file overwrote in the original .mpp file.)
• Share Menu — It is no longer possible to share multiple files at a time.
• View Type — It is now possible to switch between the Gantt and Network views via an option in the View popover (this allows OmniPlan to hide the view type toolbar button when the toolbar is too crowded).
• Document Browser — Pulling down in the document browser no longer results in unnecessary blank space.
• Server Repositories — The alert presented when deleting a file from a server repository is now spelled correctly, and provides the option to cancel.
• Task Inspector — Restored the “i” buttons for inspecting task assignments and dependent tasks.
3.6.3
Aug 17, 2017
OmniPlan 3.6.3 is a minor update focused on bug fixes.

• Localizations — Text in OmniPlan’s new welcome screen and free viewer mode is now fully localized.
• Project Calendar — Fixed a bug related to regional calendar settings that could cause extra days to be added to a project’s work week when adjust working hours.

If you have any feedback or questions, we’d love to hear from you! The Omni Group offers free tech support; you can email omniplan@omnigroup.com, call 1–800–315–6664 or 1–206–523–4152, or tweet @OmniPlan.

3.6.2
Jul 28, 2017
OmniPlan 3.6.2 is a minor update focused on bug fixes.

• In-App Purchase — Fixed a bug that could cause OmniPlan not to recognize previous Pro purchases.

OmniPlan 3.6.1

• Localizations — Updated localized text in OmniPlan’s first launch experience and trial mode banners.
• In-App Purchase — Pro feature set now unlocks properly for existing Pro customers.
• Inspectors — Fixed a bug that could cause inspector text to shift too far right.

OmniPlan 3.6 for iOS includes a redesigned inspector experience, full dark theme support, and a handful of bug fixes. This release also introduces the option for new customers to try OmniPlan for two weeks before purchasing the application.

• Optimized Inspectors — The Task, Resource, and Project Inspectors now open in a unified view on smaller iOS devices and as a unified sidebar on larger iOS devices, allowing for improved access to inspector contents. You can show or hide the unified inspector by tapping the “i” icon. When space is available, inspectors now persist on the screen, making it easier to make multiple changes to your project.
• Dark Mode — Enabling OmniPlan’s Dark Theme now applies the dark color palette to the full app interface (previously, applying the Dark Theme only changed the project’s color scheme).
• Free Downloads — OmniPlan is now a free download in the iTunes App Store. This change allows us to offer a two week trial and unlicensed read-only mode to new customers who download OmniPlan for iOS. This change does not affect existing OmniPlan customers, and the prices to unlock OmniPlan functionality (Standard and Pro) remain the same.
• Microsoft Project — OmniPlan now supports importing and exporting Microsoft Project elapsed time values.
• Settings — OmniPlan’s version number is now displayed in Settings app.
• Task Scheduling Inspector — Prerequisite and dependent task lists now fill the available space (these lists previously only displayed 6 tasks at a time).
• Toolbar — Toolbar icons and layout have been updated to better fit available space. Task, Resource, and Project Inspector icons have been consolidated into one “i” icon.
• Keyboard — Addressed a bug that could cause the on-screen keyboard to appear the wrong shade of grey on some devices.
• Localizations — Elapsed duration key label is now localized in the duration keyboard.
• Microsoft Project — Fixed a couple of bugs related to Microsoft Project import/export.
• Network View — Fixed a bug that could prevent Task Inspector navigation arrows from functioning if tasks were added in Network view immediately after project creation.
• New Tasks — New task title text is now automatically selected after task creation to allow for quickly renaming tasks.
• Server Repositories — Renamed buttons to reduce confusion when setting up a new server repository.

3.5.1
May 8, 2017
OmniPlan 3.5.1 is a minor update focused on bug fixes.

Recent Changes:

• Gantt — Addressed a bug that could cause the Gantt chart to scroll to start of project after adding a new task.
• Scheduling — Resource leveling no longer ignores project non-working days.
• Scheduling — Restored the ability to set effort and duration independently when no resource is assigned to a task.
• Scheduling — Restored the ability to change a task’s effort when the task’s resource allocation is set to “adjust task effort.”
• Split Tasks — Tasks split into three segments now behave as expected.
• Task Cost — Fixed a bug that caused OmniPlan to fail to read task cost for tasks with fixed durations.
• Scheduling — It is once again possible to enter negative values for task lead/lag time.
• Stability — Rejoining a split task no longer causes OmniPlan to crash.
• Stability — Fixed a crash that could occur when adjusting slack limit for a critical path.

OmniPlan 3.5 for iOS introduces support for elapsed time values for task duration and lead/lag times. OmniPlan 3.5 for iOS also introduces 1Password support and includes a wide range of bug and stability fixes.

A note about backwards compatibility: OmniPlan 3.5 for iOS and the corresponding Mac release, OmniPlan 3.7 for Mac, contain changes to OmniPlan’s scheduling logic, syncing, and change tracking. If you’re syncing OmniPlan 3 projects between multiple devices, you should update all installations of OmniPlan to the most recent version.

OmniPlan 3.5 for iOS requires iOS 10.

Recent Changes

• Elapsed Duration — OmniPlan now supports elapsed time values for task duration and lead/lag time! By default, OmniPlan calculates task duration and lead/lag time from the project’s work hours. Entering an “e” before either value will now convert it to an elapsed time value instead. Need to wait for the paint to dry before you can take the next step in your project? Enter “48eh” in your “Let paint dry” task’s duration field to tell OmniPlan that the next dependent task can begin Monday morning if the paint has started to dry by the end of the day Friday (and assigning additional resources to watch the paint dry won’t help it complete any earlier). OmniPlan does not yet support importing or exporting Microsoft Project elapsed time values.
• 1Password — OmniPlan now integrates with 1Password for iOS for OmniPresence credentials.
• Scheduling — We cleaned up and rewrote the code OmniPlan uses to schedule project timelines. This is intended to make project scheduling more accurate by addressing things like rounding errors. As a result, you may notice slight changes in your project’s schedule after installing this update. If you are confused about why your project’s schedule as changed, or feel that it has changed in a way that it shouldn’t have, please contact our Support team!
• Publish/Subscribe — Substantial updates were made to OmniPlan’s publish/subscribe mechanism in order to improve speed and better handle authentication challenges.
• Date Formatting — Lead time in the Task Scheduling Inspector now correctly respects specified duration date formatting.
• Publish/Subscribe — Changes to a project’s start date now publish properly.
• Publish/Subscribe — Addressed an encoding issue that could cause a 404 error for account names that include an @ symbol.
• Stability — Setting the date scale to “Day” while viewing all non-working hours no longer causes a crash.
• Smaller fixes and improvements — For full release notes, see OmniPlan Settings.

3.4
Sep 12, 2016
OmniPlan 3.4 for iOS introduces Brazilian Portuguese and Korean localization support and “App Lock,” an optional privacy feature for locking access to OmniPlan on your device via TouchID or a password.

• App Lock — When App Lock is enabled TouchID or the App Lock password is required to access the application. This feature is intended to add an enhanced layer of privacy, preventing access to OmniPlan's contents while your iOS device is unlocked. App Lock does not encrypt documents or block access to OmniPlan's contents via iTunes File Sharing. App Lock passwords are device specific. If the App Lock password is forgotten, deleting and reinstalling OmniPlan will disable the App Lock feature (note: local data should always be backed up before deleting and reinstalling an application to prevent data loss).
• Localizations — Added support for Brazilian Portuguese and Korean. If you notice issues in either of these newly supported languages, please let us know!
• Resources — The Equipment Resource icon now matches the other resource icons.
• Scheduling — Addressed a bug that could cause resource schedule exceptions to be ignored when exceptions were also scheduled in the project calendar.

OmniPlan 3.3 for iOS introduces paste support in the Network View, fixes numerous Microsoft Project import/export issues, and addresses other bugs.

If a group is selected in the Network View, tasks pasted will become children of the selected group. If there is no selection in the Network diagram, the new tasks will be independent of the existing tasks.
• Network View — A long-press while in Edit mode in the Network View now opens the contextual menu.
