About Plum Music Player

Plum is a modern music player app designed for enthusiasts who like to build and manage their own library of music.

Since streaming music became popular more and more apps are focusing on introducing new music to listeners while not giving many options to manage their own music library.
Plum takes the opposite approach and doesn't bombard you with notifications about newly released hits or suggestions about what you should be listening to.
Instead it gives you very streamlined and fun to use interface that makes browsing your music library exciting again.

• Stream music from Spotify and or play your local files synced via Music app (iTunes)
• Build Folders with any combination of albums, artists or playlists and use them across your iCloud devices
• Log into Last.fm to track your listening history
• Browse your all-time favorite albums on a dedicated screen
• Easily build and edit now playback queue
• Customize many aspects of interface from colors and layout styles to alternative Now Playing view skins

* Spotify app needs to be installed to stream and play music fron the service
** Apple Music and iCloud Music Library are currently not supported. Songs synced through iTunes will play fine

Thank you for using Plum!
If you enjoy the app (and I know you do) why not give it a review in the App Store? Shouldn't take more than 2 minutes

This version brings a few highly-requested features like saving albums to your Spotify library and a lot of other, smaller improvements.

9.1.9
Feb 13, 2023
Thank you for using Plum!
This update brings some fixes and small improvements:

• In playlist detail view you can now pull down to refresh playlist's contents. Plum does its best to keep up with most up-to-date state of followed playlists but sometimes you might notice that few songs from the playlist are missing. Manually refreshing playlist should solve this problem if you happen to encounter it
• Fixed Last.fm scrobbles not being sent properly
• Fixed crash that would happen a bit randomly when app was running in background
• Fixed updating "Last played date" and "Play count" properties for iTunes songs
• Fixed UI being unresponsive when banner is being displayed

Happy New Year! Thank you for using and supporting Plum.
2022 brought a lot of new features and improvements to the app and 2023 is gonna be even more exciting!

This update fixes a couple of bugs and introduces option to add entire albums to the playing queue.
To do that open menu on any album and select "Add to Queue" option.
This also works in Album Details page!

9.1.7
Dec 26, 2022
Thank you for using Plum. I hope you had wonderful time during Christmas!
While you're at it, why not write a quick review of Plum in the App Store? Each one helps introducing Plum to new music lovers just like yourself

This new update is really a milestone for the Spotify integration.
For the last couple of weeks I've been rewriting big parts of code responsible for interacting with Spotify API and it was so worth the time put in.
If you've encountered issues in previous versions where your library could not be loaded, or the app had to be re-opened because some albums could not be opened you should give Plum one more chance, all of those problems should now be gone.

Let's quickly go over what else has changed in this update:

Spotify variant:
• Last.fm now works again for Spotify! Go to Settings > Other and log in to your account and Plum will scrobble every track you're listening to
• The special playlist which is created by Plum in your Spotify account now has a cover image so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in your library. If you don't see the image, go to your library, delete the playlist and it will be added by the next time queue is loaded
• Fixed playback in large playlists not starting at selected song
• Fixed issue that prevented new users to finish onboarding process when logging into Spotify for the first time
9.1.6
Dec 5, 2022
Plum 9.1.6 is all about bug fixes and performance improvements and let me tell you, they're pretty significant!

• Upcoming song from the queue is now displayed in Now Playing view. This is first step in displaying full playback queue, hopefully Spotify API will soon allow that (Spotify)
• Plum no longer requires 4 separate playlists to manage playback queue. It now only creates one playlist in your account (called Plum Playback Queue) and as a result of the new mechanism scheduling playback is now much faster and more reliable (Spotify)
• Massively improved time of loading Songs tab. There is still room for some improvements and that will come in next updates (Spotify)
• Fixed playback starting from different song than the one selected (Spotify)
• Fixed items placed in Favourites section in main tabs sometimes showing wrong information
• Fixed upcoming song not being displayed in Classic player screen

• Fixed folder images not showing actual items placed inside them

Stay tuned for next updates and follow news regarding development on Twitter or Reddit at r/plumapp!

• (Spotify) A small banner will now be displayed whenever Plum loses connection with Spotify app

9.1.1
Sep 16, 2022
This update introduces app variants. Since it is no longer possible to mix music files from different sources you can now choose to launch Plum in one of two available configurations (Variants)
* Spotify
* Local (with iTunes support)

During first launch you will be asked to pick your preferred variant. Keep in mind that not all features work across all variants and you will see some minor differences between the two.
You can change the selection later in Settings

Reviews and ratings in the App Store encourage me to keep developing Plum and help greatly to introduce it to new users.
If you haven't already dropped one, it would be awesome if you did!

9.0.2
Jul 16, 2022
This little update brings a couple of changes:

• Added new setting called "Force automatic library updates" which is disabled by default. From now on Plum will check whether the device is in Low Power Mode or Data Saving is turned on before fetching most recent state of the library. You can enable that option or manually refresh the library by performing pull-down gesture on any of the main tabs

• Added "Restore purchases" button in Plum+ features screen for those who purchased full version of Plum before 9.0 but the purchase history didn't transfer correctly

• Added long-press menu actions for Mini Player

• Fixed crash in main tabs which was caused by duplicate items coming from iTunes library

• Fixed "Insert into queue" menu option

• Disabled updating Play Count and Last Played Date for iTunes songs because in some cases it caused the app to hang up completely
9.0.1
Jul 6, 2022
This update brings following changes:
• Fixed tab switcher and miniplayer on iPad
• Fixed loading screen getting stuck in some rare cases
• Fixed issue that caused app to freeze after tapping "Repeat" button in player
• Fixed tracks not showing in correct order in queue when shuffling

Version 9.0 (AKA the update that took forever while everyone worried whether Plum will ever come back) is finally here and it's a huge one because…
The entire app has been re-written from the scratch, well, more than 80% of the source files at least.
So while there are new features, you will mostly/hopefully notice the giant differences in stability and performance gains

So before I talk about why, let’s start with what’s new:
• Support for multi-disc albums. Every disc has its own page in Album detail screen and you can choose whether to play a single disc, or all album tracks
• Search available for entire Spotify catalog
• Resume playing album from last listened track
• Set alternative album artwork images
• Design of „Classic” player skin has been updated with better typography and transparency effects
• Pinned items have been removed in favor of displaying favorite items in top sections of each tab

What has been fixed:
• Greatly improved stability of Spotify playback
• Favorite iTunes items are now persistent across devices and different library syncs
• Plum is now a much better citizen with regard to memory and energy consumption so iOS doesn’t kill it as soon as it enters background

You might notice that some features, like editing playlists, saving songs to library or Spotlight search have been removed, but I decided to postpone and release them in next minor updates.

And for the last part, why?
As apps grows bigger with time it gets more difficult to go back to the basics and improve on them because so many parts depend on each other. That is a big pain while working in corporate projects, when the code is often more than half a decade old and while it works you wish you could update it

But that's why we have those hobby projects, to have a free hand and rewrite everything if we see fit.

Thanks for using Plum! This is a minor update, but it fixes some major annoyances and brings one awesome improvement to the search screen!

What's new:
• New "Top Results" section in search screen. Search results are now sorted by how close they match currently typed query. Awesome!
• Improved performance in Album, Artist and Playlist detail views
• Fixed messed up order of tracks in some playlists
• Fixed crash after selecting "Add to Playlist" option in Player view
• Moved toggle for Horizontal Pins layout from Popover Menus to "Appearance Settings" page

Plum 8 is here! After longest period of beta testing yet, new and exciting features are ready to be enjoyed by everyone. I can't wait to hear your opinion about it!

What's new in the update:
• Pinned items
Starting off with my favorite feature of this update, Pinned items make their debut in Plum 8! You could already mark your favorite albums, but maybe there are some of them that you really like to revisit often. Pinning to the top of the screen would always make it easy and exciting to reach them!

• Revamped Folders
Folders appeared in Plum a long time ago, but honestly they always lacked some polish, so I decided to completely re-work them using the experience I gained since their debut. Starting with Plum 8, Folders have their dedicated page and can be created with any combination of albums, artists and playlists!

• Improved Search
Performant and reliable search mechanism is a must in modern media apps but it was always a part of Plum that aside from few tweaks stayed basically unchanged since start of the project, but now, after completely reworking the underlying mechanisms I can honestly say that Plum has one of the fastest search screen in any music app!

• Performance boost
With every update, Plum gains a little performance enhancements, however in Plum 8 every major screen has been updated with newest APIs to make scrolling buttery smooth and ensure that the app is as future-proof as possible!

• Bug fixes
Thanks to the awesome testers who reported every issue they found during this longest beta period yet, Plum 8 is the most polished update yet!

Don't forget to leave a review, every opinion counts!

This is a minor update, but fixes some major annoyances and brings back support for iTunes Playlist folders!

What's new:
• iTunes Playlist Folders are back in full swing! They're displayed in the Playlist tab and have their own separate section if sorting by playlist type is enabled
• You can now properly like/unlike songs that are not yet in your library. Up until now saving songs coming from someone's playlist was very buggy.
Any changes are reflected in Spotify app as well!
• Favourite songs are now sorted by Added Date by default
• Fixed Playlist not preserving the original order when sorting is disabled
• Fixed crash occurring when some items lacked artwork image
• Fixed crash happening when some Spotify albums lacked release date
• Fixed very rare crash related to iTunes library. I thought it was bullet-proof for so many years...

This update contains small fix for an annoying Last.fm bug. Sorry about that!
7.2.2

If found, lyrics are stored on the device for quick access later without the need to grab them again.

Also in the update:
• Fixed Last.fm bug that effectively crippled entire scrobbling functionality. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

If you enjoy using Plum, please consider writing a review or purchasing a small donation via Settings page - coffee addiction is no joke!
