Plum Music Player Description
Plum is a modern music player app designed for enthusiasts who like to build and manage their own library of music.

Since streaming music became popular more and more apps are focusing on introducing new music to listeners while not giving many options to manage their own music library.
Plum takes the opposite approach and doesn't bombard you with notifications about newly released hits or suggestions about what you should be listening to.
Instead it gives you very streamlined and fun to use interface that makes browsing your music library exciting again.

• Stream music from Spotify and or play your local files synced via Music app (iTunes)
• Build Folders with any combination of albums, artists or playlists and use them across your iCloud devices
• Log into Last.fm to track your listening history
• Browse your all-time favorite albums on a dedicated screen
• Easily build and edit now playback queue
• Customize many aspects of interface from colors and layout styles to alternative Now Playing view skins

* Spotify app needs to be installed to stream and play music fron the service
** Apple Music and iCloud Music Library are currently not supported. Songs synced through iTunes will play fine

Thank you for using Plum!
If you enjoy the app (and I know you do) why not give it a review in the App Store? Shouldn't take more than 2 minutes

This version brings a few highly-requested features like saving albums to your Spotify library and a lot of other, smaller improvements.
Open the app to read the full changelog there.
9.1.9 2023-02-13
Thank you for using Plum!
This update brings some fixes and small improvements:

• In playlist detail view you can now pull down to refresh playlist's contents. Plum does its best to keep up with most up-to-date state of followed playlists but sometimes you might notice that few songs from the playlist are missing. Manually refreshing playlist should solve this problem if you happen to encounter it
• Fixed Last.fm scrobbles not being sent properly
• Fixed crash that would happen a bit randomly when app was running in background
• Fixed updating "Last played date" and "Play count" properties for iTunes songs
• Fixed UI being unresponsive when banner is being displayed
9.1.5 2022-10-15

This update brings a couple of changes and improvements:
• You can now choose to hide empty folders in the "Folders" tab by enabling this option in the tab's menu
• (Spotify) Improved saving / removing songs from library. In Now Playing view tap "Heart" button to display available actions for current track
• (Spotify) A small banner will now be displayed whenever Plum loses connection with Spotify app

9.1.1 2022-09-16
This update introduces app variants. Since it is no longer possible to mix music files from different sources you can now choose to launch Plum in one of two available configurations (Variants)
* Spotify
* Local (with iTunes support)

During first launch you will be asked to pick your preferred variant. Keep in mind that not all features work across all variants and you will see some minor differences between the two.
You can change the selection later in Settings

Reviews and ratings in the App Store encourage me to keep developing Plum and help greatly to introduce it to new users.
If you haven't already dropped one, it would be awesome if you did!
9.1 2022-09-06

9.0.2 2022-07-16
This little update brings a couple of changes:

• Added new setting called "Force automatic library updates" which is disabled by default. From now on Plum will check whether the device is in Low Power Mode or Data Saving is turned on before fetching most recent state of the library. You can enable that option or manually refresh the library by performing pull-down gesture on any of the main tabs

• Added "Restore purchases" button in Plum+ features screen for those who purchased full version of Plum before 9.0 but the purchase history didn't transfer correctly

• Added long-press menu actions for Mini Player

• Fixed crash in main tabs which was caused by duplicate items coming from iTunes library

• Fixed "Insert into queue" menu option

• Disabled updating Play Count and Last Played Date for iTunes songs because in some cases it caused the app to hang up completely
9.0.1 2022-07-06
This update brings following changes:
• Fixed tab switcher and miniplayer on iPad
• Fixed loading screen getting stuck in some rare cases
• Fixed issue that caused app to freeze after tapping "Repeat" button in player
• Fixed tracks not showing in correct order in queue when shuffling

__________________
Version 9.0 (AKA the update that took forever while everyone worried whether Plum will ever come back) is finally here and it's a huge one because…
The entire app has been re-written from the scratch, well, more than 80% of the source files at least.
So while there are new features, you will mostly/hopefully notice the giant differences in stability and performance gains

So before I talk about why, let’s start with what’s new:
• Support for multi-disc albums. Every disc has its own page in Album detail screen and you can choose whether to play a single disc, or all album tracks
• Search available for entire Spotify catalog
• Resume playing album from last listened track
• Set alternative album artwork images
• Design of „Classic” player skin has been updated with better typography and transparency effects
• Pinned items have been removed in favor of displaying favorite items in top sections of each tab

What has been fixed:
• Greatly improved stability of Spotify playback
• Favorite iTunes items are now persistent across devices and different library syncs
• Plum is now a much better citizen with regard to memory and energy consumption so iOS doesn’t kill it as soon as it enters background

You might notice that some features, like editing playlists, saving songs to library or Spotlight search have been removed, but I decided to postpone and release them in next minor updates.

And for the last part, why?
As apps grows bigger with time it gets more difficult to go back to the basics and improve on them because so many parts depend on each other. That is a big pain while working in corporate projects, when the code is often more than half a decade old and while it works you wish you could update it

But that's why we have those hobby projects, to have a free hand and rewrite everything if we see fit.
8.0.4 2021-05-26
Thanks for using Plum! This is a minor update, but it fixes some major annoyances and brings one awesome improvement to the search screen!

What's new:
• New "Top Results" section in search screen. Search results are now sorted by how close they match currently typed query. Awesome!
• Improved performance in Album, Artist and Playlist detail views
• Fixed messed up order of tracks in some playlists
• Fixed crash after selecting "Add to Playlist" option in Player view
• Moved toggle for Horizontal Pins layout from Popover Menus to "Appearance Settings" page

-------------------------
Plum 8 is here! After longest period of beta testing yet, new and exciting features are ready to be enjoyed by everyone. I can't wait to hear your opinion about it!

What's new in the update:
• Pinned items
Starting off with my favorite feature of this update, Pinned items make their debut in Plum 8! You could already mark your favorite albums, but maybe there are some of them that you really like to revisit often. Pinning to the top of the screen would always make it easy and exciting to reach them!

• Revamped Folders
Folders appeared in Plum a long time ago, but honestly they always lacked some polish, so I decided to completely re-work them using the experience I gained since their debut. Starting with Plum 8, Folders have their dedicated page and can be created with any combination of albums, artists and playlists!

• Improved Search
Performant and reliable search mechanism is a must in modern media apps but it was always a part of Plum that aside from few tweaks stayed basically unchanged since start of the project, but now, after completely reworking the underlying mechanisms I can honestly say that Plum has one of the fastest search screen in any music app!

• Performance boost
With every update, Plum gains a little performance enhancements, however in Plum 8 every major screen has been updated with newest APIs to make scrolling buttery smooth and ensure that the app is as future-proof as possible!

• Bug fixes
Thanks to the awesome testers who reported every issue they found during this longest beta period yet, Plum 8 is the most polished update yet!

Don't forget to leave a review, every opinion counts!

6.0.1 2020-12-04
• Landing Zones
If you're a curious user, you might have used the Landing Zone setting in Spotlight settings. It allows you to decide whether you want to play selected song in the context of album, artist of all songs in the library. In 6.0.1 the setting now also applies to search screen.
For example, when Landing Zone is set to Album, selecting Childish Gambino's song "Redbone" will start playing entire album, starting from that song.
Landing Zone only works if album/artist has more than one song, otherwise queue is assembled from all songs in the library.

Also in the update:
• Fixed crash in playlist view
• Fixed crash when deleting a folder
6.0 2020-11-30
Next major version of Plum is here! A lot has changed under-the-hood and number of 3rd party dependencies has been decreased to a minimum, that means smaller app size, less crashes and less headaches for me while I'm trying to figure out why something's broken!
New features:

• Queue persistence
Plum will now restore playback queue after relaunching!

features:

• Show missing songs when displaying a partially saved album

• New Now Playing view design
Beautiful, clean design inspired by iOS 9 Music app is available as in-app purchase through Appearance Settings page.

• Context menus
New shiny context menus available in Now Playing view. Press and hold album/artist label to quickly access them

• iOS 14+ improvements
Usage of newest APIs makes Plum much faster and less prone to bugs!

• Performance improvements
The much needed bug fixes and optimisations related to Favourites, sorting and library management
5.2.1 2020-10-04
This update took some time and testing (thanks, everyone!) but I think it was well worth the wait!
Btw, there was an influx of new users recently, if you're one of them I'd love to know how did you find out about Plum!

• Queue Builder
There is a new, awesome way to build a perfect queue before actually playing it.
Open contextual menus, by holding down on any item in the library and choose the "Add to Queue Builder" option.
Now, magically, there are + signs all over the place! Tap one of those to add a single song, album, or even entire playlist to the newly created queue and then rearrange it to your liking. Songs which were moved are freezed so they don't change their position after pressing "Randomize".
How cool is that?
When you're satisfied with the queue, just press play and enjoy your favourite songs played in your preferred order.

• Improved search
You can now search by multiple properties.
For example putting "mac reflection" could display Mac Demarco's song called "Chamber of Reflections". Typing "orchestra love" could show Unknown Mortal Orchestra's album "Multi-Love" as well as all songs from that album.

• Visual tweaks
Cover images now have a subtle shadow displayed underneath, looks great and adds a bit of depth to the interface

• Improvements to the onboarding screen
It might not be very interesting if you're already a Plum user, but hopefully from now on, first-time configuration of Plum will be more enjoyable experience!

• Bug fixes
Fixed Widget displaying the "Unable to load" message. Stupid oversight on my part led to broken widget on most devices
Fixed album descriptions not being downloaded

Don't forget to leave a review in App Store if you're enjoying Plum!
Thanks
Adam

5.1.1 2020-09-22
• New design for onboarding process
• Fixed small visual glitches caused by iOS 14 update
• Last.fm scrobbles are now being sent at the end of track, instead after listening to only half of it
5.1 2020-09-07
This update took way more than I though it would but it was worth it because:

• Scrobbling to Last.fm is finally here, woohoo! To enable it, go to "Other Settings" page and switch the option. Your username and password are only used during initial login to the service and are not stored anywhere!

• "Liked Songs" playlist for Spotify songs is now available. It contains all individual songs you've liked in Spotify as opposed to the "Songs" tab which also displays songs from saved albums.

• A ton of optimizations and performance improvements under the hood, which especially apply to folders and generally browsing the library.

• New banner look

I'm sure I forgot about something, but those things above should make using Plum a much more enjoyable experience!
If you liked the update, please consider writing a review, thanks!
5.0.2 2020-07-15
• Added option do disable Tab Switcher opening gesture. You can find it in "Others" Settings page
5.0.1 2020-07-11
• This update contains bug fixes and reduces app size
5.0 2020-07-04
Plum 5.0 brings support for Artist and Playlist folders! Create your own collections of Albums or Playlists and use them like any other items, you can pin Folders to Favourite screen or shuffle all songs by using quick actions

Important thing to note: Folders in Plum are completely separate from folders in Spotify. Sadly, at this time, it is not possible to gather any information about playlist folders from Spotify. It works both ways, you will not see folders created in Plum outside of the app.
iTunes playlist folders are fully supported, however they cannot be modified by Plum, therefore it is recommended to re-build them again in Plum, but then again, you will not be able to use them in Music/iTunes app or sync to other devices. Do what works best for you!

Also in this update:
• Reduced app size
• Improved playlist loading times and fixed rare crash happening in some of the playlists
• A lot of under-the-hood improvements for better stability and performance

I'm really excited about this update, I hope you'll enjoy using folders as much as I do!
4.3 2020-06-28
• Support for album folders has been added. You can create your own folders inside of Plum, just open Albums view and select "New Folder".
Folders are visible only in Plum, support for artist and playlist folders will come pretty soon!

• Fixed dark theme sometimes not working
4.2.1 2020-06-08
• Cool new little animation during opening Now Playing screen

• Toggle Dark Mode to enjoy those pure black colors on OLED screens!

• New button in Q[ueue screen lets quickly clear the custom queue

• Adding items to favourites is now much easier, just press the heart symbol in any cell! You can disable symbols in the Appearance Settings page.
4.1.1 2020-05-10
Opening Spotify links and alternative app icons are here!

• In Spotify app, you can open a link to the album, or artist directly in Plum. To do that, go to any album, press "Share > More > Open in Plum"

• Alternative icons! You can now change app icon based on selected theme color. Just select new color and confirm changing the icon. Note that this functionality is available only in full version.

• Huge performance boost, shorter launch time and many bug fixes
4.1 2020-05-05
Do you often find yourself sharing songs you're excited about with friends? Sending screenshots never felt quite right, so from now you can share beautiful image, or link to the song.

To share an image or link to a song you're listening to:
• Go to now playing view > Press artwork to show more options > Press 3-dots button > Press "Share"

• Press and hold on any song's cell and choose the "Share" option

You can also post it directly to Instagram or Facebook stories!

Also in this update:
• You can now insert songs from album into now playing queue. To do it, press and hold on any album and in context menu choose "Insert into queue". Works great if you're listening to, let's say Tame Impala's "Innerspeaker" and want to add songs from "Tame Impala EP" to the mix, just because they work so well together!

• Sorting songs by Artist will now also sort songs by album, instead of track title

Up Next widget is finally here! For the first time in any iOS app see and modify now playing queue from lock screen, without even opening the app. This is a feature I’ve wanted for a very long time and I’m so excited to finally reveal it!
With widget you can:
• Toggle shuffle
• Move songs in queue
• Delete songs from queue

To add the widget go to Today View, scroll down and press „Edit” button and press on the widget called „Now Playing” with Plum’s icon
3.7 2020-03-10
I know I say this quite often but this one is a really awesome update! What’s new:

• Completely redesigned Favourites screen - items are now presented in sections based on their type (playlists, artists, albums, songs) instead of being crumbled into one screen which often was confusing and hard to read. On top of that you can choose to sort favourites by their last played date so you can easily access the recently played songs and collections!
• Much better performance - a ton of UI issues have been solved and the scrolling in all screens is now buttery smooth!
• Better handling of internet connection changes - Plum will now restore playback to its last position before connection was dropped. That’s something that should have been implemented from day 1 but hey, better late than never!

…and bug fixes, a lot of them actually. I really hope you’ll enjoy the new favourites implementation, it became my favourite feature pretty quickly for sure!

Writing a review greatly helps with reaching new users, if you enjoy Plum please leave one in the App Store. Thanks a lot, you’re the best!

3.6 2020-02-14
This update took more time than I have planned but it's totally worth it!

• Spotlight integration – search for songs and playlists right from your phone's home screen. You can customize a lot about it in the settings. Cool!
• Home screen shortcuts – press and hold on Plum's app icon to reveal shortcut actions. They allow you to quickly access most recently played songs or shuffle entire library. Very cool!
• Search screen now shows 5 most recent searches so you can quickly recall them. Cool and good
• Upside-down orientation – unfortunately this only works on non-notched devices. I find it very useful while having my phone charged in the car and playing music from it. Pretty cool!
• You can now open search screen from Favorites tab. Yay! (why wasn't it possible before anyway...)

A lot of bugs have been squashed and few memory leaks have been patched
3.5.3 2020-01-21
• Fixed prevent sleep option
• Fixed disappearing index view in Playlists screen
3.5.2 2020-01-18

• New gestures:
- Swipe left or right on now playing artwork to change songs

• Improved lyrics searching for artists with special characters in their names
• Fixed repeat bug where the queue would start playing again if the repeat option was disabled
...and other bug fixes.

There has been a slight change in how in-app purchases are handled inside the app so you might have to open settings and restore them. Sorry for the inconvenience!

• Improved switcher screen design
• Removed full screen swipe gesture which opened/closed the now playing screen

• Exclude from queue - Don't like the particular album from the artist? Now you will be able to remove songs from that album from now playing queue by holding down on the album cell and choosing appropriate option
• Move up in queue - You will see a new button next to every song in queue view. Pressing it will move the song up in queue, so it will be played right after the current track. You can hide this button from Other settings page
• Enhanced previews - Layout of previews shown after long pressing on an item has been improved and now has much nicer look
