New in 22.04.1: Compound Time Signature toggle; Return to start position in a Playlist; Clear accents/slashes/ties individually
Compound Time Signatures
---
Technically, 6/8 should be written as two groups of 3x8th notes, with the tempo being related to a dotted quarter note.
Sometimes in music with mixed time signatures, you may want 6/8 to be used as a regular time signature.
To account for the two options, you'll now see a "Compound Sig: ON/OFF" button when adding a time signature that's a multiple of 3 on the numerator.
When adding bars to a Playlist from the Add Items dialog, you must tap on the time signature to bring up a pop-up time signature picker with the Compound Sig button. This pop-up picker also contains irregular denominators (in case you're playing music with time signatures like 4/5!!)
Return to start position in a Playlist
---
In the Playlist controls you'll see an improved interface for defining what should happen when playback is stopped. You can choose to do nothing, to return to the top of the Playlist, to return to the top of the section, or to return to where playback started from.
Clear Accents/Ties/Slashes/etc
---
Previously, when tapping the Clear button when editing Accents/Slashes/etc, everything on the top line would be cleared. Now, you have the option to clear just the accents, or just the ties, or just the slashes.
Check What’s New in Help for detailed instructions and videos on how to use all these new features.

22.01.3
2022-01-12
This update improves the Mixer Lock functionality (view What's New in Help for video explanation)
NEW: Mixer Lock improvements
---
- Turning on Mixer Lock will leave it enabled when you close the Giant Fader. That means you can use the regular mixer to change volumes for the entire playlist. The mixer will have a red border when mixer lock is enabled.
- When you enable Mixer Lock by tapping the padlock, the fader strip will turn dark red. This means Mixer Lock is enabled and any volume changes will be applied to the entire playlist. To apply the existing volume of the Giant Fader you’re viewing, tap the fader handle and the strip will turn bright red to indicate the volume has been set for the Playlist.
- To adjust the volume of just a single preset when in mixer lock: tap to show the Giant Fader, disable Mixer Lock by tapping the padlock, make the change, then tap the padlock again to re-enable Mixer Lock.
- If the Playlist is in edit mode with certain items selected, Mixer Lock volume changes will only be applied to the selected items.
- If Mixer Lock is disabled, but you have a Section Header selected, Volume Changes will be applied to the entire section.
NEW: Marker position improvements
---
- If you change the Marker Position of a Playlist item while in Mixer Lock, you’ll be asked if you want to set the same position for the entire playlist.
- If you change the Marker Position while the Playlist is in edit mode with multiple items selected, you’ll be asked if you want to modify it for the selected items.
- If you change the Marker Position while a Section Header is selected, you’ll be asked if you want to change it for the entire section.
Selected Items:
---
- If a Playlist is in Edit mode with multiple items selected, mixer changes or Marker Position updated will be applied to only the selected items.

2.5.7
2020-08-11
I'm really excited about this update! I hope you'll love it.
Changes include...
IMPROVED LOOK
---
I gave everything a fresh lick of paint to make things easier on the eyes. I hope you like it.
NEW SOUND PICKER
---
The new sound picker provides a much quicker way of setting and saving sounds.
- Once in the sound picker, you can set sounds for both Sequencers, and the Metronome, without having to leave the page
- You can see exactly which sounds are assigned to which buttons
- You can save the sounds assigned to a Sequencer or Metronome to a sound "Set". You can then load those sounds from the Set with a single tap in future.
To learn about the intricacies of the Sound Picker, be sure to check out the What's New section in PolyNome's Help page.
PLAYLIST MANAGER
---
- When selecting multiple items, if they have a known practice time, the total practice time will be displayed in the navigation bar. Useful when choosing playlists to work on in a practice session.
PLAYLISTS
---
- Pop-up playlist controls buttons when you scroll a Playlist provide quick access to settings.
- You can now tap on the Playlist name and set the same sounds for the entire Playlist in one go! You can also go into edit mode and select just some of the Playlist items, then set the sounds for those in one go from the Actions menu.
- There's a new "Jump to section" option if you have "Jump To Top When Stop" enabled in Playlist Controls.
- Tapping a section header and setting tempo will apply it to the entire section.
- Quick Access has an Expand button on the left. This will load the contents into the Playlist to let you re-arrange, delete, or add items to your Quick Access list.
- When tapping the gear button on a Playlist item, the Reps is now available in a picker view. This makes it much faster to change the reps of individual items.
- A new Practice Log button has been added to the Playlist toolbar. Click it to jump to the Practice Log for that Playlist
PRACTICE LOG
---
- Daily Journal button added for quick access to the Journal.
- Goal button added for quick setting of Goals for Presets and Playlists.
PREFERENCES
---
The Preferences page has been cleaned up, and things like Tempo settings have been grouped together. Some of the additions are:
Tempo Settings
- Decimal Tempo option in Tempo Settings
- AutoSave Tempo Changes in Tempo Settings
Demo Presets/Playlists Settings
- Disable auto install of Demo Presets with App Updates
- Re-install the latest demos (in case you deleted them, or had auto update off)
Big Numbers Colors
- In the Big Numbers Colors page, tap either the background, big number, or details text to set and save the color you desire
EDIT PATTERN PAGE
---
- At the top of the picker on the left you'll see a bar line "|". Selecting this will give you options for filling the bar, no matter what the time signature. Great for quick creation of gap clicks
- Split Notes option when editing a note group now applies to any rate.
EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS
---
- On iPhone, double tap on a Preset or Playlist item to be taken back to the metronome screen
- You can now link the Line1 and Line2 faders in the mixer for quick muting of a Sequencer
If you read this far, thank you for taking an interest in the new features. If you want to support further development of the app, please consider leaving (or updating) a review. They really help.

2.5.6
2020-06-25
This update includes: Gap Click Builder, Quick Access Improvements, Split Notes option in rhythm entry, Practice Log Archiving and more...
If you enjoy these improvements, please consider leaving or updating a review on the App Store. It really helps.
Here are the details. For a video demonstrating the features, check out the what's new page in the in-app Help.
Gap Click builder
---
With the recent interest in Gap Clicks I decided to add a Gap Click builder to the Playlist Manager. It allows you to very quickly create any gap click you might want.
Whether you want quarter notes followed by silence, or a complex combination of displaced clicks, you can do it all quickly and easily and save your custom click for re-use.
Quick Access
---
The Quick Access row at the bottom of the Playlist has had an overhaul. You can now Save and Load Quick Access lists, as well as populate the Quick Access list from an index Playlist. For example, if you install the Stick Control book from the Public Library, when you load the Index you can use it to populate the Quick Access row. Then, you can jump to any page in the book from the Quick Access panel.
Split Notes
---
Want to enter an 8th note triplet with the middle note split into 16ths? Or a group of 16th notes where the last note is 2x 32nds? You can do this easily using the "Split Notes" option in the edit menu.
Practice Log Archiving
---
If you have many practice events from past years and it's slowing down the stats in the Practice Log, you can now archive events. You'll find more information at the bottom of the Practice Log page. Tap Archive Events to learn more.
Efficiency Improvements
---
• You can now set tempos/reps for a section in a Playlist by selecting just the section header.
• Section Headers are clearer
• When duplicating multiple items in a Playlist, if they're not sequential, the duplicates will be added to the end of the list.
• When adding links to Playlists, the process is faster and more intuitive
2.5.4
2020-05-13
There are some great new features for you in 2.5.4!
The bullets are below. You can find out more details in the Help file under What's New.
Main page
•Option to hide Seq2 when in Landscape on iPhone.
•Polyrhythm moved to main menu. When you create a Polyrhythm, whatever you were working on will be saved and the default Polyrhythm preset will be loaded and populated with default polyrhythm sounds. If you modify sounds and save, those new sounds will be used for future polyrhythms. If you delete the Polyrhythm preset in the Presets Library it will be re-created with default sounds next time you create a polyrhythm.
Edit Pattern Page
•You can split a sticking in Line 1 (e.g. RLRRLRRR) by long pressing on an empty Line 2 and choosing "Move Stickings From Line 1".
Super Quick Tempo
•If PolyNome is stopped when you load the Quick Tempo Entry page, the bottom right button becomes a play button for super quick starting.
Playback
•When you have an accented roll (notated with slashes), only the first note of the roll will be accented.
•Open hi-hats will only be cut short by other hi-hat sounds on the same line.
•Ruffs and Drags on hi-hats now work properly.
Playlist
•Long press an item to jump to edit mode with that item selected. From there you can quickly rearrange, or loop selected items
•New "Save In Playlist" option when you choose "Save As" from the Disk Button menu on the main page (if there's a Playlist loaded). This makes creating a Playlist with multiple items VERY fast.
•If you have a Playlist item loaded and you changing tempo/loops/timer on the main page, PolyNome will not prompt you to save when you load another playlist item. Swiping to the main page and tapping the "reps" button is a quick way to loop and work on a single item from a Playlist.
•When editing a Playlist you can now see the reorder handles
Paste Attributes
•The Paste Attributes page now has the ability to Paste both Seq1 and Seq2 attributes at the same time, or paste attributes from one sequencer into both
Bug Fixes
•Opening PolyNome in split screen on an iPad? I finally fixed the bug where everything was messed up!
•Fixed accent levels when playing back within a playlist.
•Fixed bug where Playlist scrolling became unresponsive after playing for a while.
If you enjoy PolyNome and have time to leave or update a review, it's really appreciated.
Thanks again for using PolyNome.
Stay safe!
2.5.3
2020-04-27
There are so many new features in v2.5.3, and I'm really excited for you to get your hands on it. There's still more that I want to add, but I needed to draw a line so I could get this long overdue update to you.
First the big fun features:
Basic Functions:
You can now set the Time Signature from the main page and PolyNome will automatically fill the bar for you. This is helpful for creating basic metronome clicks.
Shift/Randomise:
The Shift/Randomise controller allows you to lock an action to the main screen. You can then randomise or shift the rhythm or sounds while playback is happening. You can have it perform the locked action automatically every x repeats. This allows you to create an ever changing groove or melody creator, or create random exercises or ear training challenges!
Quick Polyrhythm Creation:
Tap on the Preset name and choose "Create Polyrhythm" to quickly generate any polyrhythm in a number of ways.
Playlist Linking:
You can now add links to Playlists within other Playlists. This has many possibilities including a quick way to group playlists together for practice sessions or live performance.
Playlist Soloing:
You can select items from a playlist and solo them (with the new button in the Actions bar at the bottom). Only soloed items will play - allowing you to work on small sections of a Playlist very easily.
Now the full list...
Main Page:
- Met1/Met2 have been renamed to Seq1 and Seq2
- Overlay Sounds have been renamed to Metronome
- You can now swipe on longer patterns in the main window to see what's off the screen
- Pinch to zoom on notation
- Menus for Swing, Random Mute, Randomise have been revamped
- New Sounds (808/909/John Bonham/etc. Voice for Push/Pull and more)
- Improvements to Big Numbers display. This can now be turned on from the main menu.
- BIG Improvements to the Mixer. A menu on the left allows you to narrow down which faders are visible, and you can now swipe on the body of the faders to scroll
- In Preferences you can choose 2-10bpm for the steps it will jump when you long press +/- buttons
- On iPad, the Library section can now be made full screen
PLAYLISTS:
- Count-ins will remain with the item they count in when shuffling a Playlist
- Count-in tempo will be updated automatically when you change the tempo of the item it counts in
- Playlist solo button allows you to only play back selected items
- Link to other Playlists within a Playlist
- Choose your button size (long press the Play button and use the slider to set size)
- Improved "Tap To Start" functionality in Playlists (tap the Gear button and enable "Tap Tempo Start" to use it)
PRACTICE LOG:
- Multi-select in Practice Log event view for deleting multiple events at a time
- Tap and hold a Practice Event to edit it
I hope you enjoy these new features.
Please get in touch at support@polynome.net if you have any questions or feedback, or find any bugs.
And if you have time to leave an updated review, that's always appreciated.
Thanks!
Joe
2.5.2
2020-01-09
Happy New Year!
Version 2.5.2 of PolyNome adds the option to set the text size for Playlists. This is really handy if you're playing live and want a clear view of your setlist!
It also fixes issues where some of the tutorial videos did not play. If you're still getting your head around PolyNome, you might want to revisit those.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed bug with incorrect AutoCounting when a group of notes started with a rest
- Fixed bug where individual 16th notes didn't react to swing setting
- Fixed bug where using AirTurn to change tempo would crash the app
- Fixed bug where tempo was incorrect if using dotted quarter note as the base
Please let me know if you find any bugs by contacting me through the Help page, or emailing support@polynome.net
If you like PolyNome and have time to leave a review - thank you!!
Enjoy!
2.5.1
2019-10-25
2.5.1 adds the following features:
- Tap Tempo Start
Have you ever been in a situation where you want to play to a click, but the guitarist or pianist wants to start the song on their own? Now it's easy... In a Playlist, tap the gear button on the right and enable "Tap Tempo Start". You can choose the number of taps. Then, when you get to that item in the Playlist, just tap the play button in time with the guitarist and PolyNome will start in time with your tapping!
- "Ready, And" voice cue in Playlists.
On the Playlist Controls page, when Auto Advance and Play When Advancing are on, you can choose a "Ready, And" voice cue that will cue you as the next item is about to start. (This used to be part of the "Announce Item" feature, and it used to say "3, 4", but that wasn't great in odd time signatures.)
It also fixes some bugs. Please let me know via the Help or About page if you find any others.
If you have time to leave (or update) an App Store review, it's much appreciated and really helps with future development.
Any questions, just get in touch via the App.
Thanks for using PolyNome!

2.5.0
2019-10-17
2.5.0 fixes a bug where the screen changed size when using an iPad.
It also adds these features:

In case you missed the new features in 2.4.9....
BIG FEATURES
---------------
** New Voice Counting Options (Pro)**
- Tapping on a Metronome you'll see a new option for "Auto Counting". This will add voice counting to your rhythm to help you (or your student) learn how to count it!
- If you prefer to add counting manually, or you want to use voice numbers for something different, there's a new sound entry page called "Counting" that gives you buttons for the numbers 1 through 12, along with subdivision voice sounds. You can assign them to the rhythm as you wish.
** Tempo Improvements **
- Tapping and holding the tempo nudge buttons will now increment/decrement the tempo in steps of 10bpm. Or, if you prefer, by classical metronome steps (the behaviour can be set in Preferences)
- On the Quick Tempo Entry page, you'll now see the classical tempo terms under the tempo. You can swipe them to move between them, or tap on the label for a drop down of all terms. Choosing a term will set the tempo to the middle of the defined range.
- Swipe tempo is back!
** Backup Improvements **
- There's a new "Backup All" option in the Backup menu. This will create a single file containing all of your Presets, Playlists and Practice Events. You can AirDrop it to another device (for syncing), or save it to files.
(NOTE: You can only import this file into PolyNome version 2.4.9 and above)
- Importing is much faster in 2.4.9, and the most recent version of a Preset or Playlist is the one that's kept if a duplicate exists.
SMALL FEATURES

- On the Playlist page, if you select an item and choose "Add Count In" from the + menu, it now adds a named count in with voice counting before the selected item.
- You can set Playlist items to SKIP when reached. This is great for Count Ins that you only want to hear the first time the Playlist loops. Set this by tapping the gear button of the relevant item, or by selecting multiple items and choosing "AutoAdvance Options" from the Actions menu.
SMALL FEATURES
------------------
- When Met 2 is empty, there's a new option when you tap on it to "Copy Met 1 to Met 2". Useful if you've entered a rhythm and you need more than 2 lines of sounds.
- When in a Playlist and you tap the "rep" button on the main screen, it will loop the current pattern.
- Prompt about unsaved changes when entering Playlist Manager or Creating New preset to stop you accidentally losing changes.
- Taller flashing blocks at the top of the screen.
Enjoy these new features.
If you have time to leave (or update) an App Store review, it's much appreciated and really helps with future development.
Any questions, just get in touch via the App.
Thanks for using PolyNome!

2.4.5
2019-04-06
This update brings a few new features and fixes a few minor bugs.
New Features
--------------
MUTE LINK: Tap "Random Mute" on Met 1, you'll find new options to link the muting of the Overlay Sounds, and of Met 2, to the muting of Met 1.
SWING LINK: Tap "Swing" and you'll see a new option to link the Overlay Swing. When turned on, the "1,e,+,a" overlay sounds will be swung to the same degree as Met 1. (NOTE: when the swing setting is 8th notes, the 'e' and 'a' won't be swung and it might sound strange if you have those faders up.)
PLAYLIST MERGING: When you merge Playlists in Playlist Manager, the Auto Advance and Voice Announce settings will be honoured. Check the "What's New" in Help to see a video of this in action.
PLAYLIST ACTIONS: Select multiple Playlist items and tap Actions. There are new actions under Auto Advance Options for setting the Cue Sound.
FIXES
------
- When loading a Playlist from the Quick Access list, it will load properly in the main window.
- Accent Reset for Detached Accents is now honoured properly.
- Fixed bug that crashed PolyNome on first load of a new build.
- Fixed some Auto Voice Announce issues.
