Fondata da un team di dee-jay e professionisti della comunicazione con in comune la passione della black music, Radio X è diventata ben presto una stazione “cult”, non solo nella città di Cagliari dove trasmette i suoi programmi sulla frequenza dei 96.8 ma tra schiere di appassionati che la ascoltano via Internet da ogni angolo del mondo.

Prima webradio d’Europa (in diretta dal febbraio del 1995), Radio X ha fatto della musica di qualità e dell'uso creativo delle nuove tecnologie della comunicazione due punti di forza, riuscendo a coniugare una visione globale a una forte vocazione alla "radioattività" in ambito locale, messa in atto attraverso serate, programmi dal vivo, eventi culturali e altre attività live.
