About RealADSB

RealADSB app is intended for stationary observers of local air traffic. It can consume traffic feed generated by adsb_hub or adsb_hub3 server application. With some limitations traffic feed in SBS-1 BaseStation format (port 30003) is also supported. For example Stratux ADS-B device or ADSBx feeder can produce such feed. Another option to get traffic feed is to use Airplanes.live API integration. That could be a good way to start using app because such option doesn't require additional hardware.

You can setup traffic feed yourself or use one of the public feeds covering Germany, UK and New York. adsb_hub server application is using Java runtime and can run on PC, Mac or Raspberry Pi. It can work on top of FlightAware, FR24 feeders or generate feed using cheap USB adapter and external antenna. For more information please check our web site http://www.realadsb.com

Inside mobile app commercial, private and military aircrafts are shown on map or in scrollable list sorted by distance from reference point. It can be your current location or airport defined by ICAO code such as LFPG. When ICAO code entered special button provides access to METAR and aircrafts below transition altitude will have altitude adjusted using barometric pressure of the airport. There is a way to search/filter aircrafts by tail number, callsign, type, altitude in both list and on map. Additionally 2 layers with airports and weather are available on map.

For each airframe following basic parameters shown:
* Speed, Altitude, Heading, Rate of climb/descend, Squawk
and for most of them there is additional information:
* Tail number, Callsign, ICAO type, Origin/Destination, Photo

If information about tail number or type of aircraft is missing you can easily add it right inside the app. This change will be automatically shared across all devices that using same iCloud account.

Other features:
* Quick access to online resources including FlightAware, Google Flights, LiveATC etc.
* Push notifications for special squawks 7500/7600/7700
* Imperial or metric units
* 3 types of map: standard, satellite and hybrid
* Sharing of map with aircrafts using standard iOS Sharing Panel
* Barometric pressure and altitude measured by mobile device conveniently shown at the bottom of main menu

Last update in 2023:
* Vertical profile graph is now showing barometric pressure, Mach number, indicated speed and MCP altitude extracted from the Mode S Enhanced Surveillance (EHS) messages. Such messages are only available when app is connected to adsb_hub3 server application version 3.9 or newer with rtl_tcp, beast_tcp or sbs_tcp input. Also Surveillance tab has been added to show FMS altitude, true airspeed, magnetic heading and many other parameters. Since EHS messages are sent by airplanes in a response to a calls from a ground based radar their number vary a lot depending on location, antenna, time of the day, obstructions and other factors. You can connect to the KEWR public feed available in the app to see how it works. Airplanes with EHS information are marked with cross icon next to a heading in list of airplanes.
* Update database of airplanes

I'd like to use this opportunity and wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Feb 24, 2023
1) Further expanding integration with OpenSky API by adding 2 more options controlled inside app settings:
* Reduced Range - if enabled reduces range of the radar from 250 miles to 125 miles, that causing app to consume less API credits effectively double the time you can use it, disabled by default
* Download Tracks - if enabled app will download available track for selected aircraft from API, its completeness depends on OpenSky coverage for different areas of the world, also it consumes API credits, disabled by default
2) Updated database of airplanes
3) Fixed icon for helicopters with ICAO type EN48 (Enstrom 480)

* Integration with OpenSky API for iPhone/iPad to get traffic feed straight to mobile device, for better experience registration on opensky-network.org website is recommended. Apple Watch is unable to use OpenSky API and still requires adsb_hub3 server software
* Correct vertical order of airplanes on map, i.e. aircraft flying at FL380 will be on top of airplanes flying at lower flight levels, except selected airplane which will be always on top
* Introduced support for ground vehicles identified by artificial ICAO type GND

This update is exposing information about vertical profile of the track for selected aircraft in graphical and textual forms.
In order to see it, select aircraft and tap white area at bottom-right corner of the map (above -/+ zoom buttons) which contains max/min altitude and duration of the track.
You can select particular point on graph by touching window and dragging finger left and right.
Heading, speed and vertical speed can be missing for vertical profile if you're using adsb_hub3 older than version 3.7
Database of everything flying was also updated.

*** Happy New 2022 ***
