About Roman Numerals Quiz Master
Roman Numerals Quiz Master is a multiple-choice based quiz program for converting Roman Numerals to Arabic Numerals, and vice versa.
Brief Roman Numerals Introduction:
Roman numerals are made up with the following letters:
* I : 1
* V : 5
* X : 10
* L : 50
* C : 100
* D : 500
* M : 1000
The calculation of its numeric value follows these two principles:
- The Additive Principle: The value of a Roman Numeral is calulated by adding up all the digits, with the largest numbers on the left, down to the smallest on the right. For example, CLXXVII = 100 + 50 + 10 + 10 + 5 + 1 + 1 = 178.
- The Subtractive Principle: Some numbers can be written with a smaller numeral on the left of a larger numeral, which requires subtraction. This provides a shortcut that saves writing space. For example, the value 4 is written as IV (i.e. 5 - 1) instead of IIII. However, the only subtractive combinations allowed are:
* IV : 4
* IX : 9
* XL : 40
* XC : 90
* CD : 400
* CM : 900
Note: for larger numbers, a horizontal overline is required to make the number a multiple of 1000. For example, IV with an overline is 4000 and XVI with an overline is 16000.
App Features:
- Quizzes for converting Roman Numerals to Arabic Numerals, and vice versa.
- Powerful Quiz generation engine: all quizzes are auto-generated, providing unlimited possibilities.
- Configurable: the numbers can range from 1 to 9999, and the range of numbers is user-configurable and it must consist of at least 50 values.
- Performance monitoring for each quiz type.
- Built-in Stop Watch to time the user's' problem solving capability.
- Universal App - works on iPhone and iPad devices.
