About RUClosed - Snow Day

RUClosed provides a clean, easy-to-use, interface that allows users to track closings nationwide. Whether it’s your school, work, or church, this nifty little app provides the flexibility to see cancellations of all types in cities across the United States.

Why waste your time on other snow day closing apps that simply give a best-guess prediction when RUClosed can tell you with near 100% certainty if your place is closed. RUClosed also provides contact information, such as phone numbers and web sites for quick and easy verification of the closing details.

Users can favorite cities and specific places and RUClosed provides them with real-time updates as well as the ability to share closings with their friends. The database of closings also allows users to easily see how many times places have been closed going back to January 2018.

Whether it’s stormy weather, burst water pipes or a last-second change in schedule, if there is a closing, RUClosed will know about it.

Recently added: Push Notifications messages for closings of your Favorite Cities and Favorite Places. Just enable Notifications when the App prompts you or in the App Settings and you will receive a message when a closing status changes. No email address or phone numbers are required for this new feature.

A huge thing to mention is that Push Notifications are undergoing a big change on my end. Microsoft discontinued their Push Notification service for small businesses (like mine) so I've had to migrate RUClosed to use their Azure Push Notification service. You will have to upgrade to the new version of RUClosed after Jan 1, 2021 to get push notifications to work again.

Some bug fixes to get in before the end of the year. I hope your holiday season is a safe and happy one!

One of the issues with the ads got resolved so you may see ads again. Or you may not. It's still pretty much out of my hands.

In this release:
NO ADS! I'm sure most users will absolutely love this. Well, it wasn't my choice to remove the ads. Unfortunately, my Ad Network provider (and you can likely "G"uess who) has said RUClosed is in violation of their ad serving policies and shut down the ads in RUClosed. I have worked for the past 5 weeks to resolve this but have gotten nowhere and they offer no help in return.

So, in the interim, I have removed all ads starting with this release. I did this to restore the look and feel of the app so the app pages look presentable again. I still hope to resolve the ad issue and restore the ads or move the app to a pay version with no ads, etc.

Added a few more cities, squashed a few bugs, and made it easy for you to rate and review RUClosed. Just go to the About Page and tap the "Review App" option. It's been just a month since the release of RUClosed and the closings continue to come in fast and furious. Winter is definitely upon us. The highest day of record was just 2 weeks ago on January 30th when RUClosed reported almost 40,000 closings that day (yes, RUClosed lets you go back in time to view past closing information, check it out!)

New in this version:
- Redesign of Closings page, added sorting options
- Added Setup for first-time users to help them figure out the closest metro area for their closing information. Some existing users may also see this Setup dialog. When prompted, please allow the app to access your current location.
- Fix for non-English devices which caused network errors
- Upgrade of a 3rd-party software framework - this should fix those app crashes some of you saw

Our regular updates include performance and UI improvements and bug fixes to make the app faster and more reliable.

Sacramento CA has been added to the list of supported metro areas and there are more cities coming soon. If there is a metro area that you would like added, please let us know.

Speaking of bugs, there is one particular one we'd like to mention because it causes the app to crash. You might see it if you bring the app to the foreground, all looks well, then boom, RUClosed disappears. We've been able to determine that the cause of the crash lies in a 3rd party software framework that we use. We've also been told that the fix for this bug will be in their next release. We apologize for any inconvenience to you.

In our quest to make the Search for Places feature faster, we did speed things up. But unfortunately, we also introduced a bug which could result in an App crash on the Places tab. Fixed it in this release. Learned a long time ago that it doesn't matter how fast something runs if the end result is the wrong answer.

We continue to fix other bugs and add more features in our quest to provide a solid, useful App experience for you! If you're not happy with RUClosed, please let us know via the Feedback link in the App.
