The Assembler Description
Learn Assembly programming and binary operations by painting little pixel art pieces. The app teaches different operations in each of the ten chapters. For each of the chapters you program an image with a limited set of commands. Eight rows of 8-Bit Registers turn into your canvas. Use Assembly to manipulate the values in every register, thus creating an 8x8 painting.

'The Assembler' was made as a small and fun introduction to Assembly, Programming and the Binary system that powers it all. The first version of this app was made for the Swift Student Challenge 2022 and won!

I hope that you enjoy this project as much as I have.

Wohoooo! I hope that I published this before the end of 2024. I’m excited to show you some things I’ve been working on.

First, I’ve addressed a pesky crash on macOS. You can now actually open the levels menu without the app crashing. WOW!

Next I’ve finally added support for Dark and tinted icons, and that for all of the icons. My personal favourite is probably the Dark-Mini-Icon, with the Light-Flat one as a close second.

For iPhone, I’ve gotten some great suggestions from you. With Peek-and-Pop, you can now preview solutions with ease. When you hold the button leading to the solution image, you now get to see the image pop up and your typed command. Once you let go of the button the view disappears. That way you can check your command before executing it!
I've also added new animations when you type, I had quite some fun picking them, I hope you like them too!

Recognising that all those animations are a bit too much for some, I’ve added support for reduced motion. This means if you prefer to minimise movement for a calmer interface, you can do just that. All you have to do is toggle ‚Reduce Motion‘ in the systems accessibility settings.

To keep things fresh and challenging, I’ve changed up some chapters. Here (again) I’ve got some great suggestions from users.

Finally, I’ve worked on fixing some text contrast issues, ensuring that everything you read is clear and easily legible. (Especially the small one in the introduction.)

Each update is designed with you in mind, aiming to make the Assembler a bit more delightful.
It’s been a wild year for me and this app, thank you to involved in this.

Happy learning!
