Hello release notes readers! You’ll be pleased to know we’ve listened to your feedback and over the last months have been busy rebuilding our video player from the ground up. Here’s everything that’s new and will make your ThreeNow experience much better.
• Brand new player: We’ve rebuilt our video player from scratch with two main objectives - speed and stability. The new player handles playback requests a lot better and will make watching content and ads smoother, faster and a lot less prone to these awful crashes.

• Enhanced Chromecast experience: We’ve also rebuilt how we handle communication between your mobile device and the Chromecast receiver, making it easier and faster than ever to watch ThreeNow shows and movies on the big screen. You can now also increase/lower the volume using your phone’s physical button. Remember that at this stage Chromecast only works when watching VOD content, not livestream. We’re working hard to be able to turn that on as soon as possible.

• Ad reliability: Watching ads is what enables us to offer all of the great content available on ThreeNow. But we try hard to make sure the ads don’t play when they shouldn’t or cause you other problems when you’re trying to watch a show. In this major update, we’ve made sure you don’t have to sit through more ads just because you received a phone call, clicked the home button by accident or wanted to rewind 10 seconds back.

• Closed Captions are now available on some content. We’re working on making it easier to identify where they are available when browsing the app, watch this space.

• We’re now providing you with clearer, more informative error messages, for instance if you’re trying to watch content from outside New Zealand.
• New notifications experience, giving you
faster and more tailored notifications to keep you up to date with all things ThreeNow.
We really hope you enjoy this overhaul release, if you run into any issues or have general feedback, please get in touch via the ThreeNow website.
