What’s new in Todoist?

- Thanks to some under-the-hood adjustments, special characters are now allowed in the names of projects, sections, and labels.
- New reminders Quick Add shortcut: Save yourself several taps by typing “!” in the task field to add a reminder (or several) to your time-sensitive to-do’s.
- And while we were adding the reminder shortcut, we made a few other design updates to make the whole reminder experience clearer, faster, and more intuitive.
- Plus, we’ve set out to overhaul and vastly simplify creating a filter. Just describe what you’re looking for using natural language. The new, AI-powered Filter Assist will generate the filter query for you to add directly to your Todoist.

Tap “What’s New” in your settings to learn more about all the updates.

A few pesky bugs have been dealt with, but these two were top of the list:
- Tab on an iPad keyboard works exactly like MacOS to jump from task title to description. As it should.
- Creating a filter query that referred to a project, was resulting in some app crashes. Not ideal, but no longer a problem because it’s fixed!

— Your widget won’t crash anymore when there’s information missing.
— If you add a location-based reminder but don’t have the right permissions set, you’ll now get a nudge that shows you how.
— Today view will once again display tasks due today for both you and everyone else.

Lastly, we added a new Today widget for your desktop. Tap “What’s New” in your settings to view all the updates.

17.1 2020-12-10
• Just a bit of under-the-hood maintenance.
17.0 2020-12-08
• There will now be one simple way to create an uncompletable task: Prefix a task with an asterisk and space as in “* New task”. We’re removing support for the colon (:) syntax, so tasks ending with a colon (:) will become regular tasks again, no data lost. This change is to prevent people from accidentally creating these types of tasks. Learn more about uncompletable tasks on our help center.
• Plus a few other little fixes.
16.1 2020-12-01
• Pesky bugs exterminated. Things should be a bit better for you.
16.0 2020-11-24
• To give you even more fine-tuned control over which tasks you see in Todoist, we’re introducing new sorting options. You’ll now be able to sort your task list in any order, group your tasks together in new ways, or filter your tasks by who’s responsible. To use the new options, tap the three dots icon in the top right, then tap Sort and pick your settings.
• Now add project names in Japanese without a hitch.

• Completing tasks is even more delightful, now that there's a cheery sound when you tap. Head to Settings > General to test it out.
• Reminders will remember your preferences for the day to start your week.
• If your Task widget wasn’t loading your filtered to-do list, try it again now!
• And emoji in filters won’t cause issues any longer. They make to-do lists so much more fun!

14.0 2020-10-12
• Schedule tasks even faster now that Todoist automatically detects dates written in Traditional Chinese.
• Tasks will once again appear in the section you’ve added it to — even when using Quick Add in your Today or Upcoming views.
• The new Tasks widget for iOS 14 is more useful than ever now that you can see more tasks, even in the smallest size.
• Edit a task and Todoist will keep your priority level the way you set it, as expected.
• It’s a bit easier to reschedule, rearrange, and reprioritize tasks with a menu. Now that menu’s back when you select multiple tasks.
• Sort your tasks or switch to and from Board view without any more crashes.
• And, in case you missed it, Todoist Boards is here! Just open any project, press the menu icon in the top right, and select “View as Board”.
13.0 2020-09-23
• Introducing Todoist Boards: A more visual way to organize your projects. Drag tasks between sections, visualize your progress, and simplify your teamwork. To get started, open any project, press the menu icon in the top right, and select “View as Board”. Rearrange your project by dragging and dropping tasks and sections, and use the “Add Section” button the far right to add a new section. Learn all about Boards at blog.doist.com.

• New sleek and, dare we say, gorgeous Todoist widgets for iOS 14 let you organize and personalize your iOS Home screen and Today View.
• Tasks widget: Check the to-do list of your choice without opening Todoist with this widget — in three sizes.
• Productivity widget: Keep your achievements front and center with a widget that shows your current progress toward daily and weekly goals as well as your Karma stats.
• Add Task widget: Quickly add repeated tasks by setting the name, project, section, due date, priority, and/or label of tasks you do over and over again.
• Plus, make Todoist part of your bedtime routine by adding shortcuts to the app in your new iOS 14 Wind Down settings.
12.4.7 2020-09-14
• You can now properly open sub-folders in Google Drive.
• There’s never a good time for a crash, but especially not right after you sign up. That’s been fixed!
• A few small formatting and icon display fixes to keep Todoist looking polished.
12.4.6 2020-09-07
• If you tried to remove a task’s due date and that date remained, try again. You’re in control of your schedule — not sneaky Todoist bugs!
• We checked a few things off our to-do list so you could more easily check a few things off yours.
12.4.5 2020-08-25
• Skip to the important updates about your shared projects with the handy new Unread tab in the notification view.
• Smartly schedule tasks with new one-click options like “later this week”, “this weekend”, and “next weekend”. (Which are intelligent enough to only show up when you need them.) Because planning happens on Saturdays and Sundays, too.
• Customize your scheduler by setting the day that starts your weekend (and also the day that begins your week, too). Head to Settings > General.
• Adding a new section? Do it faster by simply dragging the big Dynamic Add button to the far left of any project.
• A handful of little bugs were squashed and potential crashes averted. Phew!
12.4.4 2020-08-11

12.4.3 2020-08-04
• Just the general fixes and improvements you’ve come to expect from us.
12.4.2 2020-07-21
• We’ve done the usual fixing and squashing to keep things working as they should be.
12.4.1 2020-07-14
• When looking at the Today, or any filter view, you’ll no longer see sub-tasks inline by expanding the task — you should now tap on a task to see your sub-tasks in task view. This is meant to keep the user experience cleaner and reduce the product, design, and engineering complexity. You will still see sub-tasks inline in projects.
• Pesky bugs exterminated. Things should be a bit better for you.
12.4 2020-07-08
• You can now quickly add a task to any section of a project by typing "/". For example, you could type "George W. Carver #Inspiration/Heroes" and the task will be moved to the Heroes section of your Inspiration project.
• You’ll now see sections in your search results, too. So you’re only a quick search away from finding that “Don’t Forget” section in your most important project.
• When adding or editing a task, you’ll notice that the currently selected project AND section are shown below.
• Whether you like your font large for better readability or small for added information, Todoist will follow your lead.

And in case you missed it:

• You can now seamlessly use a mouse or trackpad with Todoist for iPadOS 13.4+. Hover over buttons and your pointer will beautifully morph into them. Right-click a task to open a context menu where you can schedule, prioritize, duplicate, delete, and more. And it's not just tasks. Right-click a project, label, or filter, and you’ll be able to quickly edit it, share it, and add it to your favorites.
• Your long press just got powered up. Whenever you long press any task, project, filter, or label on iOS and iPadOS 13+, you’ll open up the useful new context menu mentioned above.

- We’ve also done a little bug squashing and spring cleaning.
12.1.12 2020-03-25

- [Fixed]: When you create a shortcut on one device, it will once again work on all other synced devices.

- [Fixed] Karma stats weren't aligned properly at the top of the left-hand navigation pane. We put them back where they belong.

- [New] You can now create Shortcuts that use updated, more powerful Todoist actions. For instance, you could create a shortcut to "Add to shopping". When you activate it, you'll be asked for the task's name. Then Todoist will automatically move the new task to your "Shopping" project and set the due date to Saturday (or whatever project/due date works for you!). There's a *lot* more you can do with Shortcuts, so read more at get.todoist.help.

- [Fixed] Free users couldn't access existing task and project comments. That's no longer the case! If you're a Premium user and downgrade to free, you'll still be able to view all of your comments.
- [Fixed] Tapping on the label icon in Task View brought up a dialog about reminders which clearly have nothing to do with labels. That no longer happens.
- [Fixed] The recurring due date icon wasn't showing up in the Today view so you couldn't quickly tell if a task was recurring or not. It's back now.
- [Fixed] Scrolling through comments wasn't always working properly. Comments are once again scrollable in full.

12.0.4 2019-11-11
Say hello to Todoist Foundations: A comprehensive update with faster, more intuitive, more reliable ways to get things done. Check out what’s new below:

- You can now divide your project into Sections. Add a Section from the three dots menu in the top right of any project, then add tasks by dragging them into the section. Try using Sections to arrange your projects by stage (Research, Planning, Launch) or by timeline (Week 1, Week 2, Week 3).

- Manage every detail about a task – its due date, assignee, labels, sub-tasks, comments, and more – in one place with new Task View. Simply tap on the task to see it.

- It’s now easier to manage your sub-tasks right from Task View. Tap on a task to open Task view and add, view and complete its sub-tasks in context.

- Add tasks and sub-tasks right where you want them inside your projects using the new Dynamic Add button. Simply drag the add button to the spot where you want to create the task. You can also add new Sections by dragging the button to the far left of the project.

- Your Labels list will now be divided into “Personal” and “Shared” labels. Whenever someone adds a label to a task in a shared project, you’ll see it in your Shared labels; All the labels you create yourself go into your Personal labels. For those of you who collaborate in Todoist, this change should keep your label list much more organized and manageable.

- Adding tasks just got easier with the more intuitive, redesigned Quick Add. You’ll see small tags below the task name that display the due date, project, and task assignee. You can also now immediately set a reminder using the clock icon.

- Enjoy a more coordinated look across the app with colorful, redesigned icons on every platform.

- You can now see your completed tasks right within your project. Simply select “Show completed tasks” from the three dots menu and you’ll see checked-off tasks right in your project list. You can see them in task view, too.

- You’ll notice a more reliable, more responsive Todoist across the board thanks to a handful of user interface and under-the-hood updates and bug fixes. These also lay the foundation for powerful new features around the corner.

- [New]: When creating a filter query, you'll only see the items that precisely matches the keyword you enter. For example, "#work" will show you tasks in the #work project. If you want to see every project with your keyword in it, then use the * symbol, too: "#work*" will show you #work and #workplace, for example. You may have to update your filters accordingly: Apologies for any inconvenience.

- [Fixed]: "Pinch to Add" is now back by popular demand so you can again pull two tasks apart to create a new task in the middle of a project list.
- [Fixed]: The task count for projects included sections which, of course, are not tasks at all. They are now excluded from the task count. (If you have no idea what we're talking about, go to get.todoist.help and search for "Sections". They are, admittedly, difficult to find at the moment.)

- Todoist Premium subscriptions are now more flexible. When upgrading via Todoist for iOS, you can now choose between a monthly or a yearly plan.
- The task scheduler has been updated to make things easier. You can now access every scheduling option (Today, Next Week, etc.) within one tap — That includes adding a new time, which many of you requested.
- You can now set a task’s time zone to be floating or fixed. Floating will keep a task's due time the same across time zones (9am in New York, 9am in London). Fixed will keep a task's due time in one time zone (9am in New York, 2pm in London). Find the option under Add Time in the scheduler.
