About Twelve Years a Slave Tour

The "12 Years a Slave" Solomon Northup Trail Guide delivers a multi-media tour of the sites related to Solomon's captivity through his own eyes and descriptions, voiced by Academy Award winner Louis Gossett, Jr. Visit 20 sites in Louisiana, most of which were depicted in the Oscar-winning Best Picture, from the slave market in New Orleans where notorious slave trader Theophilus Freeman (played by Paul Giamatti) sold Solomon to his first owner, William Prince Ford (played by Benedict Cumberbatch), to the plantation of cruel slave master Edwin Epps (played by Michael Fassbender), to the site of Solomon's release and departure in Marksville. The Trail Guide is based on Dr. Sue Eakin's research in her Twelve Years a Slave Enhanced Edition.

DR. SUE EAKIN (1918-2009) discovered a dusty copy of Twelve Years a Slave in a plantation home near the old Edwin Epps property where Solomon Northup was enslaved, when she was 12 years old. It would determine her life's path. After decades of research, she produced the first authenticated edition of the book in 1968. In 2007, at age 88, she completed her final, definitive Enhanced Edition with over one hundred pages of additional information, never-before-published images and unique maps related to the story. Dr. Eakin was also a Louisiana Hall of Fame journalist and civil rights activist. The Trail Guide is based on her research.

LOUIS GOSSETT, JR. is an icon in the world of entertainment. He received an Academy Award for his performance as Gunnery Sgt. Emil Foley in An Officer and a Gentleman and an Emmy for his role asFiddler in Roots. His passion is his Eracism Foundation and his all-out effort to combat racism and promote racial harmony.
