Underway: NYC Subway Transit 2.37.0 Update
2024-04-15
This update moves the "refresh feed from server button" from the floating menu to the bottom of the station popover. The floating menu now has a map picker button, to quickly switch to other maps.

When switching to a new map, any open popovers are closed. And if auto-locate is enabled, then the app will try to locate you and open the popover of the station nearest you.

Again, we commissioned a new PATH map by calcagnomaps on Instagram. For now, it is still a new feature, "early access" granted to our Pro subscribers. Thank you so much for all your feedback on this new map!

2.32.0 2023-04-19
This update contains the March 2023 Late Night Service map published by the MTA, along with a few bug fixes.

Delancey-Essex station trains are flipped in direction category. We are now special-casing J and Z trains; instead of routes F, FX, and M as we handled previously.

Email link fix: address display formatting caused an error when sending mail using link provided inside the app. This is now fixed.

Pro subscribers can select Late Night Service map from Map menu item on the Settings screen.
2.31.0 2023-02-28
This update fixes a bug where Pro subscribers could not enable Auto-Locate. Sorry for the inconvenience.
2.30.0 2023-02-22
This update contains new features, and a new map for February as published by MTA.

New feature: Auto-Locate! When Auto-Locate is enabled, every time Map screen becomes visible, the app will attempt to open the Station Popover nearest to you automatically. Auto-Locate is available for Underway Pro subscribers only: toggle on Auto-Locate in Settings screen.

Each station now includes “In Service” escalators and elevators as reported by MTA, alongside those out-of-service which we already show in the app. On the Escalator & Elevator alert screen, tap the row labeled “Show in-service escalators and elevators” to expand and reveal category listing. View Escalator & Elevator alerts at the bottom of each Station screen (if station has escalators or elevators.)

PATH times are coming to Underway NYC!

This release adds PATH train arrival times to Manhattan PATH stations: 33rd St, 23rd St, 14th St, 9th St, Christopher St, and World Trade Center. Enable or disable PATH times to show up alongside MTA arrivals, in the Underway app on the Settings screen.

Please note: not all features are available for PATH trains, as its API is not as robust as that provided by MTA. We are not able to provide Train screens for PATH trains for example, in the app, because PATH does not publish train IDs, as MTA does for subway trains.

PATH is operated by Port Authority NY NJ, and is an acronym for Port Authority Trans-Hudson rail.

This update also contains the September 2022 map published by the MTA last week, and fixed a crash for Queensboro Plaza.

This update requires iOS 15 or later.
2.23.0 2022-09-17
Underway: now compatible with iOS 16.

In a future, upcoming release, Underway iOS will require iOS 15 or later. Please update to continue getting the latest updates. In this current release:

- Widgets have been removed from the app. Apple has deprecated existing widgets, so functionality cannot be restored and buttons no longer respond.

- This release adds a Subscribe Now page for when the Arrivals screen Filter button is tapped, if not subscribed to Pro in-app purchase. Previously, it looked like filtering was broken since the UI did not give visual feedback when not yet subscribed. Thank you to our Underway Pro subscribers for making this app possible, and supporting its ongoing maintenance

- Service alert icons on the Map Popover are no longer expressed using various iconography, for visual clarity.

- Diamond route badges (i.e. Express Train badges) are now properly sized and aligned, to make more proportional to other line badges.
2.22.0 2022-07-14
This update adds a new filter to the Station Arrivals screen, updated subway maps, and one more thing.

On station screens, you can now filter arriving trains by destination. This is particularly useful for A trains because they diverge in Queens. For example, if I'm at 42 St - Port Authority Bus Terminal, and going to Howard Beach JFK Airport, I can tap on the "filter" icon in the toolbar, and then tap "Select station", and then type in "JFK" and select "Howard Beach JFK Airport" in Queens. When I tap "Done", the station screen now shows only A trains stopping at Port Authority and also JFK, excluding C and E trains, excluding A trains going to Ozone Park. This new feature is included with Underway Pro.

This update contains the July 2022 subway maps published by the MTA.

And one more thing. Last stop indicators on the map's station popovers. If a train is not making any more stops, the train's arrival time is underlined with the route's color. This subtle change is particularly useful when the last stop is unexpected. For example, a few weekends ago, the 2 train's last stop towards Manhattan was at Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn.
2.21.0 2022-06-19
This update adds 2 new icons for service alerts, to help distinguish their severity at a glance. Medium severity is the familiar triangle with an exclamation mark. High severity is denoted by an upside down triangle with an exclamation mark. And low severity is marked by a softer circle with an exclamation mark. Please let us know if you all like it!

In addition, you can now long-press on the arrival times on the Train screen to see more details about that arrival, just like on the map popover and the Arrivals screens. These details include the absolute time, scheduled track, and the train IDs.

Also, the Grand Central Shuttle direction labels have been corrected.

2.9.2 2020-12-21
