Introducing the Continue button!

So many of you have requested the ability to resume a session. This will let you resume your previous session or view the recent sessions to choose which one. If you've paid, you will keep the past 20 sessions. It will be 5 for free users.

This does not currently sync between devices, but let me know if you want me to add that (shane@valuestudy.app or @valuestudyapp on IG)

The old Add to Photos has been replaced with Export. You can now use Export (in the tools menu) to save to Photos, use the Share Sheet, or print your value studies.

This new system will allow more export customisation in future. If there’s something you'd like added, let me know: shane@valuestudy.app

Also includes improved zoom-out behaviour (helpful for tracing) and a new Blink setting to make the selection highlight easier to see, especially when using a projector.

This update brings improvements to the zooming and panning, so it should feel more robust and not reset randomly. In Fullscreen mode it will now let you zoom much further out, for use with projectors.

This fixes the issue with image loading on some iPads. Many people were seeing blank screen or a single line of the image. I appreciate your patience while I figured out the cause!

Today I've got a bunch of behind-the-scenes improvements. This tidies the code up and hopefully will prevent crashes around image loading.

Today's update is a small one but lays groundwork for more to come! The collections page now is more well-suited to multiple collections rather than just the one currently shown. There's also now an Attribution tool in the tools menu that will show the credit and source of the image where possible.

New features!

1) Fullscreen mode. This has been heavily requested, find it in the tools menu. It will hide all UI until you exit the fullscreen mode.

2) Browse files. You can now browse your iPhone/iPad and iCloud directly from Value Study! On the right of Choose image you will see a ... menu. You can access the browse files from there. I've also moved the Take photo option to there.

I've also updated the Information page to support videos. Currently it just has the one I was previously linking to, I need to re-record that as the app has improved a lot since I made the video!

Those bug fixes just caused more bugs... apologies to anyone that got locked out of Value Study! Should all be fixed now.

Improving the offline mode with a few more bug fixes.

Here's another small update to the new Grid feature. As requested by Howard, we can now adjust the colour of the grid, from the Line appearance section of the Grid settings.

GRID MODE IN VALUE STUDY APP!!

This update brings one of the biggest feature requests Value Study has had since day one, Grids. In fact it was on my original wish-list of features when I started building the app! Every approach I took early on was too slow and clunky... but with all the performance and code improvements, it's now ready for launch.

I always say to send me feedback but this update is more important than others, it's a very large feature that will improve over time. So I need your help to ensure it is perfect for you all, please do email shane@valuestudy.app with feedback (reviews are always helpful too).

Just a small fix for the new toolbar on smaller screens.

This adds Portuguese, Polish and Dutch languages and improves how translations are handled generally.

This update improves performance for the collections and information pages.

Fixed a bug with HEIC/P3 images that caused all functionality to break! So sorry about that.

Okay so Value Study is becoming a powerful tool now isn't it... it's time for the Information page. This is a simple but critical page that will hopefully help people new to Value Study to know where to start, and give the rest of you a reminder of where everything is. It's time for a performance release! This is just lots of behind-the-scenes work to ensure Value Study runs faster and more smoothly than ever.

A highly requested feature has been to introduce colour into Value Study. This update is the first step, it introduces a Palette tool which will let you switch and add new (currently monotone-only) colour value scales.

I've also added a "send a tip" button in the settings. This is entirely optional, but of course very appreciated.

This update has a bunch of improvements for performance. It also has a bug fix for the highly-reported bug where it wasn't possible to save an image when using the outline mode... this turned out to be related to light/dark modes which has now been fixed!

This is a small update to make it easier for me to see when bugs/errors happen and to hopefully be quicker at fixing them!

This aims to fix a bug that some people were seeing where opening the app just gave them a blank screen.

Here's the big one, Value Study is no longer free. There's a very low cost yearly subscription or an affordable lifetime purchase available which includes all features.

I must say I am so humbled and grateful to all of you that use Value Study. When I put the message up saying this would happen, I didn't get one complaint but hundreds of positive messages of support. Honestly I am so thankful. I didn't want to just put up a page blocking usage (or giving a set time to trial it) so this update also introduces the concept of Collections. These are collections of images that the app will provide (requires internet) images that you can use. This first one is the App Preview collection which non-paying users will see by default. But I hope over time I can provide some useful collections of images for you to all use!

As announced in the previous version, this update introduces the subscription for Value Study Pro. You do not have to upgrade yet, it's still optional until July. But given people were confused why I mentioned the subscription, I've added it now so it's your choice whether to do the yearly subscription or pay a bit more for the lifetime upgrade.

Some bug fixes for Live Filter mode.

I've recieved some emails and reviews about the German language showing instead of English. I thought it was fixed, but some people are still having the issue. So in this update I've added a "Change language" button to the settings. You can also access this via iOS settings -> Value Study. On this page will be a "preferred language" which must be set to the appropriate one for you.

Prevents wrongly showing the german language when it should be english.

Firstly, I have been pleasantly overwhelmed with the positive feedback and support of Value Study Pro. Thank you all so much!

This update has a focus on accessibility and customisation:

- New languages! German, French, Spanish and Italian. This is exciting but daunting as it's so easy to make mistakes. Please let me know if you would like to assist with improving the translations for these languages or adding more.

- Added "Customise value scale" to the settings page so you can choose to flip the ordering of the values or to start at 0 instead of 1 for the numbering.

- Added an "Action label" to indicate what you've just clicked. This includes the panels you've opened or the actions you've taken, such as "Flipped image" or "Portrait mode on". If you don't want this to show, you can deactivate it in the settings.

- Many small bugfixes and laying the groundwork for further improvements.

This has been a long time coming. Value Study version 2.0 is full of subtle improvements based on feedback (which I am very thankful for!) through reviews and emails.

It is also exciting for me to announce Value Study Pro. This is an affordable paid upgrade to Value Study. All existing features will always be free, but if you upgrade to Pro, you will have extra convenience features and the ability to customise further the value studies produced.

Let's start with what's in Value Study Pro:

Value outlines
- You can now easily switch between seeing the values filled in or outlined like a drawing.
- If you select a value and enable outlines simultaneously... you will see the selected value filled in with all others outlined. This feature has been the most highly requested, so I'm excited for you all to try it out!

Customisable image stabilisation
- Everyone can turn image stabilisation on/off in settings. With Pro you can take it a step further and use a slider to tweak it further... this is particularly effective when the value outlines are enabled.

Portrait mode
- Remove the background from portraits so you can focus on the people in your image without the background affecting the values shown.

Gallery
- The new gallery tab lets you open multiple images at once. You can switch between them easily by swiping on the image (while zoomed out) too!
- This becomes incredibly useful when used for a series of images taken from different angles, such as a person turning around


Version 2.0 updates (all included in the free tier):

- Dark mode!
- A massive under-the-hood rework, enabling new features to be added.
- Show the value number under each value swatch (this can be toggled in the settings)
- Improved support for file formats: RAW, HEIC, WebP
- Ability to flip the image horizontally
- Doubled the maximum number of values

Version 2.0.2 fixes an issue where the settings menu flickers and could get stuck.

This version should fix the issues with v1.6 on iPad. I really appreciate the messages and reviews mentioning the problems, in a respectful and polite way. Apologies to all those affected!

- Improved the quality of the edges of values by ensuring less pixelation, with a new feature called Image Stabilisation.
On Live Filter mode this also means less flickering on the edges of objects.

- Added a settings menu.
Now that Value Study is beginning to have more features and improvements, the settings menu gives access to an advanced section which for now will mainly be used to help debug any issues.

- Big improvement for performance, making it much quicker to switch between selected values
- Selecting a value while the original photo is showing will now switch back to show the values

- Reworked zoom so it will now stay zoomed in until you zoom back out.
