About Voyager - DeepTime
Download Voyages and play them in the actual environment, by following the provided route to places where you will encounter challenges, relating to what that place was like and what lived there many millions of years ago.
The challenges involve answering task questions for which you obtain a score. The answers to the tasks are to be found both in what you find at the task sites and in the information provided by the app. This information is provided as reconstructions of what scientists think a place was like long ago, plus the life forms that may have existed there, the weather conditions and the ancient geography of the planet at the ti.
In addition to answering the tasks, you receive unpredictable virtual threats, that you have to answer against the clock or suffer a significant penalty. For your Voyage you have supplies of water, oxygen and fuel. Your virtual water and oxygen supplies will be steadily drained based on the rock you are traveling over and the climate and composition of the atmosphere at the time that rock was formed. Your fuel level is based on the battery level of your device. Your final Voyage score is based on many factors, including the level of your supplies when you complete the Voyage with and whether you have attempted to cheat in any way.
The app and its Voyages could be used in this educational game playing style, or be used to explore the geology of a Voyage area. Normally tasks can only be answered by actually being within the task zone (geofence), but it is possible to work out a code to unlock a Voyage so it may be undertaken anywhere - except you will never obtain a score as high as that for actually going to the places.
Each Voyage is supported by a map, with task sites and basic safety and amenity information, along with photos, diagrams, audio video and animation.
The app comes with one built-in 'demo' Voyage which is unlocked by default. Other Voyages, as they become available, can be downloaded over the cellular network or WiFi. You can always delete these Voyages when you are done with them. When using the app out on a Voyage you do not require cellular (phone) or WiFi connectivity. The app does require GPS to determine your location when doing a Voyage for real, but for no other purpose.
