上海纺织服饰博物馆坐落于环境优美的东华大学（原中国纺织大学）延安路校区，是目前国内唯一的全面综合反映中国纺织服饰历史、文化和科技知识的博物馆。博物馆以中国纺织服饰发展史和纺织服饰科普教育为主线，兼顾其他艺术门类的展陈与研究。综合纺织服饰科学普及、艺术传播、学术交流、学科教育、科学研究、社会服务的功能为一体。近年来，上海纺织服饰博物馆一直在宣扬和践行博物馆作为现代时尚生态体系中的看门人功能。其作为时尚产业链和时尚价值链中不可替代的环节，不是单纯的收藏、分析、展览，也不仅仅是简单地展示和宣扬文明，更加重要的是力求体现上海、中国乃至世界对于时尚的哲学思维，树立时尚的艺术与设计准则、技术和商业典范，建构社会和群体的审美范本。
