1983年に『キン肉マン』、1991年に『キン肉マンキン肉星王位争奪編』と2度にわたり、テレビアニメとして日本テレビ系列で放映された。アニメーション製作は東映動画（現東映アニメーション）が担当し、TVスペシャルも1回放映、劇場版も7作公開された。また登場キャラクターの超人たちなど一人ひとりにオリジナルのテーマソングが作られ、アニメにおけるいわゆる「キャラクターソング」の先駆者的存在となった。
