Kimiko Kawano, a scientist at Nippon Medical School who has analyzed the brain activity of anzan experts, says learning the skill hasten and improve brain development.
The concentration and imaging techniques needed for anzan — which exercises the right side of the brain rather than the analytic left, used for ordinary calculation — can be useful in non-mathematical situations, she added.
