About FlapCon
FlapCon is a soft-tissue Flap Constructor. It is a helper tool to learn about soft-tissue flap design intended to be used by surgeons and learners at any stage of training.
When a patient has a cancer removed or a trauma resulting in tissue loss, the resulting defect may be too large to suture closed directly. In order to close the defect, a surgeon might utilize a tissue flap, wherein the nearby tissues are rearranged to bring the ends of the defect closer together.
Although many tissue flaps are easy to understand, the geometry of certain flaps, such as a Rhomboid Flap, can be a bit counter-intuitive. FlapCon helps surgeons visualize and manipulate flaps to help position them and utilize them.
FlapCon was made by Dr. Nicholas Mahoney, an Oculofacial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon at Johns Hopkins University and the Wilmer Eye Institute.
