WHO IS JOAN?

Let’s start with the obvious, she’s our queen bee and one heck of a worker bee as well, which, to us, makes her the ultimate keeper.
As an elementary schoolteacher in Bethel, Ohio, Joan Troyer had long been magically linked with bees—she’d say it was an affinity, one part curiosity and one part awe. From sweaters to socks to clay pots and everything in between, the buzzers peppered her life, and accessories and trappings of the sweet pollinators became her family and friends’ go-to gifts for her. After retiring from teaching, it was one such serendipitous gift from the middle of her three children—Linda, Holly and Jeff—that sparked her new venture: an antique bee box. What Holly envisioned as a cute planter, actually stirred Joan into taking up the dwindling art of beekeeping, and the rest, as they say,
